No she meant another organization (see her original post). This thread is a total, utter waste of our time and energy, and it's not even a decent train wreck (although when badgeguy stepped in I thought it had potential but he's gone back under the rock apparently at least for the time being).

And I did mean Phi Nu. Founded at MacMurray College in 1853. The local is still going strong. :)

And for those who actually care about the original purpose of this thread, I also found the Willard Society which was founded at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1889 and that organization is still going strong. I'm not sure, however, if it is structured like a GLO. I think it may be.

Also I suspect that maybe women's fraternities were founded when women were allowed to enter into college. So perhaps many teacher's colleges had women's social organizations.

I suppose I have answered my own question. I don't know why some of you are just waiting to attack all the time. This site is pretty hostile a lot of times. The original question was misunderstood and people just went their way with it.

It's still later than Adelphean Society and according to the MacMurray website, they are a social Service organization. They may not function on the same level as a regular sorority. Their dues are $70. It's hard to judge what "going strong" means without a website to see what they actually do. I'm impressed by their longevity, but why start a whole thread about a group when you have so little information about them?

Look: if you're going to start a thread on a subject, and you get several polite posts that indicate that said thread is (fill in the blank), but attempt to politely comment on your (fill in the blank) topic, yet you persevere on said (fill in the blank) topic, posting more tangential "info", don't get all butt hurt when you get called on your isht and call the posters on the thread (or the site in general) "hostile" or whatever.

If you don't pick up on what people are politely setting down in front of you, early on, and you persevere, you're gonna get hit upside the head with Hank Aaron's bat. Just sayin'.

Yeah, I can read thanks. I never heard of Phi Nu. You could see how someone might think that even though she initially mentioned Phi Mu, listing Phi Nu might seem like she may have made a mistake. ;)

Truthfully, I agree with AZTheta. This seems like a useless thread that was started to get people all up in arms.

Not really, not when in context she's talking about locals as opposed to nationals. But if that's how you read it, despite that fact that she had already mentioned Phi Mu, perhaps you could have simply asked whether she made a typo or was referring to an org you're not familiar with, rather than assuming she made a typo and giving a mini-lecture on how Phi Mu isn't smaller or lesser known.

Sometimes it just seems like folks are looking for anything to attack. It's not that big a deal.

This thread seems to have been about the claims of the organizations within the article listed in the original posting.....I believe reading further down that it was others who began to "bicker" about the thread.

I highly doubt that anyone even bothered to click the link. It's very informative on women's organizations.

Before someone posts anything they should take the time to read all the info before making comments.

Just an thought. There is no need to create a hostile environment where non existed......
