Exploding Chewing Gum
Exploding Chewing Gum Blows Off College Student's Jaw
Wednesday, December 09, 2009 http://www.foxnews.com/images/service_skynews_36.gif A chemistry student in the Ukraine was found dead with his jaw blown off by what is believed to be exploding chewing gum, according to reports. The 25-year-old's disfigured remains were discovered at his parent's home in the northern Ukrainian city of Konotop, reports in the Eastern European country said. The young man, who studied at Kiev Polytechnic Institute, was working at a computer late on Saturday when the alleged explosion happened. "A loud pop was heard from the student's room," the ukranews.com Web site said, citing an aide to the city's police chief. "When his relatives entered the room, they saw that the lower part of the young man's face had been blown off." A forensic examinationhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif established that the chewing gum was covered with an unidentified chemical substance, thought to be some type of explosive material. The student apparently had a bizarre habit of chewing gum after dipping it into citric acid, Russian news agency Ria Novosti said. Officers found both citric acid packets and a similar-looking unidentified substance, believed to be some kind of explosive material, on a table near the body, the agency continued. Investigators suspect that the student simply confused the packets and put gum covered with explosive material into his mouth. Forensic experts were to travel from Kiev to investigate the substance, as local authorities feared it may explode if transported. I truly don't know whether to believe this one or not. Suicide by gum? |

Baggy Pants killer dies
Killer Tripped on Baggy Pants, Plunged to Death after Slaying Three Updated: Friday, 18 Dec 2009, 10:14 AM EST Published : Friday, 18 Dec 2009, 9:42 AM EST By LARRY CELONA, JOHN DOYLE, and LAURIE KAMENS (The New York Post) - A career criminal who slaughtered three members of a family in their apartment in New York's trendy Upper West Side Thursday plunged to his death after tripping over his baggy pants. The bloodshed began when the killer barged into the family's third floor apartment and opened fire at around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, near a string of upscale shops. Gunman Hector Quinones blew away 24-year-old Carlos Rodriguez Jr., and his father Carlos Rodriguez Sr., 52, and then repeatedly stabbed grandfather Fernando Gonzalez, 87, to death before the elder Rodriguez's wife and adult daughter walked unwittingly into the carnage in the apartment they all shared. As soon as Gisela Rodriguez, 49, and her daughter, Leyanis, 28, walked inside, Quinones, 44, opened fire again at the mother, grazing the back of her head, police said. He then went after Gisela's daughter, who scrambled for safety and ran to a nearby bedroom. The killer was inches away from grabbing her but tripped over his low-slung pants, sources said. |

crook caught due to WoW habit
Criminals can run, but they can't hide. Especially if they play World of Warcraft.
Just ask Alfred Hightower. Having successfully left the country to avoid being nabbed for dealing drugs, the fugitive figured he was home free. But thanks to his insistence on keeping up with his World of Warcraft habit, Hightower was tracked down by authorities and is now in custody, reports The Kokomo Perspective. The saga begins in 2007, when Indiana's Howard County Sheriff's Department issued a warrant for Hightower's arrest on charges of dealing in multiple controlled substances. U.S. Marshals were unable to locate the suspect, although a tip placed him in Canada. According to Howard County deputy Matt Roberson, authorities came upon the Warcraft connection during their investigation into Hightower's background. “We received information that this guy was a regular player of an online game, which was referred to as ‘some warlock and witches’ game,” he told The Perspective. “None of that information was sound enough to pursue on its own, but putting everything we had together gave me enough evidence to send a subpoena to Blizzard Entertainment. I knew exactly what he was playing — World of Warcraft. I used to play it. It’s one of the largest online games in the world.” Blizzard played ball, giving up Hightower's account history, IP address, screen name, billing address and preferred game server. One Google Earth search later, and Canadian authorities had apprehended Hightower in Ottowa, Ontario. “You hear stories about you can’t get someone through the Internet,” said Roberson. “Guess what??You can. I just did. Here you are, playing World of Warcraft, and you never know who you’re playing with.” link |
