Thank you, AGDee.....good to know. I honestly think I am more anxious about her recruitment than I was about my own!!! :)

Listing 2 of 3 chapters on an MRABA is still considered suiciding in that you are ineligible to be a quota addition if you do not match with either chapter (for schools that guarantee a bid to PNMs who list all of their preference chapters). However, listing 2 of 3 is better than listing 1 of 3 because the PNM has two possibilities to match with instead of just one.

vol mom and Ladybug84 I am pulling for your girls. I can't begin to imagine the stress you feel right now, but wish your girls a happy ending.

I sure hope somebody explained to my daughter about listing 2 rather than 3 choices and what it could do to her chances. I'm sure her gamma chi did, but that doesn't mean my daughter heard it and heeded her advice. She also said that when they were turning their bid sheets in, the line was slower than usual b/c they were going over what it meant to turn them in. So, yes, surely she knew.

This morning is going awfully slow...

Hey y'all, quota is 35+4 upperclassmen :)

AoPiMommy 08-22-2010 10:07 AM

WOW, that seems awfully low considering how many PNMs there were, doesn't it? I find the formulas way too complicated to understand --- it IS like rocket science. Hehe

AnchorAlumna 08-22-2010 10:18 AM

It is indeed quite low, especially for Tennessee. There may have been higher-than-normal dropouts.
Sounds like Panhellenic needs to do a better job "selling" sororities and recruitment.

You can never make them listen ;)

I would think the economy is a factor in the lower number of pnms.

But then my daughter said UofSC is actually at an all time high. Over 1100.

AnchorAlumna 08-22-2010 10:50 AM

Yes, many universities are reported record-breaking recruitment numbers. However...many of Alabama's new members are from Tennessee (and Texas, and California).

These UT pnm's had to wait allll day and then only got half of their invite list! (Philanthropy and Skits were divided over two days). Again, just my opinion.

I concur with this assessment. There is already a ton of stress and anxiety associated with the first week of school, being away from home (in some cases), etc. Ah, well. Patience is a virtue, I suppose :)

Just heard from my chapter. Bid lists are in hand.

I think some campuses are really doing well with RFM and some are really struggling. Maybe this is what happened here. A lot of girls got cut from "everyone's favorites" so they just dropped instead of considering the chapters they had left. At Iowa last year 50% of the girls dropped out! Quota ended up an astonishingly low 23 when it should have been in the range of 35 or 40. At Iowa they instituted some big changes. We'll see if it works. Then I guess UT can decide if they need to do the same thing. If you could just tell the girls ... (blah blah blah, we've all discussed it a million times here).

A boy from our parish is rushing Pi Kappa Phi at UTK. Fraternity rush is sooo different from when I was in school, when it was basically open parties. We're meeting his parents for drinks this evening so we'll see how it's going.

Just talked to my daughter...said she's heading over in about 10 minutes to the panhellenic building. I didn't know what to say to her other than I love her and to let me know when she finds out. I got up early for church this morning and was able to snooze for about an hour - and that's been the most peaceful hour of the day thus far. Seeing that quota is as low as it is doesn't help.
