Chapters at Rowan (NJ)

The list of NPC chapters currently on Rowan's web site is a bit different fron the one in this GC recruitment thread:

http://www.rowan.edu/clubs/greeklife...PCChapters.htm

Rowan has also posted this notice:

"We would like to advise all students and parents/guardians that there are groups of University students that are not recognized by the University. For your own well-being, we discourage you from attending their events and from affiliating with these organizations."

The notice is near the bottom of this page on Rowan's site:

http://www.rowan.edu/clubs/greeklife...howtojoin.html

The list of groups includes the names of -- or names identical to -- two NPC organizations. The organizations are NOT listed as members of Rowan's Panhellenic.

Are these chapters of Delta Zeta and Phi Sigma Sigma recognized by their HQs? Does anyone know why the 5 NPCs on campus are recognized but the other 2 are now?

The Phi Sigma Sigma website lists Rowan as an active chapter. The Delta Zeta website does not list Rowan. Any more than that, I do not know...

Some groups do keep chapters open even if the school derecognizes them - especially if the derecognition is for bogus reasons. The school may put their own negative "spin" on it but whether the national HQ still recognizes them is another matter altogether. Being unrecognized by the school does not necessarily mean a group is operating with no oversight whatsoever.

This may not be the case here, but I just wanted to point out it does happen.

(Sorry for the hijack, irishpipes)

I found this regarding the DZ chapter at Rowan. Looks like DZ had some hazing and disciplinary offenses. Their chapter website hasn't been updated since 2005.

irishpipes 07-28-2008 06:00 PM

I <3 exlurker. To be totally honest, I dread 2 parts of this list - California and the Northeast (mainly NJ and NY). So thanks for giving me all those CA dates!!!

Yes, my top-secret NPC source confirmed that the DZ chapter isn't just unrecognized, it is indeed closed at Rowan.

Sigma closed in 1989 and reopened in 1996. DPhiE was open from 1974-1995, with a brief recolonization attempt in 1997–1998. DZ closed in 2003. Also, according to my info, the dates for ZTA are incorrect--they opened in 1979 and have been open since. The Greek Life website has a document with a timeline of all the fraternities and sororities that have ever been at Carolina. It's listed on this page as a Word document: http://greeks.unc.edu/index.php?opti...=121&Itemid=40

I think you already have the recruitment dates, but here's the schedule for anyone interested:
August 29th--Open House, 4:00pm - 11:00pm (PNMs visit all 10 chapters for 20 minutes each, with a one hour dinner break)
August 31st--Skit Round, 1:00-6:00pm (PNMs spend 30 minutes each at 7 chapters)
September 1st--Philanthropy Round & House Tours, 3:00 - 8:00pm (PNMs visit 5 chapters; rounds are 45 minutes long
September 3rd--Preference Night, 6:00-9:00pm (PNMs visit 3 chapters for 45 minutes each)
September 4th--Bid Day! 6:00pm

I have an edit! Alpha Phi at DePaul and at University of Dayton are both listed as being inactive, but they aren't closed chapters.

Thanks IrishPipes!

Thanks IrishPipes!

Sorry about Dayton - don't know what happened there. As for DePaul, they were derecognized by the University for a period, so it is good to hear that all is well in the windy city. I will "light" them back up!

Definitely. I was very surprised to see that it will be longer this year. I hope the turn out is even stronger than last year.

I have some updated information about some colleges/universities in Texas:

Midwestern State University - September 2008
Saint Mary's University - formal recruitment is held in January 2009
Schreiner University - formal recruitment is held in January 2009, they are holding an informal recruitment information session on September 4, 2008
Southern Methodist University - January 14-19, 2009

irishpipes 07-31-2008 08:51 AM

Only 4 days until recruitment starts! I believe Oklahoma State is first, kicking things off August 4.

LAblondeGPhi 07-31-2008 12:53 PM

My God! 4 days until recruitment! My girls in California won't even start recruitment school for another month and a half.

But I do LOVE recruitment, so I can't wait to start reading the stories!

Were the two groups still recruiting on campus and that's why the website had that notice up?

It's hard to believe that Fall Recruitment has started already. According to the AGD recruitment dates list, I know East Central (OK) started today. Troy University and University of South Alabama start this week...then 'Bama and Auburn on Sunday! Wheeeee!

Hi Irishpipes, I have some more updates for you but it says your inbox is too full, I would post them on here but it's a lot of updates.

University of Louisville and Indiana University Southeast

Some minor additions/corrections for two universities:

University of Louisville's campus total is currently 80.

Indiana University Southeast's Recruitment dates are September 16-28, 2008 (exlurker was referencing an out of date website that either has been, or is in the process of being, taken down due to its inaccurate information- FR is spread over a week and half now, instead of just one weekend) and campus total there is currently 30.

Thanks for the great work!

Oklahoma State U. NPC Sorority Bid List 2008

As published in a local paper: names, hometowns, and sororities:

http://www.stillwater-newspress.com/...ces_printstory

irishpipes 08-12-2008 05:10 PM

That list doesn't jive with LyreLyre's report. (And frankly, it seems like the bid list published must be incomplete just knowing OSU and the reps there. I'm inclined to go with LL's report.) I am glad to see that some of the smaller chapters went over quota. Go Pokes!

Yikes. All I can say is I hope any discrepancies between LyreLyre's report and what the paper printed aren't too serious, and can be resolved. I don't have any inside info re OSU that would help.

irishpipes 08-12-2008 05:26 PM

The list shows 3 groups under quota. Two are WAY under and the other is slightly under. It could be that some PNMs didn't accept bids or something, I guess. The two that are way under wouldn't typically be under quota at OSU. At least not that far.

gphiangel624 08-13-2008 11:15 AM

not to nitpick, but the info for Ohio University is not correct. Here is the correct info (in bold):

Quota=
Campus Total= 135
Quota last year=21

campus total

Just wondering about the campus total for U of F. The scholarship reports on the web page (http://www.greeks.ufl.edu/resources/ ) only show 4 chapters at or above total if 180 is campus total. Does that sound right?

According to irishpipes' recruitment data thread, total at UF was listed at 180.

VandalSquirrel 08-15-2008 08:38 PM

The PNMs all showed up on campus today. I was running errands on campus and talked to so many parents and gave them directions. they are pretty obvious with their maps or general looks of confusion, even if they are alumni. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to the moms I met who are Greek and said "I don't care where she ends up, as long as she is happy because XYZ may not be right for her when it was for me over 20 years ago." Maybe there isn't going to be a full air invasion of the fwappity fwap fwap.

I also had a mom and daughter randomly show up at my office because they just got into town and were lost. I printed off a map of campus and a schedule because they had such a good attitude for what can be a super stressful time. I also heard that there are likely over 300 women signed up for recruitment, and women were still allowed to sign up today. Quota could end up being close to, if not at 30, crazy.
