:(

Phil Harris, Captain of the F/V Cornelia Marie suffered a stroke while off-loading.

No further information is out at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his sons during this time. I'm so sad and I truly hope he's o.k.

Leslie Anne 01-30-2010 11:42 PM

Oh no! I love Phil. I hope he's going to be alright. He will definitely be in my prayers.

Dreadloc'd Diva 02-10-2010 01:10 AM

I like Phil, too, but when he recovers..I don't think his doctors will allow him to work. He may have no choice but to retire.:(

thetygerlily 02-10-2010 01:37 PM

He didn't make it :( I'm sure they have a lot of support from the other crews and fans right now.

BetteDavisEyes 02-13-2010 07:54 PM

Captain Phil will be missed. I am definitely praying for the Harris boys to get through this.

I got a Cornelia Marie sweatshirt. I absolutely love it and plan on wearing it a lot. Lol. I finally get 2 of my favorite sweatshirts & it's going to be in the 80's here in Southern California.

BetteDavisEyes 04-13-2010 09:54 PM

The season premiere is tonight and I can't wait! I get the east coast feed so it's recording so I can watch later tonight with no damn commercials.

APhi Sailorgirl 06-01-2010 02:29 PM

Is anyone watching this season? I almost feel like I'm waiting for Phil to die. It's kinda ruining it for me. I try not to bawl every episode either.

And DH and I both don't like the captain of the Kodiak. Shoot his own son quit after king crab season.

they had the marathon on yesterday and I was watching it at various times, and every time I turned it on I would wait to see if Phil was still alive. Completely morbid of me.

IrishLake 06-01-2010 05:02 PM

i'm watching. one of my favorite shows. i dont mind the captain of the kodiak... he just has some bad luck. i hate captain keith of the wizard though.

i have the biggest crush on Sig.

BetteDavisEyes 06-05-2010 01:37 AM

I like the captain of the Kodiak. He's salty but I miss the captain with the fu-manchu mustache. I think he captained the Maverick.

Keith is an asshole. I'm glad the Hillstrands called him out on his bullshit.

I feel the same way with Phil b/c he suffered the stroke during an off-load of opilio crab season. Now that opi season has started, I watch every episode wandering if this is the one. :(

PM_Mama00 06-16-2010 01:01 AM

Wow did anyone else end up in tears at the end of tonight's episode?

IrishLake 06-16-2010 01:09 AM

Not quite... but if people who watch don't already know Capt Phil dies, they should have a good idea. I <3 Captain Phil.

And duh, Jake's an addict. You'd have to be blind and have the TV on mute not to notice that.

Dreadloc'd Diva 06-17-2010 09:21 AM

I was in total shock about Jake being an addict. I'd like to know when it started and if Josh knew about it. What did you think of that episode when he had to go to the Northwestern for three weeks?

BetteDavisEyes 06-19-2010 06:01 PM

I was so sad watching that episode. For the rest of his life, Jake will have to know that towards the end of his fathers life, they had this argument in which Phil told him to get out of his life.

I am curious as to if Josh knew because based on what I've seen on the show & stories I've heard, they were not close at all prior to Phil's passing.

VandalSquirrel 06-19-2010 10:10 PM

I saw Deadliest Catch Sig beer tonight. His face is on the bottle.

SWTXBelle 06-20-2010 08:43 AM

Sig's my favorite! Too bad I don't like beer.

Mike loves Sig's comment, "I just realized. I'm THE dick."
He keeps quoting Sig & laughing.

IrishLake 06-22-2010 10:03 PM

Now tonight's episode... I teared up.

BetteDavisEyes 06-26-2010 12:27 AM

I teared up during this episode. So heart-breaking because we already know how this story ends. :(

PM_Mama00 06-29-2010 10:02 PM

I don't think I can handle next week's episode. I could barely handle this one, especially when Jake Anderson was talking.

BetteDavisEyes 07-01-2010 11:35 AM

I was wondering when the other captains would start finding out. To be honest, it was Keith's reaction that sent me over the edge crying. Sig turned off the lights as we know he didn't want that filmed, Andy was in shock & called Johnathan but Keith. Wow. He cried & didn't care that they filmed it. I cried too. What surprised me that I didn't know was that Johnathan Hillstrand was there with the Harris boys & Phil during that time. I don't think that was ever mentioned before. Also, seeing the reactions of the crews made me tear up again.

The next few episodes will be rough to watch.

I think the next one will be especially hard because they show Phil in the hospital, awake, and with his head shaved from the surgery. It's so hard to understand how someone could be seeming to do well, and then their health takes a plunge and ultimately kills them.

BetteDavisEyes 07-01-2010 11:40 AM

Wasn't it Sig the one that grabbed the cigarettes & threw them in anger before shutting off the lights?

And yeah, it's getting harder to watch. I remember reading Discovery saying they would only air what the Harris boys gave permission to air & that Phil told them to keep filming no matter what.

^^^ this was me. :(

PM_Mama00 07-06-2010 08:46 PM

I'm watching last week's epi for the 3rd time and it still makes me cry. I read that next week is the dreaded episode. Tonight will be rough. I think on last week's episode, what got me the most, was Freddie's speech to Josh while sitting in the wheelhouse. I think Josh will forever be grateful to him for kind of pushing him to go be with Phil.

In other news, I like this new captain Bill. I can't remember the vessel's name.

BetteDavisEyes 07-06-2010 10:02 PM

Thank goodness for DVR! I also keep watching it & crying when I see it.

IrishLake 07-13-2010 10:01 PM

No dry eyes tonight. Huge lump in my throat.

KSUViolet06 07-13-2010 10:02 PM

Ugh. So sad. I couldn't even watch the whole ep.

BetteDavisEyes 07-15-2010 01:45 AM

I was so sad that Jake wasn't there with his dad in the end though I was happy he'd gone to rehab. I felt so bad for Josh when he got the news & then I started to sob (literally) when he called Jake. Next weeks preview with the captains finding out left me crying harder. :(

PM_Mama00 07-16-2010 01:10 AM

The rerun is on right now for those up late.

ForeverRoses 07-16-2010 08:45 AM

I was okay during the episode- maybe because I was prepared or maybe just because of the way it was edited with the crab fishing stuff in between- but I had trouble watching the reunion ep.- that one brought the tears.

PM_Mama00 07-16-2010 12:27 PM

I cried a little during the episode. I completely lost it when they called Josh to come back because something went wrong. It reminded me too much of my uncle's death. He had a heart attack, was getting better and would survive, and then something went wrong and he passed quickly. Too sad.

PM_Mama00 07-21-2010 12:07 AM

Ok editting cuz I just watched the whole episode.

Wow. The reactions of Freddy and Jake Anderson really got me. I thought it would focus more around Phil and less around fishing, but I think it's the way Phil would have wanted it. He was my favorite and I hope the Cornelia Marie continues to be successful without him.

nikki1920 07-21-2010 02:07 PM

OMg!! I was crying the entire episode!!!

BetteDavisEyes 09-30-2010 12:36 AM

Captains Johnathan & Andy Hillstrand as well as Captain Sig Hansen have quit the show. :(

I'm curious to see how the Harris sons are doing.

IrishLake 09-30-2010 04:58 AM

I saw this. Kinda made me sad, but at the same time... I don't think continuing the show without Phil is a good idea. So it's prolly best that the Hillstrands and Sig quit.

ForeverRoses 09-30-2010 10:11 AM

Those were my favorite captains (and Phil of course). I don't really like the remaining captains.

I think it cool that Sig quit in solidarity with the Hillstrands. Especially since Sig was more than just one of the captains. If I remember, he is also one of the tecnical advisors or something like that.

ms_gwyn 09-30-2010 01:26 PM

With Captain Phil gone :( and now the Hillstrand Brothers gone...there is no reason for me to continue to watch this show...

Leslie Anne 10-08-2010 07:36 PM

It's back on!

Sig and the Hillstrands have worked things out with Discovery!
