Dear Bethechange: I DO know your school. But I do not know anybody who can help you or harm you. I deperately wanted you to succeed. I know that it is EXTREMELY difficult for Sophomores at your school, period. I suspect that your experience was largely shaped by the fact that you are a Sophomore. There is a small much more informal Spring Rush. Not all sororities participate in it. I think that there is a formal one and a very informal one where one of your girlfriends might just approach you. Also I'm pretty sure that there is some form of snap bid after this formal Fall rush is over. Remember maybe some sororities were so picky that they didn't get the number of girls they needed. There are sites on here which are tracking which sororities had x number of bids accepted. The more knowledgeable women on this site can direct you about how to go after these things in general. Concurrently with checking out these things go to your school's student life--office of campus programs & organizations. There are non Greek organizations which you might enjoy. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Snap bids occur as part of formal recruitment.

You are thinking of COB/informal.

Also, it is highly unlikely that a chapter is "so picky" that they don't get the numbers they need. I'm certain that most (if not all) chapters there will meet total.

They MAY be informal opportunities, but they're not for sure. We won't know anything about that until formal recruitment is over.

I regret to inform you all that I withdrew from recruitment today. I was only asked back to Gray. I tried to keep an open mind and went to the video round and it just didn't feel right. It was tough, definitly shed some tears and was a little angry but I know everything happens for a reason and I have amazing friends who truly care about me and want to be in my life and this experience has made me appreciate them more than anything! Sorry it wasn't a fairy-tale ending but it happens.

So sorry it didn't work out for you. I was pulling for you. But you go to a great school with tons of opportunities and you never know what will happen. Just keep that positive attitude up to everyone, because you never know who's listening. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone. You all have been so sweet! I had an amazing year last year without being greek so I know I'll be fine. Besides now I am going to take the money that I was going to spend on a sorority and put it towards a trip to Africa this summer to volunteer in an orphanage, which is something I have wanted for awhile. Everything happens for a reason and I have no hard feelings towards any of the amazing women in the houses here. Thanks again!

I admire your attitude and optimism SO much. You seem like you have a really good head on your shoulders, and I'm sure you're a great person - sorority sister or not :p. Honestly though, your outlook towards life is something I strive for. Kudos to your parents ;).

PHI MU!

You, once again, prove that one should never give up. It can be easy or difficult, but you have years and then decades ahead of you with Phi Mu. Everyone loves the perfect rush, but these kind of stories are even better. I think that you will know that the struggle was worth it. http://www.tke-miami.com/graphics/GreekChat/icon14.gif

That is wonderful!! We always like an ending like this!

In the words of Mother Superior in The Sound of Music, "When God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window."

(I am a little emotional today!)

Congratulations! Can you tell us which color was Phi Mu?
