Only difference, is I don't like Michael Jackson, I like Cool J and I am not a pedophile...

But seriously though: A poor interest makes for a poor soror, does it not? We can agree to disagree...

"Horrors of Hazing"

An investigative report by Al Roker is on Court TV now (began at 10:00 Eastern). It will be on again at 2:00 am and 4:00 am (Eastern). Not sure if this will cover any Af-Am or MCGLO's.

My husband and I watched that last NIGHT!!!

Personally, I think all the BGLO's that have published lists on their websites are WAAAAAYYYY ahead of the game...

But based on how various Universities see it, altogether eliminating all greek organizations--mainly "houses" from the university--it not the complete answer... I think some houses need more adult (alumni) involvement to exist and that CAN be enforced by the university... Most NPC and IFC organizations do not have that built in, although not difficult for them to do, it sounds to me that alot of these "kids" are not getting positive guidance from trained and responsible adults...

And most NPHC organizations do have that automatically built into them, historically...

However, if PWI all out ban greeks from their schools, that would kill NPHC organizations on their campuses where have some level of ethnic cohesion is necessary. I think that a university and the national headquarters need to work together to find an amicable solution rather than indiscriminantly ban all greek organizations...

Where will the "leaders" of tomorrow come from? The university inherently does not provide that kind of training... However, I think they can influence it, but inherently, they have legal issues that cannot be overcomed if they all out blow greeks off campus.

I'm glad that they made this information available, to serve notice to those who are perpetuators of hazing!

Diva_56 03-07-2005 05:57 PM

First of all... just want to mention that not every one who is on that suspended list is on there because of HAZING!!! Alpha Kappa Alpha gives out suspensions based on many infractions in our constitution and bylaws. With all the anti-hazing hooplah it is easy to forget that there are a lot of politics involved in some of these. Now some of these sorors have indeed been suspended for hazing and other SERIOUS infractions as well.

Just a consideration.

*And there we have our unsolicited PSA for the day.* :D

LMAO @ the soror schooling people. Go on, girl! :D

I hope ya'll don't mind me squeezing in the convo. :D

I agree. I think that all of our organizations should have published lists. It's sad that it has to come to that but we have to protect our butts. However, I wonder how do you answer critics who think it's inappropriate for non-members to have access to membership status of members?

AKA2D '91 03-07-2005 06:53 PM

Who are the critics?
If they are not members of my organization: who cares? they aren't doing anything to support the organization if and when something happens. They are the main ones being critical of the organization...

If they are members of my organization: we'd have to discuss that privately. :D

Personally, I think they are the ones who need to know. Well, interests.

TheEpitome1920 03-07-2005 07:11 PM

I've brought it up with members of my sorority and other organizations and the response is very interesting and diverse. If people are worried about their business being put out there they shouldn't do anything that would lead to them being put on the list.;)

AKA2D '91 03-07-2005 07:17 PM

LOL
*$&*^ happens*

Most times, the ones discussing it are NOT on the list. LOL

Lady of Pearl 03-07-2005 07:59 PM

I am well aware of the infractions and penalties of my sorority, Chapter supspensions, individual suspensions and expulsions in what I have observed have been due to those who have been caught hazing. It is a sad day in Greekdom for any BGLO to have to resort to published lists such as this. I agree that their should be public knowledge to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak- of those undesirable members of our sorority and to make the public aware of those who pretend to be our members and in fact are not! .:eek:
