Is it just me or have there been a lot of high school students coming out of the woodwork lately? Especially those interested in joining/are currently members of NPHC auxiliary groups?

Did someone post the GC link on a high school message board or something?

I was a mademoiselle in high school. Some kids in need something productive to do with their time, I think the groups can be very positive, and if you have a good sponsor like I did, who just so happened to be a Delta from Tuskegee, you learn that its not just about stepping. It was about building relationships, growing into adulthood, being responsible, helping in your communities, etc. Hell, I said I wasnt even going to college before I became a part of that group.. but my sponsor was so positive.. and such a beautiful woman in my opinion, I wanted to be "like her"..
I ran into her at convention in Vegas and literally started crying because I was so happy to see her and to show her who had become because of her... In saying all that, sometimes, its about so much more than just wanting to imitate a GLO!

This is why I was humored by that KL guy. The timing is just too much. Especially for those high schoolers who fit why some of us dislike the idea of those organizations.

And you know...thats what its all about...for teenagers who needs something productive to do...We need mentors to help us teenagers become more responsible and help us learn the significance of helping our communities. Yeah, we have parents and all...but in my case---My father died and I really didn't have an older male role model. So even though I did well in school and had manners, I really never had a big networking and support system, and that's where Kappa League came in. It's now at the point where I can talk to my advisors about the problems without me feeling so weird or embarrased. Along with that I can talk to the other KL members and they can help me with any problems I have as well...And with this story says why I say that Kappa League is a fraternity inside a fraternity...because when you are in a problem you will have somebody to help you...BROTHERHOOD is the word! So with that being said regardless of what yall have to say...by definition Kappa League can count as a fraternity even though it is still in auxiliary group sponsored by KAPsi Frat. Inc.

I don't wanna say this to be wise mouthed but if you really dont like the youth auxiliary groups, don't you think that you should talk to your alumni chapter to ban the group if yall don't like it...You need to remember...The people who join KL, Delteens, Archonettes, SB, SOS...joined it because it was a club at their schools. They promote the club, We join it, and if we like it, we stay committed and dedicated:rolleyes:! That is right...right?!

I think there's a difference between not liking auxiliary groups vs. not liking some of the members in the auxiliary groups.

Okay...so to clarify...you don't like the members of the YAG who are:
  • gung-ho about joining their desired fratern(soror)ity
  • thinks that they will get into their desired fratern(soror)ity regardless of what other people say
  • knows too much about their fratern(soror)ity
  • and thinks that youth auxiliary groups are just for stepping and not community service, leadership skills, etc.
  • and any other things that can fit into these categories...
See I can see if you dislike the members like that. But whenever you have a club...there will be people who think they are going to be the real thing...like how JROTC cadets wants to be soldiers and how HS Basketball Players wants to be the next MJ or D-Wade...I'm not saying its right, but it happens! U gotta deal with it...See, to me...i am just a part of a club that emphasizes leadership and the importance of helping their communities and it just happens that the significant signature of the club is stepping and it is sponsored by the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and it is called Kappa Instructional Leadership League. I stay committed and dedicated to the organization and that's just what I do. And as what KLeaguer1970 said...for whatever fratern(soror)ity that I join when I get to college...Kappa League helped me learn how to committed and dedicated to a club/organization that I join! And that's straight truth!

It's not about that at all. The issue has already been stated. Most of these clubs are for mentoring at that's all. Not future XYZ and not mini-XYZ. BGLO members who incorporate things that are reminiscent of BGLOs are doing so out of...boredom, as far as I'm concerned.

fludda seems to have a lot of sense and has used his KL experience for what it's for. He also seems to have had some excellent mentors. Aside from his temporary swerveage. :D

Are HS "sororities/fraternities" a southern thing? I went to HS in Ohio and we had nothing like that.

Can't say it's a southern thing but many states passed laws prohibiting their existance in the early 20th century.
