Of course, meaning that you're not actually helpless at all -- you know how to use all tools at your disposal to get exactly what you want. I know where the real center of power in the South is. ;)

Exactly. I do not believe southern women are helpless in the least. I just know that when the OP says "we treat women like southern belles" that's what HE thinks.

Maybe. That's not how I read it, though. When he said, "We are raised to treat women like southern belles,' I took him simply to mean they use their manners when dealing with women so as to avoid that most dreaded of corrections from mom: "That's not how I raised you to act."

And what is considered "manners" there might be considered condescending or chauvenistic here. YMMV. But basically...no I don't need a glass for my beer.

Well Vineyard Vines has been argued about. Most would go Southern Proper over VV.

I like some Southern Proper stuff, but it really seems like they try too hard to be "Vineyard Vines: The Southern Edition;" it honestly looks like they're stretching to create some "Southern" iconography that's not really there. The creators of VV developed a true lifestyle brand based on a very specific style of coastal living.

I can look at some Vineyard Vines things, and why they're included makes sense to me (like the belts with the MV and CC street signs, or any of the stuff related to whales). Much of the SP items, on the other hand, make me scratch my head.

Since it's a newer company, SP has a considerably smaller product line than VV (at least for women), which will probably dictate its market share for a while.

I agree on all.

But the "coastal living" part of VV is what appeals to most Southern Fraternity men.

Most of the big time Southern schools are fairly close to the coast.

Ok, with the whole "helpless southern belle" thing... 33girl said it first! :p

But seriously, that's not how I know women from the South to be. It's just one of those stereotype things... which I thought was the topic of this entire thread. I didn't think my post implied that all Southern women are helpless. I simply said if someone treated me that way, I'd probably think it was hilarious.
