If there should be a third (the final installment for Chris Nolan), who do you think should be the next villan?

Suggestions:
The Ridler (my personal favorite)
Bane (the comic book version, not the awful movie version)
Black Mask

Hmmm....they cant keep going back and doing villains they already used...I mean they basically retooled the Joker and Two Face from the 80's ones....

Jim Carrey's Riddler was pretty cool...hmmmm

Bring back the League of Assassins with Ra's Al Gul's daughter Talia, running the show

Hush (alias Thomas Elliott, Bruce's long time friend)

Killer Croc

BUT...they HAVE to do Hugo Strange!!! Comeon ...someone who knows Batman's identity and is insane enough to try and kill Burce to BECOME Batman???

moe.ron 07-22-2008 11:18 AM

Hush would be a good character to have.

The Riddler would have a lot of potential in Nolan's world. Imagine a Jigsaw (from SAW) kind of character that goes on a killing spree, but he leaves Riddler after he kills all his victims.

The Riddler doesn't fit at all in Nolan's Gotham.

Hush would be great, but you're starting from scratch - none of the backstory has been laid.

It'll be a combination of Catwoman and Ra's Al Gul most likely. Nolan has already stated there would be no Penguin, and has openly doubted the viability of the Riddler.

ok.....who is hush? i've seen the comics. there was a special on the joker, and they said that he's the perfect villian for batman. something about how the joker is the complete antithesis of what batman stands for.

The Riddler as he described it could actually work.......

shyt....Batman vs Jigsaw could work....LOL

starang21 07-22-2008 11:58 AM

i think bane would be cool.....because that would be a two movies.....knight-fall and knight - whatever the hell is called

DS's wikipedia link goes through it well - I'm not much of a comics guy, so I don't really care about continuity issues, but they're kind of cornered with Ledger being dead and all, so it'll be interesting to see what they do.

The Joker is perfect for Batman because their interaction is actually much deeper than it really should be for a comic hero/villain setup - the Joker really exists to get Batman's attention, and wouldn't exist without Batman. It has literary father/son and teacher/student undertones, etc. Very weird, but much more there than you'd expect - that's similar to why Iron Man worked, but I couldn't give a shit about Daredevil or anything else. Depth.

Ksic...i was thinking more like a yin yang kinda thing...not so much father/ son...

The Joker is Batman's barometer....he exists to remind Batman that there is a line that he can never cross if he is ever to stay true to himself al tho the Joker is more than willing to accomodate.

I will agree with you about daredevil...I hated that movie....but this is what's going on here....as each superhero franchise is being brought to life onscreen, writers and creators are doing whta it takes to add more life and breadth to these otherwise 2D characters....

it's kinda like......Superman set a bar that wasn't rivalled until batman.......then another long period went by and then Spiderman and as each movie behind Spiderman came thru the floodgates, moviemakers realized that they had to make sure they got them as right as possible if they were gonna keep fans....which is why Dark Knight has set another bar that others coming behind it will be hard pressed to overcome...

Blasphemy.

I saw it on IMAX on Sunday. It was amazing. I felt like I was flying along with Batman.

barbino 07-22-2008 10:11 PM

I saw it Friday night--the lines were really huge, and some of the bigger theatres in town were sold out days in advance. Two kids told us to cut in front of them so we got good seats.
How could you not like this movie? If you have Morgan Freeman in a movie, you don't need anyone else. But the other characters in this were all excellent also. I liked the fact that it was shot in Chicago, but with the lighting and the overhead vantage points, you could scarcely tell where it was most of the time (until they were on the street right on lower Wacker Drive). :)

DSTCHAOS 07-23-2008 11:45 AM

Saw it last night and LOVED IT!!!!!!

Especially:

1) I got sooooo excited when Harvey's face went in the gasoline and his face burned because I knew he'd become Two-Face!!! :D I announced it to my man and he was like "who is Two-Face and how do you know what's about to happen?" I know because all comic book fans should've known. :) I've always looooved Two-Face. However, the story behind Two-Face is different in the comics.

2) Ledger did a great Joker. He took Jack Nicholson's Joker to another level. Funny, yet crazy as hell.

3) I need to see Two-Face in the next movie. I would also like to see either Scarecrow or Ventriloquist.

What I didn't like:

1) I hate Christian Bale in the role. Okay as Bruce Wayne but nothing special.
2) I hate the raspy lisp they gave Batman (I could see he was trying hard to talk that way because I could see his tongue and his teeth when he talked)

For those of you who didn't like the speeches. They are a big part of comic book sagas like Batman. There's a story to be told and a moral story, as well. Only Batman's speech annoyed me and that's just because of his fake raspy lisp. :)

He can. :) That's why I want him in the next movie. Scarecrow and ventriloquist are just an aside.

I'm sorry....I just don't see Eckhart carrying a whole movie...and with ____ dead...it kind of skews part of his whole reason for wanting revenge...that was one aspect that kept 2 Face from teetering completely over the edge was that his human side of him still wanted to be with his family

____ being dead feeds his need for revenge. He feels like "the good guys" failed him and he is disenchanted with the system. :)

He doesn't have to be the only villain, of course. It will be just like some of the comics and cartoons where each villain was doing his own thing to get at Batman. Even having villain meetings. :) Love it.

Right...but sometimes taht is where movies mess up...by having too many villains that never really get to develop...Spiderman 3 for example...should have been all about Venom...but you still had to play out Harry Osbornes role and then the Sandman (wtf?). Even when 2 Face was a co villain in that hot mess Batman movie from the 90s he was upstaged by Jim Carrey's Riddler...so I am of the thought that if they continue this....have a strong story behind Dent or if they are going to use a co villain, let 2 Face run the show....and actually thinking about it...my idea yesterday of Hugo Strange coming into play wouldn't be a bad idea.

Him being 2 face's psychiatrist.

Did you see Thank You for Smoking? Eckhart can carry a movie, but I don't know about this type of movie. Anyway, he wouldn't be carrying it alone - Christian Bale would be back, presumably.

I also liked that link Daemon! But I don't agree with the author's ideas of who should be cast in the roles. Isla Fisher, Shannyn Sossamon? Really?

I hope they don't recast the Joker. I mean, who can pull it off after Ledger?

Does anyone remember how stupid batman was in the 60s? I wasn't born then, but it still comes on. I think it's on tv land. I watch it just to get a good laugh. "Holy lisping lips batman" lol lol :p:p:p

I commented on that everytime he talked and/or they showed his lips. I couldn't get over it. It was distracting. I was hoping they cut his speaking parts SHORT but instead he wouldn't shut up.

I watched the reruns in the 80s. It wasn't stupid. It was corny. It was supposed to be corny.

If you don't begin to understand comic book-based shows and movies (and those made in the 1960s, at that) in the next 2 posts, I am going to ask that you take CrackerBarrel's lead and leave this thread. ;)
