Thanks to those of you who QFP'ed. And to k_s, when you hit 10K, there will be fireworks upon your admission to the secret clubhouse, from what I've been told. That's how you'll know.

My head is a little dizzy from all the spin and backpedaling by one poster that went on while I was out and about.

To MysticCat: "This one is just too easy -- it's like the Free Space in Bingo." That's #2 for the day. Impressive!

Even though I am enjoying the Crazy Chase going on with the Man with Two Names, AlphaFrog's comment points out why I and a lot of the guys here, really enjoy the Sorority Recruitment stories. They are just so 'beyond our ken', that they facinate us, while our own stories are so boring in comparison. I was Rush Chair 3 times and the first thing that I did was to organize as many Sorority women as possible to show up. It was a very important part of our Rush. During Last Homecoming, a pledge brother was driving me around town and mentioned that his daughter was an Alpha Chi in one of those desert states and she told him how absolutely complicated Sorority Recruitment was, and I never would have believed him, except for what I have learned here.

For most of the year, and for many years after, sororities and fraternities live in our same special world, but during Rush/Recruitment, it's like Mars and Venus.

The crazy with two names (and no period at the end of many sentences, dead giveaway, idjit) had no staying power. k_s dispatched it handily with one hand tied behind his back, blindfolded to boot. I was awake and watched it flail all over several threads to no avail. No trainwrecks until after the holidays, I predict. *yawn* I think it's time to go read a cookbook and get motivated.

Goes to show how different campuses are. At my school, sorority women were not allowed to participate in fraternity recruitment in any way. The big concern was it would seem sorority XYZ was endorsing joining fraternity ABC over fraternities DEF and GHI.

Hi, I'm planning on rushing my freshman year of college at East Carolina University. Are the rushes like those of the movies and T.V. shows? My family, besides my mom says that the rushes are basically the same in the movie and I should not rush, they are mostly anti- frat. My mom is th only one supporting me in this encouraging me to rush.

Are any of those people members of fraternities or sororities?

No. My mom wasn't but she said frat guys and jocks were the only people she dated.
Edit: Just so I don't get killed, that's a direct quote form my mom. I do not call fraternities, frats.

I see. Non-Greeks aren't the best sources for fraternity and sorority information.

Browse the forums and speak with people you know in real life. You'll be able to determine if Greek life is for you by doing that.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I'll pop by now and then to ask questions and browse the forums for some other answers. I understand it'll be hard to get a bid in a fraternity, but it's better to try and fail then it is to have never tried at all.

Also NCguy, every school is different and even every chapter at a particular school. So you need to keep that in mind as you read the forums.

Thanks for the advise. Can freshman usually rush in fall or is it only allowed for them in spring? My football coach told me he cold only rush in spring to one fraternity at his college, he said he didn't know what it is like now and ask around for a better answer.

gotta ask people who go to your school, it really differs
