Here's an idea.

Take the money you would have spent at Borders and donate it to your local library. This way they can purchase more books for everyone to read, not just you, and it's a lot more green than buying a book that once you finish reading it, you'll never pick it up again (until you go to sell it for a fraction of what you paid to a secondhand store).

Yeah maybe you don't get a book the second it comes out, but if it's good and worth the wait, who cares?

I usually do reread the books that I buy and more often than not I save them for my classroom library! I fully support the library but I need to have my own classroom library as well.

The Borders near my house is closing, too.:(

Was told today that the Borders that's in my closest mall is closing :-(

They will all be closing under this upcoming deal.

Use giftcards now. Once bankruptcy hits odds of them being accepted drop fast to 0

I used mine already. Bought some new books for my baby so I can read to her when she's born.

So sad the Borders near me is closing. It's less than 4 miles from my house & near my grocery store & the salon where I get my pedicures done.

I am so upset- I have about $150 in gift cards that I CAN'T FIND. The one by me is closing this weekend. Not a happy camper at all.

@IL- back to that mall being a dump... I wonder what will go in that spot... it was the best store in there!

We never had a Borders here, but the Walden Books closed in the mall months ago, and a new store is already in its space. I was not sad to see Walden shut down. The store was always kept about ten degrees warmer than the rest of the mall & they rarely had what I was looking for. I've rarely had a good shopping experience in a Walden Books.

We still have two large bookstores open--Joseph Beth & Barnes & Noble, plus a couple of Christian bookstores and several very good used book stores.

I really dont shop for actual books that much anymore as I have a Kindle now. In an attempt to further eliminate clutter from my house and make dusting easier, I get what I can on my Kindle and can get what I purchase in about 30 seconds.

+a million on the Kindle. I've had one since they first came out and have already filled it up. I've been erasing books to put more on for a couple of months now. That being said, it really sucks that my dad's best friend has given me gift certificates to Borders for the past year or so, and I've just not gotten around to spending them. I really hate to waste money like that.

I buy books when I want to read them, but know I can't do it in 2 weeks. I do donate a ton of books straight to the libraries though. I sent a whole case of Jodi Picoult hard covers to one of the local high school libraries in an inner city school.
