I'm in love with everything Theta.

But I do have an AGD friend who is not in love with their symbol being a squirrel :p

Nor is the turtle my favorite animal.
Roses and diamonds are my favorite though.

I think it's kind of fun to talk about. Doesn't affect my love for my org anyway.

 You don't like Pink and Green together? Don't let Lilly Pulitzer hear you say that :p Heck it's all the rage right now. If I didn't love it for DZ, I'd love it for all the awesome preppy stuff that is out. I have to be careful though cause our place has an asian influenced design so there is lots of red/brown/earth tones.

I do like the Turtle, but it's hard to find ones that I like. A lot of stuff is very kid looking or cutsy. I have found some though that I like.

Now on the subject of school colors, I'm pretty picky too. Ole Miss is red/blue. It can be on white, grey or black but NOOOOOO green, purple, pink, etc! I'm not even that big of a fan of brown. We're lucky so I don't know why people wouldn't just want red/blue!!! Heck it's not like we're LSU :D

I was about to be all  because I thought you meant the stuff Pink brand Victoria's Secret stuff. Some of it is obnoxious (for example, the shirt that says "Meet me in the dugout" or the panties that says "Designated Kisser"...double ), but I have this one, which I think is cute and non obnoxiously VS at the same time.

But then I realized that you meant sports stuff that is actually pink. I agree with you, I hate that as well!

ETA: This reminds me of when we got hoodies as a chapter. It was during our first semester as a colony and we all wanted hoodies. The sweatshirts ended up being light grey with navy letters and gold borders. Since our colors are double blue (light and dark) and gold, it was perfect. I personally like them; it was nice to have something in our colors. But no... THERE WAS SO. MUCH. WHINING. "They look like boys' sweatshirts!!!" "Why couldn't we get polka dots?" "I'm not even gonna wear this!!" Triple .

Group clothing orders was my absolute least favorite thing of being in a sorority, lol

nittanygirl 06-19-2011 08:51 PM

Purple is actually one of my favorite colors. I love it in anything except for me wearing it.
I avoid the color altogether unless it's for a sorority shirt or in a deep jewel tone. It looks bad on me, unfortunately.

I really love the sailboat symbol. It suits me perfectly. I'm really dying to get a necklace, but I gotta find one I really like first.
I wasn't keen on skull and crossbones. Now, I like them if they're done in a respectful way, not on a tweener wanna be punk tshirt.

There are other sororities that I love their colors/symbols:
Theta I love black & gold and I like the kite.
Kappa, everyone is jealous of the fleur de lis and key. Their badge is great.

DG has my very favorite symbol and colors though by far of another NPC org. I'm jealous of bronze, pink and blue & the anchor symbol.

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-19-2011 08:52 PM

As a Buckeye...I can say that the blue and gold of TriDelta are way too close to a certain other team's colors...needless to say I do not wear gold and blue (or yellow and blue) together often if at all.

A few years ago, i went to the wedding of a sister whose wedding colors were lavender and maroon. Her husband is a Pike so he had to have to maroon part. It actually turned out really pretty. The women wore lavender bridesmaids dresses and their flowers were a beautiful mix of purples, wines, and maroons. The groomsmen wore dark maroon tapestry print vests. It all came together nicely.

I love the green and white. Green is my favorite color and... well white is white. Super easy.

I tend to ignore the nautilus even though I feel like that is a "bigger" (is that even the right term?) symbol. So I pay for more to the dagger, however, trying to find accessories, or anything really, with either of those symbols tends to be rather difficult. I rarely find anything outside of the Kappa Delta website/boutique. My boyfriend found a dagger necklace for Christmas and I was beyond amazed.

While I love the symbolism behind each one, I do get tired sometimes of the search. especially when I see owls, keys, arrows etc everywhere.

On a different note, I do refuse to wear keys (or whatever, that is just the in thing over here) because it is a symbol for another sorority. I automatically think of Kappa when I see it. Is that weird?

Smile_Awhile 06-19-2011 10:00 PM

I don't wear red and green together very often (unless it's on AXO stuff). If I see it in decor, I squeal a little bit inside (or not).

I adore the lyre and pearls, and I do wear pearls on a consistent basis. I just wish you could find more lyre stuff! You often have to resort to harps, and then they have the wrong number of strings, and that's just wrong. So if I find a great lyre, I think about snatching it up (but often don't because I'm a student on a budget).

The only colors I have a problem with are my college's colors

High School: Red/White
Drum Corps: Black/Red/White
Fraternity: Red/Buff
College: Maroon/White

And it was red in the 70s!

In all honesty, I have to agree with you on that one. I find myself not wearing anything with a key, squirrel (though it is such a cute animal), anchor, etc. because I don't want anyone to wrongly associate me with another sorority--not because I don't care for those other GLOs but, I almost feel like if I am accidentally representing another sorority, I am somewhat being disrespectful to my GLO. Does that make sense?

I have to say, though-I think lavender and maroon is BEAUTIFUL and I love the color combination. I also really like pink and green. If you asked me, I could find something I LOVE about every GLO.

We're really going to drag this out like this?

The thread was moving along nicely.

I remember kind of being turned off by our colors and symbols during my COB open house, actually, although thankfully, I didn't let such superficial thing keep me away from what turned out to be a truly wonderful sisterhood.

Anyone else feel the same way?

No, not at all. I'm seven years old in my sorority and I still lose my senses when I catch a glimpse of our colors/symbols.

DubaiSis 06-20-2011 02:49 AM

Thankfully I love our colors and the golden quill. I've always been a blue fan, and it goes so well with yellow/gold that it is an easy choice. My kitchen has always been decorated blue and yellow, although nobody would make the personal connection. I just wish they'd bring back Al Fuzzy! I just don't think we need to be THAT feminist that we can't have a male mascot. Besides, are teddy bears actually gendered?

PrettyBoy 06-20-2011 05:31 AM

The only thing that comes to mind that I don't like is when I see Nupes (usually neos) wearing Playboy bunnies on their jackets. It's been banned, plus it never had anything to do with our fraternity. And what kind of man is proud to be a playboy/player?

Other than that, I love everything about our colors and symbols because of what they represent, and they also can be worn with a lot of other clothing. It just gives off such a "preppy" look. I especially like wearing an IU cap with regular casual wear. This is just me, but I think our colors, symbols, and letters stand out from the rest of the NPHC fraternities, especially when it's done in our traditional Krimson and Kream. Kappa Alpha Psi is a beautiful thing.:D:cool:

ETA: Hell, if I wasn't a Nupe, I'd hate us, too. LOL
