I'm not a fan of Bush. I haven't been able to watch him on TV for a couple years now because he makes me angry. I have been counting the days to 01/20/09 for a long time. All that said, I'm deeply bothered by this incident and I would never wish harm on him.
ETA: As much as I thought I'd never agree with Kevin about anything, I agree with the post directly above mine. |

You can hate the man, but you should respect the office. It's a shame that our President is so disliked. But it shouldn't be acceptable for any American to support an assault on our President. Like KSigkid said, there are several posters in this thread who don't much care for Bush (myself included). The problem as I see it isn't that people have differing opinions regarding whether or not they like Bush, it's the differing opinions regarding how anyone who holds that office (whether they're liked or not) should be treated. The assault of a US President shouldn't be condoned by Americans. Ever. |

There is no possible justification for that sort of beating, IMHO. I'll bet that under Islamic Law, (Iraq is some sort of quasi-civil/quasi-Islamic legal system, right?) there will be some sort of awful punishment for this man. Let him have his trial, then let justice be done. |

Maybe you need to peep his approval ratings. And while you are busy being pissed at my cavalier comments about Bush, maybe you ought to peep this: Iraq's reconstruction a 100-billion failure http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20081214...reconstruction Talk about a Bridge to Nowhere..... |
Again:
The assault on a US President shouldn't be condoned by Americans. Ever. That's all I'm sayin'. |

Just to bring it up, I'm not sure if anyone on here realizes the seriousness of shoes, particularly throwing them, in Islamic cultures. Shoes, and feet in general, are considered dirty and distasteful particularly the soles. Based on that fact alone, I am sure he will be punished accordingly. |

BUSH BROUGHT IT ON HIMSELF and if he wasn't such a JOKE and failure of a President, more of us would feel a twinge of sympathy, heck, if the job was getting done in Iraq, it probably would not have happened. As it stands, I don't. Hate me if you will. Just have to let it be... |
Yeah, I'll admit that my husband and I had a quick giggle as he dodged the second shoe after we gasped after the first one was launched, but we both sobered up about it quickly. Regardless of who is in office, when the President is out of country visiting other nations he *IS* the US. So as Americans, we should feel some protective reaction about anybody taking a pot shot at our Commander in Chief. Again, regardless of the man in the seat, that's the US Presidency. Its like that old adage about how I can bitch and moan all I want about my family but don't you dare say something against them because they're MY family.
