I think this is funny because I was just talking to Sands about black folk and our history. We hear so much about members and there accoplishments but we never seem to have any proof. Most of the time it's all hear say. Research people Research!

Lionel Richie is an Alpha...he went to Tuskeegee University...

Ivy, I feel where you are coming from. But, I can only vouch for members of Phi Beta Sigma. Bro. George Washington Carver was a very active member of our fraternity during his time.

Re: Made up Famous members
I heard years ago that Quincy Jones was an Alpha. My dad's an Alpha, and almost guaranteed me that Quincy Jones wasn't one.
And, despite the fact that George "P-Funk" Clinton did the infamous "Atomic Dawg," he is NOT a Que--he's not honorary or anything of that sort. I even heard he was a Sigma---only because he does the hand sign----which in the '70's and '80's rock and funk eras means "ROCK ON!" Is Morris Chestnutt REALLY a Sigma?? I've heard mixed accounts...he's HOTTTTT regardless, though ;) One day, you all will see ChaosDST on a list of famous members. And you'll be like: I remember that chic from when she was just a lowly Greekchat member :) Quote:

Hey sisterfriend PrettyKitty!
Well, it's funny when we discuss "famous" members...because the definition of "famous" is interesting. I wouldn't discuss Rog from What's Happening in the same breath as I would discuss Black intellects such as W.E.B and Cornel West. That's just me, though. But, people always leave out: the Laura Winslow chic from Family Matters (DST), yelling Kim Whitley (from "Oh, Drama"----(DST) yeah, we gotta admit it), and the equally-as-loud comedian chic from Comic View, she's a Zeta (her loud mouth has nothing to do with her affiliation, of course)---I forget her name. Oberton from Living Single is a Que (I'm a reliable source---he also threw up the hooks in an episode). There are quite a few Black folks who we see on these shows and so forth that are Greeks. But, I wouldn't go so far as to put them on my "famous" list. Just thinking aloud :) Quote:

That brings up another question Deuce, what consitutes someone being labeled as "Famous" i.e. what qualities must they have...

Chaos, the answer your question about Morris Chestnut is no.royal blue

Really? Well, I wonder how that rumor got started years ago, then...thanks. He's still HOOOOOTTTT though :)

When I found out that Blair Underwood was a Sigma, I was like, how the heck did that happen. He went to a school that pledged at my yard and I never saw him once. Who told you that John Hinton (Overton) was a Que? That is news to me if its true. |
Famous Members
Quote:
IMO, the only members in our respective orgs who are worthy of being labeled as "famous" would be the founders of each org. These pioneering men and women laid the foundation for each of our orgs. As college students in a time when being BLACK was not easy, these men and women struggled for what we have today -- not just our orgs, but a lot of the rights and privileges that we take for granted. XX amount of years ago, our founders had visions for sisterhood and brotherhood, scholarship, service, and the upliftment of our people and our communities. Anyone else might have notoriety in another field, but those founding fathers and mothers of the Divine Nine orgs laid foundations in our orgs as well as the Black community. |
LOL@from a Zeta. I don't think so, maybe Morris Chestnutt WANTED to be a Sigma or something.
Anwhooooo, I always heard from bruhs that John Hinton was a bruh and when he threw up the hooks on an episode one day, that was proof (to me). The actor who played the janitor boss on "Set It Off" is also a bruh...you can see the hit on his chest in the scene where he's caught in the hotel room with the money. He guest starred on Living Single once, too...it may've been the episode when Overton threw up the hooks. Quote:

Curious
Quote:
But I'm curious. I've been laughing as I read some of the post. Why would someone be "shocked" that a certain individual who is deemed as being famous pledged a certain frat or sorority? ALL our organizations have great foundations and should be held w/ the upmost respect! Does someone think a certain organization is not "good enough" to hold these members of prestige and influence? Not trying to cause an arguement, just curious. :) Please respond. I'm interested in an answer. :) Peace and Blessings. :) Rhapsody 1922 Fall 1997 #3 Blue and Gold Rules EVERYTHING Around Me! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-YIP!!!!!!!!! |
