Well gee.. USC didn't win their title game either. Their conference doesn't play one.

Did they even have to play the toughest teams in their conference this year? Oregon? They lost to a 6-6 Cal team. Oh, maybe they're 7-6.

Regardless, OU did win the most games in conference out of all Big XII teams. By SC standards, that would have been good enough to win the conference, even with the loss to K-State (who beat your powerhouse Cal by quite a bit).

I wouldn't be completely surprised to see OU still win the AP poll if they completely beat the crap out of LSU.

Oklahoma would have been in the title game regardless of SC's SOS. It was a question between LSU and USC. LSU just showed to have the better schedule.

ETA: This is my last post before I head on down to New Orleans. Probably won't get to go to the actual game (can't afford $600+ per ticket). However, it should be a fun time anyhow.

BTW. Pete Carroll doesn't get to vote for 1st place. The ballot starts with #2.

Can you say trashed at halftime???? I can. :D

SEC is 2-0...c'mon Floridia make it 3-0.

and NO...Houston Nutt is not going to the damn Cornhuskers.

LOL I don't think anyone around here from Mizzou was talking shit....we have no faith in our athletic dept. :D

The1calledTKE 01-02-2004 12:27 PM

Well looks like there will be 2 national champs and both and their fans will have to deal with sharing. I read the only way there could be 1 is if LSU blows out OU. LSU is AP's number 2 so they have a shot at tha AP championship all though unlikely since many ap voters thought it should be USC and LSU in the Sugar.

Not to detract from the inane bickering, but I'd just like to say...

'Canes Are Dynamite!!!! Not quite national champs this year, but at least they won their bowl (and beat FSU). :D :D :D Woohoo!!!!

Are we not capable of being more mature about this?

Evidently not!! Some time back, I asked why people couldn't support their team AND show good sportsmanship. I got called a whiner.

no, not the fans...I was referring to a couple of Mizzou players who were in the papers during the weeks leading up to the game.

I also may have been wrong...Houston might go to Nebraska, that is, if our outspoken minority of fans succeeds in running him out. We'll find out around 12 central here.

do the links
Nutt to Nebraska?

to get a taste of some of the dumbass fans (400+ users right now)

OK, what is it with FSU's place kickers? Yet another Wide Right to give the margin of victory to Miami - AGAIN? Are there some Miami fans that are from Jamaica that put some sort of voodoo curse on FSU way back in 1990, when this started happening (if I remember correctly this happened in 1990, 91, 92, 95 and 2000)?

Not a fan of either team, but, you have to feel for FSU - you just know they have to go out every offensive series with "touchdown" as the mindset, because the field goals are going to be pointless, and, if the field goal is for the lead and/or win, it isn't going to go through...unbelievable luck for Miami.

I edited a few posts in this forum in minor ways. I know we all love our athletic teams, but please play nice. I don't want this thread to degenerate into a flame war. If you have issues you are welcome to PM me.

As a Michigan fan, of course I'm disappointed in the outcome of the Rose Bowl, but I can't deny that USC played an awesome game. 9 sacks.. unreal! Congrats to USC on a game well played. As for Michigan, well, they have a great football tradition and they'll be back again! (They have to, cuz without them, we only have the Lions to root for and that's a hopeless cause!).

ME TOO! That is due to me really not liking USC for MANY reasons!

BUT...

GO COUGS!

We actually won the Holiday Bowl - YAY!!!

Thrillhouse 01-03-2004 03:03 AM

No team has ever been knocked out from the #1 spot in the AP poll after winning their bowl game. Just wanted to throw that out there.

amycat412 01-03-2004 03:30 AM

And I personally think all those who don't like us (USC) are just plain jealous.
No need to flame me, I will be gone from GC from 10 min from now until 10 days from now.

USC is the best team in the country... along with whomever wins the Sugar Bowl. I am rooting for LSU, but that is mainly because their fans, team and coach have been far more gracious about this situation than OU's have. This thread is a good example of that.

Here's why LSU hasn't said anything... they're ranked number 2 in both polls, they're a great team, and I'm not underestimating them in the upcoming game... they will be hard to beat...

And your coach wasn't too gracious last night on the post game show, nor have your fans been ever since the rankings came out.

It's difficult to say who the best team in the country is... TCU had a great season, and were overlooked many times in the polls. OU had the points according to the computers, we had strenghth of schedule, the point spread, and the votes.

You say we should have had to win our conference, well, you don't get to play a conference championship, and you don't play all the teams in your conference, so in my opinion, your conference doesn't have a champion.

Beating the no. 4 team in the Nation does not make you a National Championship team... Play in the BCS, play by their rules... Either LSU or OU will be champion, I'm betting on OU (school pride and all...)

I know this probably sounds like a broken record, but once again I agree 100% with you!!!!!

-- Ohio State won the Fiesta Bowl like I wanted, USC won the Rose Bowl like I wanted, and hopefully LSU will also win the Sugar Bowl!!!

Navarre sucks ass. And pretty much Braylon does too for totally missing a great pass how many times? Twice at least?

Some are sore losers. But some are sore winners and I'm seeing a few on here.
