that LV piper is carring is so obviously fake it's not funny-

So my roommate freshman year went to the mall and came home with a "Chanel" bag she insisted was real. She got it from a boutique at the mall... I asked her once where it was made Italy or France haha she checked the tag & said China. She treated this purse like it was the real thing-- I felt so bad I honestly don't know if she knew it was a fake the way she treated it. I mean this girl brought home these decorative boxes that said couture on them and were black and white and all she did was talk about how they were "Juicy Couture" I didn't have the heart to tell her that they weren't real

So i'll put it here since it's about fake designer bags, but I was watching the Real Housewives of Atlanta and Nene was visiting her aunt (the one who raised her) and the aunt had a fake Coach bag.

I just thought "dang Nene, your rich you couldn't afford to spring for a real Coach for your aunt."

I couldn't get over Kim giving her daughter a $1600 LV for her 10th birthday...and she had bought her another one just a week before?? Big Poppa must have some deep pockets.

Wait...her name is really Piper Palin? I hate to say it, but if that's true then her fake LV is one of the least of her worries.

my mom went last week to the local goodwill and bought a trench coat with the tags still on it for 5 bucks.

I knew it wasn't just me that was  :( at that. That's just foolishness. Thank God my friends outside of Atlanta recognize that all Atlantans aren't as over-the-top materialistic as these "ladies".

But I feel weird about the people that don't know real Atlantans and think this show represents my hometown. :(

I did the same thing a few years ago, except it was $9. I ended up selling it for over $200. :)

I own two designer pieces - a Coach Signature wallet and a pair of Burberry sunglasses. I got both for < $100 and love em.

As for the purse? Corduroy hippie bag all the way.

I managed to not buy anything, but I did keep the NEX in mind when it's time to go shopping for a new purse!

You need to be careful with that, though, OTW. A couple of years ago, I saw a Dooney & Burke bag I liked cheap at the NEX and next thing I knew every freaking enlisted wife was carrying the same bag around Annapolis. (To everyone reading this, I know that sounds snotty but OTW and I have had several conversations about designer goodies so she understands that the sentiment behind the statement is not meant to be snotty).

I finally gave the bag to my sister in Pittsburgh. They don't know designer up there so she was just like, "oh. a bag with a duck on the clasp. cool."

HEY! Pittsburghers may be a lot of things, but they are not completely naive to designer goodies! 33girl back me up here!

KillarneyRose 11-01-2008 01:52 PM

It's okay, alphagamzetagam. I'm a born and bred 'burger myself :) I should have specified that my sister doesn't know her Cucci from her Goach :)

agzg 11-01-2008 01:54 PM

Aww sad. I guess it depends on what neighborhood you live in but I saw designer stuff all over the place. And my Furla got more compliments than any other accessory I had.

My uncle owned a restaurant for years. There was a ladies trench coat that no one claimed from the coat check for a long time, so he asked several of his waitresses if theywanted it. The coat was too small for everyone else, so he brought it over to my house. The label --- Burberry. This was back inthe 80s, before knock offs were mass produced. I wore the coat for years and finally donated it when it looked "dated".

Where is your mother shopping?!?! I need to go to that goodwill.

I have a few crazy cool real bags that I've gotten very cheap: 1) Burberry tote from the ChiO MSN list 6 years ago... it was free! 2)very real, new, beautiful Marc Jacobs bag that I got from my roommate's cousin's gay brother who works at Saks. 3) new Bulga bag, (I unwittingly talked the lady down in price at the beverly center!).

I know what you mean. My sis-in-law is a bargain shopping queen! She gets all kinds of designer clothes from Goodwill and consignment shops. She even scored a pair of $300 jeans for my niece for only $15. It's a gift that only a few are blessed with.

Love it---I worked at the Burberry store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago on weekends one Christmas holiday in the mid 80's (second job). We got the plaid kilts to wear, along with the pleated tuxedo-front shirts. When we were done, we got to keep the shirts. How strange--I never go downtown anymore, but we went past it & the other stores just last night and my husband asked me, "Didn't you work there for awhile?" I also worked at the Gucci shop for several months, which is how I got the position at Burberry's. Working at Marshall Field's (almost "The real Field's" - it had already begun to change somewhat) for several years helped alot in retail.

My take on designer bags:

a) Most of them are ugly to me. I buy bags that look good.
b)The point of a designer bag in most cases is to say "I am rich. I can afford this." So if you can't, really, what's the point?

I buy for my body. If it looks good, classy, and cute I'm buying it. Fashion is fun from an artistic standpoint, but I don't feel the need to blow a paycheck on a brand name.

I think their point is so that they can pretend like they can afford it.

Honeykiss1974 11-13-2008 12:19 AM

If you're blowing a paycheck on any type of luxury item you're not too smart actually.

I'm big on buying what you can afford (no fakes though). There are people who think you're nuts to spend over $20 on any handbag so it's all subjective imo.

TTT...How I spent my Black Friday looking at Goachs

I was in Atlanta for the Thanksgiving holiday. My mother, who has developed a love for Goachs, wanted to go to a warehouse/flea market place to find some Goachs and other fake bags. This is one of the places her secretary (the one who hooked her up with the Goach in the first place) goes and gets her bags.

We went down to Metropolitan Avenue to the first place. They had a lot of people selling Goachs and other fake bags. Some of they were trying to sell them for $25-$35. I did have a eye on a fake LV, but it was the wrong color and decided against buying it. Most of the bags I saw were obviously fake. We left empty handed.

Then we went to another store near Greenbriar Mall, but they didn't have that many bags. They did have some Goach boots. My mother tried them on (and they were in her size) and they did not fit. I tried not to laugh.

I can kind of understand if someone has a fake LV, Chanel, etc. BUT THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A FAKE COACH OR DOONEY. You can always find them a a decent price, if you look hard enough. My mother kept saying she wanted to go to see the Goachs, but I told her we can go to Lenox Square and get the real ones.

Honeykiss1974 12-11-2008 11:55 AM

/\/\ Mama NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

On another note...

I have one more bag to purchase and then ...(holds back tears) I am putting myself on a handbag ban. I have bought wayyyy to many bags this year and I need to rethink my collection and get rid of some. So until I get down to the essentials, its no more bags for me. :(

agzg 12-11-2008 12:01 PM

You can send some to me! :D

jitterbug13 12-11-2008 12:44 PM

Send some to me too!!!!

This reminds me that I may need to get my mom a COACH for Christmas.

Fawn Liebowitz 12-11-2008 06:28 PM

If you have a Dillard's in your area, Coach purses are 30% off - they're not discounted online, but they are in the store!

It is just for the weekend.

I bought a Dooney today for 30% off as well.

ZTAMich 12-11-2008 08:12 PM

Canal Street here in NYC near Chinatown has a lot of fakes. It's crazy crowded, usually with tourists.
My best friend is visiting this weekend and bringing his girlfriend, who has never been. In an email he sent me last week he said "I'm taking her to Canal Street (of course; she's a woman afterall)" It took me a minute to realize she wants to buy fakes. Ewwww. I hope I can get past that when I meet up with them!! :)

Honeykiss1974 12-11-2008 11:34 PM

lol my VP told me about the sale at Dillards today. Why did she skip a meeting this afternoon in order to go and shop? LOL

Scully 12-12-2008 01:36 PM

There are no Dillard's close to home so I went to the website and the online offer does not apply to Coach (in-store only)! I just got excited for nothing. Booo! :) I've been craving the Sabrina bag.

DSTRen13 12-12-2008 03:50 PM

All the bags are on sale at Belk's too - 30% for everyone, plus an extra 20% off if you have a Belk's card! My co-worker just came back from a reeeealllly long lunch with this news :D

At any rate, I hate fakes. People waste entirely too much money on fakes when they can just save the money they waste on fakes and buy a nice, quality bag.

however, one thing that pisses me off is when people assume that I'm carrying a fake. I get crazy comments all the time about my bags.
