FYI.....Linda White and others were at the King Day services at Ebenezer Baptist Church this morning. Christine King Farris gave her and the other ladies a "shout out" for their assistance to the King Family in 1972. Does anyone know if Dr. Farris is an AKA? She drew out the name like only a lady of AKA could! LOL

Yes, our National Founder's Day weekend was in the ATL. During the weekend, Sorors were to participate in the MLK services as well.

Dr. Farris, I am not sure is she is a soror. I'm sure it won't be hard to find out that information. :D

(The others came too late!)

Too cute and funny!

Since I've not been to a chapter meeting in a few months (classes on Saturdays) I'm not sure what my chapter is doing, but I may go to our celebration here locally. There hasn't been much discussed about it, or maybe I've been so deep in students I haven't heard.

I'm supposed to do service with Sigma Omega chapter here in Cincinnati. *note to self* I need to call Soror WenD08...

unspokenone25 01-06-2006 07:40 PM

I will find out next week what our chapter is doing at our monthly chapter meeting. Will update soon...

GCers, how will you spend your MLK Day Off, if you have the day off?
Last year I volunteered to help clean up & paint @ a local children's hospital with the chapter I have an interest in... This year, I will call a memberfriend to see if I can volunteer again... If not, I will help out with my church's MLK Jr. Day program.

I'll be in Jackson, MS

I'll be in Jackson, MS, for our NFD Celebration the weekend prior to the MLK holiday. On that actual day, I'll be back in Monroe with my chapter doing various community service activities on and off campus (I'm not sure exactly what and where just yet). :)

Steeltrap 01-07-2006 01:38 AM

I am not sure what I will be doing just yet. I may be off and do service w/my chapter, or I may do service with one of the L.A. chapters, as I did last year.:)

Just now on the Steve Harvey Morning Show, Kevin Powell was on stating that there is a site http://www.mlkday.org/ that shows service project activities going on in various cities.

Kevin's group will be working with Hurricane Katrina victims in his city.

Bernice King will be speaking at FSU tomorrow as a part of our MLK celebration so I will be attending tomorow. If you are in Tallahassee, she will be speaking at 11pm in Ruby Diamond Auditorium on the campus of Florida State University. These events usually fill up quick even though the auditorium can seat a few thousand.

She spoke at Lander a few years ago and she was very good! I even got a chance to meet her and she autographed one of her books!

For me, I'll probaby volunteer at the hospital.:) I'm used to doing some community service on MLK Day.
