In my experience, the "I'm just rushing to meet people" people don't go the whole way through pref, however YMMV. |

COB
I'm going through COB this week and I'm really nervous. I know the actives will ask me why I am interested in joining a chapter (and I do have my reasons) but is it better to not mention about formal recruitment if I have gone through it (I was released early)? I'm not sure if rushing a second time is looked down upon.
I read the previous posts and saw the no-no on namedropping, but what about mentioning an active in general? For example, if my good friend Susie Smith was in ABC, could I mention (at ABC's recruitment event) how Susie told me about her personal Greek experience which convinced me to consider the recruitment events? Thanks again for this thread! |

**If someone asked you how you decided to check out ABC, it's okay to say "Well Suzie was in my class (or whatever) and she told me about..." but I wouldn't go on and on. |

Do not mention being dropped from formal recruitment. Either your school's system is small enough that the sorority members will know, and if it's large enough that they don't, it's in your best interests to not bring it up. If a member does question you about it, don't say "I was cut" - say "things didn't work out." |
I would be open and honest about myself, not be phony. Being fake takes too much energy.

Hey, I am really lost and confussed. I want to attend rush this semester, but the paperwork that is requested, such as recommendations and community involvement proof, ....is all this info needed before rush , or will the rush meeting inform you of the paperwork that you will need to turn in and when??? what actually takes place at rush..I am so confussed and I dont want to ask the other lady's on campus about what is needed nor do i want to ask the ladys that I AM FRIENDS WITH, who are actually apart of the chapter. ...please help anyone.... I know that rush is in about 2 weeks, so if I need to have these documents before rush then i need to get them like yesterday. I have went to the website and it really does not explain when this paperwork is due...before rush, during rush, or after the rush????? help clear the clutter in my brain, PLEASE! ..........and do you think its okay for me to ask the member who is my fiiend....because she has know idea that Iam interested.

Recommendations and resumes are generally reviewed well before rush, so that chapters have enough time to get to know the PNM on paper. Sending them in after recruitment's pointless. You don't send in a job application after you interview for a job. The fact that you didn't even bother to let your friend know of your interest is like shooting yourself in the foot. Most normal people ask for help from people they know in real life first instead of asking strangers on a message board who may or may not be familiar with rush at your campus. |

In this day and age where getting information about recruitment is at your fingertips-there is absolutely NO EXCUSE to be this confused. Call the office of Greek Life or check out the website. If you don't know the website, go to Google and type in STATE UNIVERSITY (obviously YOUR university) Greek Life-that should help you out! Good Luck! |
I believe due to her mention of "community involvement proof" that the sorority that tina93 is interested in is an NPHC group.

Usually, members of a sorority won't ask for your ideas as to how to contribute to their philanthropy, or for any other specific ideas concerning their chapter. If for some reason they do, give ideas, but without suggesting any major ones that might conflict with their current processes and procedures. We had a PNM once who came to recruitment events, made it a point to tell the sisters that she had done research on the sorority, and then said that she had a ton of new ideas for the chapter. She mentioned philanthropies she'd like to do, and in some cases, she gave specific examples of how we'd help out. When you're not even a part of Greek life, when you know little to nothing about how a chapter operates, and you've only met the members a few times, you don't start telling them how to run their organization. |
