I don't really watch the show, but I've somewhat kept up with what's going on, and this is what I thought was the problem, too.
Glad I'm not seeing things that aren't there.

I watched the season premiere and I've come to the conclusion that Kate is one of the least self-aware people I've ever seen. She has no clue on how she is coming across or how the things she does affect people. The whole time she was crying, I could tell she was really upset, and has no clue as to why, and that the situation is partly her fault. I'm guessing this is due to her upbringing.

Looks like Kate is so into herself, that she can't hear a word Maddy has to say. I would think someone in the room would do something... watch the video!

Oh please. Talk about overreacting.

And I don't mean Kate.

The clip wasn't that out there....I mean I would have given her a sip of the drink before myself, but Mady is also a whiny brat half the time, so I can understand Kate's reaction.

Has anyone seen the American Choppers commercial with Jon it in??

I watched it and I think I understand. She has 8 kids. She's alone and the cameras are about to roll. If she gave some to Maddy-EVERYONE would want and she didn't have time to do that and make sure they were not getting water on their clothes and were ready to go. She is going to do the most talking, so even though it looked really selfish I see where she may be coming from.

OMG. She didn't IMMEDIATELY stop what she was doing (with 7 other kids) to give ONE of them a drink that they won't stop whining about? Worst. mom. EVAR.

Seriously people?

The problem I have with Kate - and I just watched the "water" clip, is that she appears to be so detached all the time. I have always thought Mady is an over dramatic child. But, Kate does a poor job, time and time again, of explaining and communicating to the kids in a lot of situations. A brief conversation with Mady to reassure her that they will get drinks soon - not the "Can Judy get the kids drinks?" conversation she had over Mady's head with the producers, would have gone a long way. Her body language, everything, screams, " I am not giving any attention to what you are saying."

Of course she can't drop everything and attend to Mady's needs at that moment - but she does little to directly engage her and let her know she is aware she is thirsty and will get something for her as soon as it is possible. Everyone wants to be heard and kids are no exception. Actively listening to someone is not the same thing as catering to their every whim.

Plus, it WAS rude to say, "you are right, this is making me thirsty. Throw me a bottle of water." without letting MAdy know she will also get something soon.

She drives me crazy!

Maybe they will end the show for the good of their kids....but somehow I don't think that will happen!

texas*princess 06-18-2009 10:00 PM

^^^ I think that's a laaaaame attempt for ratings. Ratings have been dropping since that premiere episode.

Maybe they are going to announce they are done w/ the show.

That would be too good to be true!

It's so weird that this show has become so overexposed and people are so tired of them!

It just started in 2008 I believe.

TLC has really milked this thing for all it's worth.

I remember those, I think the little kids were barely 2 years old!

I think Kate and Jon were still working regular jobs, and they didn't have any corporate sponsors, lol.

2007, really? I thought it was earlier than that. I know that in one special the sextuplets were 18 months, but i thought the very first aired around '05 or '06.
