New & Improved Question:

How long has Chi O Creations (our boutique for buying all things Chi Omega) been around?

a.) It began in 1973, the year after Mary Love Collins died.
b.) Kirk Cocke started it in 1985 during her term as S.H.
c.) It began in 1989, when the Executive Office was still in Cincinnati.
d.) Their first year of sales was 1995, during Chi Omega's Centennial Celebration.

And I'll tell ya why...:D

I pledged in 95 and I feel like it was sort of a novelty at the time...But now I'm thinking c wouldn't be a bad answer....Oh I hate multiple choice! ;)

Would you like fill in the blank better??! LOL

Nooooo, it's not '95 (although Chi O Creations did a lot of business that year with the April weekend in Fayetteville, AR & the Centennial Celebration in June in Memphis).

Your 2nd guess IS correct! It was 1989. Chi O Creations operated out of a warehouse in downtown Cincinnati & was strictly mail order. The "catalog" was one piece of paper, folded. A long stretch from the glossy 36-page catalog I received in the mail yesterday. Chi O Creations (or COC as is the lingo around the HQ) is now online and offers over 400 items. We HAVE come a long way in 15 years.

Happy Anniversary, COC!

Since it was 1928, and I'd imagine that National didn't have the kind of capital to pay for everyone out of pocket (I know we already had many many chapters, but I'd imagine HQ wasn't charging a whole lot for dues), I'll guess b) $9 a day, bath and meals included.

And I'd like to wish COC happy 15 years, too :)

And I did start getting the Eleusis again!

Oh my, that is a lovely place. Does Marriot own it? Perhaps we could have Convention there again:)

NutBrnHair 11-10-2004 06:54 PM

No, it's not part of a chain. Chi Omega had our Conventions there for many, many years. The last one held at the Greenbrier was 1978. It would be fun to go back, but the cost is almost prohibitive and White Sulphur Springs, WV is not the easiest place to access with 1300 delegates flying in from near & far. In the 1920s, most people took the train.

b.) The Jefferson, a Loews Hotel, Washington, D.C.
c.) Crowne Plaza, Washington National Airport, Arlington, VA
d.) The Peabody, Memphis, TN

Nut! This is hard.. Well, I know it's in DC, but since DC is pretty pricey, I will guess a.) Crystal City Marriott, Arlington, VA.

Am I right?

Re: Already Dreaming of Convention '06

You are correct, XOMichelle! I also think the Kappa Deltas are having their Convention there in '05. This will be the 3rd Convention in a row at a Marriott property.

2000 Marriott Desert Springs, Palm Desert, CA
2002 Marriott Riverwalk, San Antonio, TX
2004 Crystal City Marriott, Arlington, VA

Located less than 1 mile from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the heart of Crystal City, this charming and delightful boutique-style hotel offers direct passage to Washington's world-renowned Metro rail system - allowing you to access the entire metropolitan area from within the hotel. Via an underground walkway, you can also access a vast and diverse network of over 125 shops and restaurants.

Surprise!

In June 1995, at Chi Omega's Centennial Celebration, which of the following did not happen.

a.) an antique car carrying people dressed as our founders, drove inside the ballroom at the Memphis Convention center.
b.) at the official dedication of the Headquarters building in Memphis, a man dressed in an owl suit parachuted out of a plane and landed in the parking lot.
c.) A mysterious, anonymous group calling themselves The Five Society, donated a gift of 50 placesettings of fine china for the Headquarters
d.) Mary Love Collins' grandaughter presented the Archives with MLC's Phi Beta Kappa key.

Sounds the "most" outrageous! I would love to see that, though!!! :D

Sorry Kathy, we did have a skydiving owl at the HQ dedication!

Guess again, please.

xo_kathy 11-16-2004 01:46 PM

NO WAY!!!!! That is hilarious! Please tell me you have a pic of that somewhere, Nut!!!

OK, then, I'm going to go with...D - maybe it's one of those tricky ones - she presented it but not at the Centennial Celebration?

XOMichelle 11-16-2004 01:54 PM

A skydiving owl? What a hoot!

xo_kathy IS correct -- D is the only false statement. Mary Love was a Phi Beta Kappa AND the archives has her Phi Beta Kappa key on display, but we had it long before the Centennial. Oh, and MLC had no children, so hence, no grandchildren either!

tricky, tricky!
