How in the world could I have forgotten the ORIGINAL KIND OF R AND B, "rolling blunts, that is" BOBBY BROWN? :p

LMAO

also, Wendy R. Robinson from The Stever Harvey Show and that dude that played Jada's hubby in Kingdom Come.

What about you all? I'm kind of sick of seeing Tamala Jones. She kind of works on my nerves.

Ideal08 08-27-2001 09:55 PM

I'm gonna go see it. It looks pretty good.

Hi Ladies,

I've been very busy at work and have not had time to post a great deal. I've missed yall.

I plan to see the movie but when are our folks going to get some real roles. It bothers me that Vivica and Halle still have to play in these type of films. I want to see some serious acting.

Can we get some more African American actors in Hollywood?

Dang,
I will go and support this movie, as I have all of the other African American movies that have been released. I must say though I am tired of seeing the SAME people in every movie.

For example, let's just review these movies....

The Best Man Morris Chesnut, Nia Long Tay Diggs, Sanaa Lathan

The Wood
Tay Diggs, Tamala Jones, Sanaa Lathan

Love & Basketball
Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan

The Brothers
Morris Chesnut, Tamala Jones, Gabrielle Union

2 Can Play the Game
Morris Chesnut, Gabrielle Union, Tamala Jones

I know that there are more than 6 or 7 Talented African American actors in Hollywood!

Professor and "serious acting"

A couple of posts ago, Professor made a point about "serious acting."

IMO, I think one reason why you see films like 2 Can Play That Game this is because there's a perception -- perception, mind you -- out there that African-American films with mature, serious themes don't make enough caiche.' Money still talks.

Years ago, I recall a film critic's article about "To Sleep With Anger," which starred Danny Glover. The writer specifically cited that as a serious, classy movie that had trouble finding an audience.

Also, a lot of moviegoers are still teenagers or in their very early 20s and may want comedies or heavy-duty urban entertainment.

It speaks to the need to get more African-Americans in writing, directing, development and other "control" positions in the entertainment industry.

I'm There

There are a lack of Black Actors in Roles in hollywood. There are Black Actors and Actresses they just do not seem to land roles and then as a Black actor and actress you are still type cast. All that being said I am at that movie.

I hear ya!!

Just like Lawrence (formerly Larry) Fishburne (moved on up to the Eastside with the Jeffersons), Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, Eddie Murphy (his own productions) Pamela Grier, (was also known as Pam) Samuel L. Jackson (formerly Sam - He moved too - has a nice house!!) Halle Barry, Danny Glover, and Oprah!!!

But thanks to people like Sidney Poitner and Dorothy Dandridge, Halle McDaniel, Butterfly McQueen who helped open doors to stardom.

We may not be where we wanna be - but at least we're not where we use to be!!

I saw Hannibal on DVD. Nasssssssty! That movie had me screamig and squelching at 2 am! Especially the ending. It's good, but I'm glad I waited until it came out on DVD. The DVD has an alternate ending.

I saw it last night at the $1.50 theater. It was a cute movie with an important message. I really enjoyed it.

I saw it last night. It was NOT scary at all. The kids were cute, and most people in the audience laughed most of the time. I felt cheated! I expected so much more.

Maybe it was the crowd I was watching it with. So many people were laughing that it didn't feel like a horror film at all.

What was the last good movie you saw?

I tried to search for this, and I KNOW we had a thread similar to this, but I'm wondering if it got lost when we switched over to the new GC. Anyway, let's use this thread to talk about movies...

What are some movies that you've either rented or seen lately that you would DEFINITELY recommend?

Last night, me and my honey rented "Memento," and it was REALLY good!!! I want to own it on DVD!! I love suspense thrillers, and this was a good one. I just wanted to tell yall about it. It's about this guy who is searching for his wife's murderer, but the thing is, he has NO SHORT TERM MEMORY!!! So he can't remember people he meets, or conversations, or anything. It's really good. I recommend it! Two pinkies up!!

Anne Rice's Feast of All Saints, but unfortunately, this won't be on in the month of December at all. :( I wanted to watch it again.

Just a reminder, Angela Bassett's movie, Ruby's Bucket of Blood, is coming on again tonight, SHO2 @ 9pm. I caught the beginning of it on Saturday, and it seemed pretty good. The little girl from Eve's Bayou is in it, and she has grown so much! I guess it has been 4 years.

Ideal08,
I just saw "behind enemy lines" this weekend and it was a great movie. I was burnt out on army flicks after seeing Saving Private Ryan, but this movie was incredible. The plot was well set up, the dialog between characters flowed, and the general concept surrounding the movie was original. . . throughout the movie and at the end, everyone in the theatre was clapping (if that is any indication of it's success:) ) I would recommend it to anyone.

I saw Harry Potter this weekend and it was GREAT!
For those of you that saw it, did you notice any thing interesting about Harry's birthday cake? It was the most beautiful cake I've ever seen in a movie ;)
