Here's the best promotional video about Wazzu, EVER. It is from 1981 or so and the fashion is killer. Spirit squad women in gogo boots, men's gymnastics with suspenders, frat daddies in shorts that make Magnum PI look modest, horseback riding across campus, and the most amazing song ever about Old Wazzu.

Trust this comes from a place of love, as I'm the unfortunate offspring of a Duck and a Beaver, hence attempting to attend Cal and hating it, then going completely out there and eventually ending up in Idaho. The Oregon Duck I grew up with was the old style Donald coming through the O and the colors were stable and not up to interpretation. He had a bow tie, a dish hat, and the current mascot costume creeps me out with soulless eyes and a swishy neck tie scarf thing. The current OSU beaver looks kind of rabid, but I have a soft spot for the Benny and Bernice Beaver couple from my childhood. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/8...ns-of-all-time http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/201...ms-lsu-tigers/ |

Well, we are known as an offensive team so having "offensive" uniforms kind of fits doesn't it? JK - bad joke. :o I think offensive is a strong term I'd probably save for t-shirts like the ones mentioned in the "I'm too pretty for homework" thread but...for the record, I don't LOVE all the uniforms. I do like combinations 4,6, and 7 in the Bleacherreport. I HATED 9 (always did), and I'm not a fan of neon anything. I don't mind the black additions however (even though it gets OSU all riled up). I'm a little undecided on the grey - I've liked it at times - depending on the combo. And the wings don't bother me one way or another. Take 'em or leave 'em. I'm not much of a traditionalist - I don't think you could attend U of O happily and be one - so if it the players like them, recruits love them, and others talk about them and then start immitating-I'm cool with it. I started at U of O in 1981 (sadly - the year that WSU video was made, so now I feel REALLY OLD), when it was the old duck. I had moved to Oregon from out of state (Colorado), and to be honest, I thought that duck was the most ridiculous thing I had ever seen - along with the beaver. I wondered what wack jobs had come up with those two mascots, so I was more than happy to see the duck change a little (robo duck went too far however- that was just all kinds of messed up). I do get that some people have a sentimental attachment to various things - I'm just not much of a sentimentalist which is probably fortunate for an Oregon fan. Thanks for the WSU video. Daughter is down in Eugene this weekend to watch the game with friends - I'll have to show it to her when she gets back. She'll love it! I, on the other hand, remember every one of those fashion trends quite fondly (well, mayber not guys in short/shorts - that was a little disgusting), BUT I'll admit, I kind of miss go-go boots. |

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, Bellevue owned another California team tonight. I think that's the 4th Calif. school we've beaten. I'm thinking Calif. is seriously overrated. |

Well its not really me that dislikes them so much - more my kids. I'm sure the school is fine - it had to do with a state football playoff a few years back and a couple of state gymnastics meets in a row.
Congrats to Bellevue though - way to put it to the Californians. Always good to remind them they don't own the Pacific Coast (as they sometimes seem to think).;) Personally, I DO NOT want Texas (as is probably clear from my previous posts). Actually I really don't want Oklahoma either because they have whiny fans - but I can live with them. Nonetheless, I can see it going that way. I'm sure it would be depressing for Colorado - who thought they shook all these teams. |

This whole conversation reminds me of this (completely non-PC) look at last year's Big 12 negotiations. Please note that while I think a bunch of it is horrible, I do think quite a bit of it is funny... :)

As far as having several equals in the conference - I don't think Texas will ever think they have any equals. That would be against their religion or something. :) Objectively, whether or not they have several equals probably depends on the definition of equals - academics, national recognition, football history, revenue, tv viewership, etc? I wouldn't be too quick to discount OSU (although having two OSU's could get confusing). Granted, I think in terms of bringing in tv revenue you're right - they don't bring much to the table, but they have a good football program and they also have a major booster who donates a TON of money to that school, so they have great facitilities. Not that this does the rest of us any good, and I can't say I'd want to go to an away game there. |
