First of all the bad news: I TOTALLY failed a math test midterm today. My precal class is completely necessary for my major (pysch) and I've already failed it once...things are not looking good for the future. Now the good news! I met with Mary today and looked over some of the paperwork and packets that were sent to us. Apparently whoever sends us info also is interested in Alpha Psi (the other local on campus) and together NBO and Alpha Psi have to pick three final groups to meet with. That should be interesting. I'm a little stressed about that, but I suppose it will all work out in the end. Beyond this, another group sent us info! Delta Phi Epsilon is now officially interested in us also. I'm so excited. That's three groups, plus apparently Alpha Phi has sent materials to Alpha Psi that also apply to NBO (confused yet?). It's sooooo much paperwork! Anyway, more later. Oh, and Mary said she would call our top six picks and send them letters of recommendation also maybe. Those would be Tridelt, DG, AZD, AOII, Theta, and KD. Hopefully at least one or a few of those groups will be interested in us. K more later!

Oh my gosh! You might be my DPhiE sister!:D I am so psyched for you whatever sorority you choose!

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I sent out letters to all those sororities I mentioned before (KD, DG, AOII, Theta, DDD, and AZD), and I printed them on this nice stationary and made little brochures to include with them that had some more info about NBO. I personally think it looked very professional and nice. The brochures had one section with our history, one with contact info, one with a poem, one with FAQs, one with just our title and a pic, and one with our goals. I'm pretty proud of how they turned out. So hopefully I will hear from some of them soon....that would be awesome if one of those groups responded, but seriously, the orgs that have already gotten in touch with us are awesome and I have no doubt that we will find a home with the place that's right for us. I am, however, freaking out about Spring rush. I don't feel at all prepared, we have like forty bucks total to work with, and I'm overwhelmed. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know! Corina |
Do you think that the groups are possibly looking to take Alpha Psi and NBO and combine them to make one chapter? Your chances might actually be better that way.
|
I really really hope not....they have like 4 times as many members than us at least, and I think we would get lost in the process....I hadn't even thought of that before now! I'll ask Mary and get back to y'all!

Hey everyone,
We met with Mary today, and she's going to help us plan out our rush, which will be awesome. Things really feel like they're coming together for us...I sent out all my letters, and I really hope I get a reply. Mary said she would call as many orgs as she could of the six we were interested in. The thing is, I think we only have til like next week before we have to decide who we want to invite onto campus. I'm going to be so bummed if none of our fave groups wants us :( But, on an exciting note....Tri-Sig sent us info! That makes 4 groups total! Pretty cool huh? And we're getting our philanthropy stuff together also. And, I might be getting a new job doing something I absolutely love. Today has been a really great day! love, Corina |
wishinhopin,
Great about Tri Sigma sending you information! We have a wonderful sorority and I work with extension some too :) I wish you luck, sounds like so much fun!!! |
Update! Delta Omega Chi (the local frat here on campus) called and asked us to do a rush event with them! This is completely awesome, because they're great guys, really down to earth, plus it will be nice to have something fun with them. We're going to BBQ and play softball with them, at the park by their house. I'm so happy! Plus, our rush t shirts are now going to be baseball themed, so it should be really cute. I'm so happy. Ok thats all for now, more later! (sorry if this makes no sense, this is our first planned event with a frat and im super excited!)

Congratulations on all your success, Corina!!! You should be very proud of yourself adn your sorority :D. I hope everything else ends up going the way you planned!!
|
That is so awesome!! You are really making huge progress. I'm so excited for you & the other girls at NBO!
:D :D :D |
Yay!
Corina,
The invitation of the local fraternity should help you get your sorority's name out on campus. That's really great news! Let us know how the BBQ goes! :) |
Corina,
All I can say is wow! Keep up the amazing work. Look at how far you've come in just a few months! |
Sorority drama....
Ok, I have a personal opinion question. My sisters want to do a pledge activity that I don't agree with, and I was wondering if other people felt like I was being unreasonable or if I had a point. They want to have our pledges do a "natural beauty" day, where they aren't allowed to wear makeup or put any products in their hair, etc. This would be to make a point about how those things aren't necessary, and they're beautiful without it, and we love our sisters no matter what. But the thing is, I think it totally defeats the point of this lesson to make it a pledge thing- I mean, they're not allowed to wear makeup, but we will, and I don't think that really teaches them anything. It just seems very hypocritical to me. I feel like my sisters are very unhappy with my work as president so far, and they seem to think that I'm messing up our sorority alot. I'm trying as hard as I can, and I don't think they necessarily realize how much work I put into NBO. It hurts my feelings to think that they don't respect me as a sister or a president. I don't know what to do- I feel like they can't wait for me to not be president anymore so that they can do things right or whatever. I feel like shit. Please help. love, Corina |
re: "Natural Beauty Day"
In my opinion, in most NPC groups, this activity would be classified as hazing (ie anything that new members are required to do that initiated members are not required to do). Just because there isn't potential for actual physical harm doesn't mean it isn't hazing. Stand your ground, Corina! I believe that you are correct to oppose this activity. All it will do is single out the new members and in no way bring unity or harmony to the group. Being president is hard. Sometimes it means having to do things the correct way and not the way everyone else wants them done. |
The "no make up" thing for pledges only sounds like hazing to me...not a good way to present yourselves to NPC groups!
