The whole thing to me still screams fake. The hacking of the website, the Julia vs Rebecca name discrepancy, etc. I know DG will handle this with grace and efficiency, whether it be true or false. If it is true, then I regret my earlier laughter, despite agreeing with her basic thesis of participation.

It's not a "discrepancy." Gawker said from the jump that it was using a fake name.

I really don't think the website was hacked. Their HQ, the greek life page, etc do not list a website for the chapter. I think someone simply created the site yesterday, and it pops up at the top of all searches because there isn't a real one to compete with.

I viewed the same website yesterday after reading the story, and it did not have all the garbage it has now. It appeared to me to be legitimate when I first saw it. Now, not so much.

I think it's definitely real. The girl who wrote the email deleted her Facebook, and people I know who go to Maryland know who she is...

Whoever leaked the email could probably be brought up to Standards or whatever they have for un-sisterly conduct.

There are mechanisms to deal with it like Standards.

What you never do is air your dirty laundry (unless it's something your'e required to do by HQ rules, the law, etc.)

Honestly yes. Just because there is a strongly worded letter like Kevin said you don't know what is acceptable for their culture. I can see this being an acceptable form of critique for a group of college aged girls. Sometimes you need to yell and scream at people to get them to do things. This was strongly worded indeed, but I'm sure it got the message across and ended whatever issues there were. The person who leaked it however ruined this girls life (more so that is was). Ruining someones life is quite a bid deal IMO.

The "culture" of their chapter? Really? It is NEVER acceptable for anyone to talk to another human being this way. NEVER. I'm not too worried about this vapid and shallow little girl's life being ruined. Something tells me she will be fine after this period of humiliation dies down and will go on being her obnoxious and important self.

No one should air dirty laundry, but it is highly unlikely that anyone from the chapter forwarded this email to the press.
