Here are totals...should be FAIRLY accurate:
Alpha Chi Omega - 86
Alpha Delta Pi: 87
Alpha Gamma Delta - 84
Alpha Omicron Pi - 84
Chi Omega: 80
Delta Delta Delta: 78
Delta Zeta: 87
Gamma Phi Beta: 58
Kappa Alpha Theta: 89
Kappa Delta: 84
Kappa Kappa Gamma: 81
Phi Mu: 97
Pi Beta Phi: 78
Zeta Tau Alpha: 88
Could be off 1 or 2, here and there.

I got
Alpha Gamma Delta = 85
Delta Delta Delta = 80
Pi Beta Phi = 79
Phi Mu = 87

Great job AnchorAlumna!

Football Fan 08-18-2008 12:16 PM

AOII BAMA MOM 08-18-2008 12:17 PM

Benzgirl 08-18-2008 12:18 PM

I hate to hear that about Gamma Phi. I was a DZ at Bama and there were 2 girls from my hometown that went through rush. One was a legacy of DZ, but was not impressed by them and went ADP and couldn't be happier. The other little girl, was so impressed by DZ, but they dropped her before prefs. She was heartbroken. She had 2 recomm. coming into rush from my mother, who was a DZ at ETSU and the other little girl's (the ADP) who was also a DZ at ETSU. We all thought that she would get a bid from DZ. On pref night, she had AOP and GPB, but dropped GPB b/c she really didn't like them going through rush. I could ring her little neck for not going to the GPB pref night b/c she might have loved them. We are all hoping that she will either get an interview for the new one recolonizing at UA or that she will get picked up for a snap-bid from someone. Or if anything will get an invite from someone for spring rush. So, that was why I was wondering if everyone made quota, but DZ has a HUGE pledge class!!! So, I don't think that she will have any luck there. But congrats to all the new members!!!

Looks like Pi Beta Phi missed by 1, but I'll bet that spot is already filled...however, every group has a few that drop out the first week or two, plus so many more students graduate in December now...you never know. I'd encourage her to take another look at Gamma Phi Beta, too! They have a lot of outstanding members. Plus Alpha Phi's colonization coming up...it's a great time to go Greek at Alabama!
Roll Tide!

Ha! Me too. Never underestimate the things I'll do to put off doing actual work. :D

Oh I also noticed while breaking those down that there are a couple cities I think they forgot to put the state with. I have never heard of Duluth, Alabama, for example. I'm assuming that's Georgia but who knows, could be Minnesota!

Congrats to the new members at Bama-especially our new ADPis!!

Note to BamaDZ: My friend's daughter (from Georgia) is currently in the DZ Bama chapter. I believe that she a junior now. My friend, who is also a DZ, and has another daughter who is a DZ, usually goes over to help during rush. I just looked at their chapter website. Those girls are just gorgeous!

I also see a girl in there who must have got a snap bid from KD because I talked to her mom on Wednesday or Thursday and she had been dropped from all houses.

So can we finally stop telling girls that if they're out of state, they've got a snowball's-chance-in-hell of getting a bid? There are many out of state girls on the bid lists of all the chapters.

Benzgirl 08-18-2008 01:54 PM

I saw about 7 or 8 from Ohio and I must say that I'm surprised. Naturally, 3 were DZs.

My daughter got Gamma Phi Beta..Not many from Virginia got in to sororities (maybe 23) but of course not sure how many attempted...

Not tearing down the chapters, because I don't know the sorority tiers on campus. I don't think anyones ever said that out of staters won't get a bid. Just not always to certain chapters...it's more true of fraternities than of sororities anyways.

edit: Looking at the list and the home towns of the girls, I can immediately tell you which are the better chapters.

I agree as well. I have worked with a collegiate chapter at Ole Miss for the past few years, there are plenty of out-of-staters who get into their top choice. You just have to have your recs and your act together as well! Trust me there are plenty of local girls who don't get into their top choice or even pledge anything at all. A young lady from GA I wrote a rec for this year at Alabama had a wonderful recruitment too, she got her first choice. So it can happen and I think we need to tell any out-of-state PNM that if they have their act together and their recs together things will work out!

Welcome to your daughter!

Just wanted to correct/clarify some things. The chapters do not have a say in how many women they get through Formal Recruitment nor does Chapter Total have any bearing on this number. Panhellenic attempts to match bids so that the maximum number of PNMs receive bids AND the maximum number of chapters achieve quota.

All chapters who participate in Formal Recruitment are obligated to take Upperclassmen. There is a seperate Upperclassmen quota for them and handled in an identical manner as Freshmen quota. If a chapter misses the Upperclassmen quota they may snap bid another Upperclassmen to achieve it. They may not snap another Freshmen to fill Upperclassmen quota or vice versa. FYI - Panhellenic only reports the Freshmen quota to our I/natls. So from an I/natl statistical standpoint, Upperclassmen are counted as quota additions.

Panhellenic also determines who quota additions are and how many each chapter receives. This is not based on Chapter Total either, rather a continued attempt to place as many PNMs as possible in the chapters which the PNMs preffed yet didn't match. Panhellenic balances them out so that no single chapter receives say 20 quota additions while everyone else gets 0.

Snap bidding only occurs during Formal Recruitment to get up to Quota. After that it is called COB (Continuous Open Bidding) or COR (Continuous Open Recruitment). Chapters that achieved quota through Formal Recruitment yet are still below Chapter Total don't snap up to Total. In "regular" years (for lack of a better word), any chapter that was still below Total could COB/COR right away or throughout the semester/year until they achieved Total. However this year with Alpha Phi's colonization there is a moratorium on COR so that they may recruit without potential competition. (I don't recall the date when the moratorium is lifted.)

Thank you! I'd also like to thank all alums who contribute their time to their local chapter's Recruitment -- especially the Advisors. I'd also like to thank their families who put up with them being away from home so much. Recruitment is pure insanity with ridicously long hours, especially at a large competitive school like Bama. For the college age girls it's not nearly as big a hardship since this is the only thing going on in their lives. But for the alums who are juggling families, jobs and other real life obligations, it takes a real toll -- physically with the long, crazy hours and emotionally with the intense stress to make sure everything is done perfectly. The world will come to an end if the wrong PNM gets invited/cut. ;)

The earliest I got home on any night was midnight. Those were the nights when it was the first half of a two day round. The latest was 4:30am. Yet I still had to be up everyday at 6:30am to get my kids ready for school. I saw my Hubby long enough each day to say "Hi". I was ready to walk out the door as soon as he got home from work to take care of the kids.

My daughter did not get a bid. Will she have another chance ever to join a sorority? If so, what are the procedures?

Thanks.
