Oh goodness, so now making claims and conclusions based on religious texts is not making a judgment but rather living by some infinite and absolute truth? LOL.

I weep for humanity and religion as a general institution. Yes, I'm making a JUDGMENT.

I judge harder than anyone out there. I defy any of you to judge as hard as me.

I also judge people who use text speak (such as lol or omg) in professional communications (such as emails to colleagues).

I really enjoy judging people who do not use capital letters where appropriate.

I also judge parents who see their kids acting out in a restaurant setting and do nothing about it. I am trying to eat and hold a conversation. I cannot do that with your child attempting to climb into my booth (while you and your husband are ignoring him or her).

Yes, yes, yes and yes!

I especially Loathe the use of Random capital Letters. Why? Do you think that puts More Emphasis on a word if You capitalize It?

Oh, and on that front, I hate it when people put a word in quotations marks to emphasize it. I know you "really" want me to notice what you're saying, but there are such things as italics. Hell, all caps if you're desperate. But not quotation marks!

It isn't an interpretation if you are stating it as it is written. So no, it isn't an interpretation.

Judgmental people are ignorant.

The Bible itself is an interpretation and reading it requires interpreting it because not everyone considers the entire Bible as a literal step-by-step "how to" of Christianity and life. I certainly don't.

Seriously, deepimpact2, are you claiming that all Christians gain the same meanings when they read the Bible? I bet that you and I interpret the Bible differently. Do you assume that your interpretation is the literal and accurate one? LOL

DrPhil, this made my day. I've had rounds and rounds of debates with my husband (raised in a Catholic country) about whether the Bible is interpretation. In my book, anything that someone says or writes is an interpretation! Especially when you consider the various editions, edits, and translations going on. Regardless of whether people take it as the letter of the law or not, it is someone's interpretation. So thank you :D

I just judged a woman in an acid wash zip up trench coat with leather trim and fringe. She was petite and it was not a good look for her. Acid wash cocoon is not the business.

There are no doubt parts of the Bible that we interpret differently. However, I don't think there is much room for interpretation with some things that are clearly stated. Fornicators and adulterers are also included in that particular text. I think it is pretty clear from that text and other parts that those acts are not pleasing to God. I'm not going to spend much time discussing this because I typically don't like to engage in huge debates about the Bible. It is usually pointless.

But I will say that I think people start getting obsessed over "literal" "interpretations" because they want to dodge around certain things and this gives them an out.

At the part in bold, that is pretty obvious.

This isn't a debate. There is nothing to debate and I don't debate religion. I discuss the overarching meanings of religion and religious text. This is how I'm able to discuss the exact same topic with Christians, Agnostics, Jews, Muslims, etc.

Fornication and adultery are not pleasing to God. Cool. How do you feel about those who fornicate and commit adultery? Is it all good or do you judge them for doing something that is "pretty clearly" not pleasing to God?

That's part of what makes humans imperfect creatures (for those of us who believe humans are imperfect and sinners). We see things differently and also bullshit and rationalize things to justify our thoughts and actions. I don't care who you are and how devout in a particular faith you claim to be. Nuns, monks, priests, saints, ministers...EV-ERY-ONE interprets and judges. That also makes people judgmental when it comes to things that they have firm and unwavering opinions about...and I guess that makes everyone ignorant as far as RU OX Alum is concerned. :)

Yay! I got talked about!

Sorry. It was a bad day. But yeah, everyone is ignorant, to an extant. If you're saying you're not ignorant, it's kind of like claiming enligtenment. But for me? Yeah, I'm pretty ignorant.

I's ignant as hell! :D

I was making sure you weren't claiming to not be among the judgmental and ignorant. CMB, we all we got!!!!!
