okay I am just a little excited; it was the clue of Omega Chapter paired with "with love and careful thought" that rang the bell. And the description of the actual physical chapter, which is stunning. As a little girl, and a teenager, driving to Berkeley to pick my dad up at his workplace, I'd drive down Bancroft and I fell in love with UCBerkeley. So, of course, I went to UCSantaBarbara.

This is the only recruitment story I've read where I was a little familiar with the chapters. I only know one other house for sure based on your description of the outside of it. :p

Another piece of trivia - the KKG house at UCBerkeley was also designed by Julia Morgan. Sadly, the original Omega chapter house was razed to rebuild on the site. But - I believe the Kappa building is still standing.

I should have studied architecture but I don't do math at all... just appreciate design.
