I've been enjoying your story. Carry on! |

Do NOT be sorry that your thread didn't have a "happy ending." There's nothing to be sorry about at all. Go home, pamper yourself, watch some movies, hang out with your friends, etc. Best of luck to you with school and things. |
So sorry -Feel better :(

Thanks for your support everyone. I'm just extremely disappointed because I desperately want to get involved on campus and I have now officially either not fit it or been unable to make the cut on every organization that would ever mean anything to me on my campus.

I know you don't feel that way now, but with time, the hurt will heal. This thread is a good read for those who do not receive bids: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=89902 For now, just take time out to take care of yourself and relax, but don't forget to enjoy college (eventually). It goes by too fast! |
I was in your situation last year. It absolutely KILLED. I would attempt not to burst into tears when I saw a girl wearing something sorority related, but often tears did happen. I got involved with the Residence Hall Association, Relay for Life, and did a lot of Freshman classes (Freshman Seminars, Freshman Interest Groups etc.). I also took up running, and focused my attention on training for a half marathon. Personally, it did not fill the void of not being in a sorority, but it was the best I could do. If you want to PM me, you are very welcome to do that.
P.S. may I suggest Nutella? |
Not to be rude, but what part of tried pretty much everything on campus isn't clear? I wish I was exgerating when I said I tried everything with the exception of groups that I obviously didn't qualify for (African American, Gay/Lesbian, etc groups) or clubs with majors totally different than my own. I did everything I could last year to fill the fact that I couldn't rush last fall, but I either didn't fit in (Cru, Intramural and club sports), they no longer exist (Hall Council), or you have to for the most part be greek to get in them (Student Government and Student Alumni Ambassadors).

youre just going to have to try a little bit harder then to do something thats not greek life. nto being greek doesnt mean youre a social leper. most of the non-greeks i know have awesome social lives in college. it hurts now, and youll cry. but at some point youll get tired of crying and being hurt. |
Question... since I want to know what my options are. If all chapters reached quota, does that mean that they are all over total and there is no chance of open recruitment?
|

You can COB to total at any time through the year. You can only go over total if it is to fulfill quota. Hopefully that makes sense, it's been awhile since I have had to study the greenbook and it is different on a small campus like mine was I am sure. |

You don't have to join a club, you can go to events and meet people. Obviously you're upset right now, so wait a bit and go back out and see what's on campus. |

Quota is just the max number of women they can take during formal recruitment. So, a chapter can take QUOTA of new members during formal, but still not be at TOTAL. If you are not at TOTAL, you are alllowed to have COB to fill the rest of your spots. Example: Let's say quota is 10. Total is 50. Sorority A starts formal recruitment with 40 girls, and they get quota during formal recruitment. 40+10=50. Sorority A is at TOTAL and CANNOT hold COB events. However, Sorority B starts formal recruitment with 30 members, and they make quota of 10. Now they have 40 girls. Thay are NOT at total and CAN have COB events so that they meet more women and fill up their leftover spots. At alot schools, the sororities start the school year VERY close total, so they make quota and are full, and there isn't any COB. I'd check with your Greek Life office for info about COB at your school. |

I'm sure it's rare, and unlikely to happen on any big campus, but on our very small two NPC campus it has happened, and from talking to my little who is chapter key advisor this will most likely be the case again this year. Sorry this went off topic a bit.... IloveSephora good luck, I know it kind of sucks right now but you are being very mature about all of this and you may still find a home in the Greek system. Being Greek is not the be all and end all though! |
