If I couldn't be an A-Phi I'd probably choose Kappa Kappa Gamma. They were the other house I went to on Pref and it was really tough to put them as my number 2, but in the end I'm glad I Pref'd Alpha Phi as my number 1!

The other one I'm really interested in is Gamma Phi Beta. I've met quite a few of them and they all have been super sweet girls. I think I'd fit in really well in thier house!

That was a good question!

Denise_DPhiE 02-04-2009 04:41 PM

Although it was not an option when I was an undergraduate (they have since come to campus), I would choose DG. I have never met a DG I have not adored. Having served on our NPC delegation in the 1990s, we sat next to them in row and each and everyone one was gracious, knowledgeable and lovely. I learned a lot during that period in my life!

Oh, I just remembered, during my first consultant visit for DPhiE, I was at Syracuse to help with recruitment and they lived next door. I am a "Delta Gamma, that's what I ama" still sticks in my head!

beccaminister 02-04-2009 04:57 PM

If Phi Mu wasn't an option, I'd still want to be a Macon Magnolia :), so it would be ADPi. I LOVE their badge and colors and I just love Alphie :)

There were 3 other sororites on my campus, Chi O, Tri-Delt and AOPi, and I just couldn't imagine myself at ANY of those because of campus-specific associations I have with those chapters.

My other choices would probably be Alpha Xi Delta because their crest looks so similar to Phi Mu's or Delta Zeta because I LOVE pink and green and turtles.

This was a tough question! Great thread!

AlphaXi_Husky 02-04-2009 05:31 PM

What a fun and interesting thread!

It's really hard for me to think back to when I was 18, so my choices are influenced by women I've known and what I've researched. Here they are, in no particular order:

Kappa Kappa Gamma - I love their colors (similar to ours!), love their symbols (especially their badge), and I like that fact that, as someone else pointed out, our founding members considered joining them before starting AXiD.

Kappa Delta - All of the KD's I've known have been so classy and are just the nicest and most helpful ladies. I love all of the organizations they're involved with, and green is my favorite color :)

Zeta Tau Alpha - Out of all the philanthropies, I think I like theirs the best. I keep learning of more and more people I know who are affected by it. And I love the crown.

Theta Phi Alpha - I have no idea why, but for some reason I really strongly identify with this sorority. I just get a good feeling about them - even though I have never met one and we didn't have a chapter at my alma mater. And I just love their creed - so beautiful.

APhiAnna 02-04-2009 08:38 PM

Kappa Alpha Theta - One summer I met a Theta who had resigned her membership and was very bitter, and she told me one of Theta's "secrets" that happened in their ritual. As shocked as I was that she would tell me that, it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. I have never told anybody what she told me, but from a ritualistic standpoint I think it's jaw-droppingly beautiful so I admire them a lot.

Delta Gamma - From purely superficial reasons, I think they have a lot of fun stuff. Their nautical theme, anchors, the little DG hand sign that the members make...from a philanthropic reason, I LOVE that Anchor Splash is usually the biggest sorority philanthropy at most schools they are at.

Kappa Kappa Gamma - I attended pref there and they were my second choice. I love how classy of an organization they are, and they seem to uphold their class at all the schools I am familiar with.

myopicsunflower 02-04-2009 09:21 PM

It's interesting to me that some of my Alpha Phi sisters said they would like to be Kappa Kappa Gammas if they weren't Phis, because if I wasn't a Phi, I could see myself very at-home in Kappa, mostly because one of my best friends is a Kappa, and everything I know of the organization from her is so positive.

I also admire Delta Delta Delta a lot, because every single Tri Delta I've ever known is a complete class act and a genuine woman with her heart in the right place.

KSUViolet06 02-04-2009 10:29 PM

If I had rushed back when I was 18, I probably would have made a decision based on colors and liked Phi Mu or Kappa Kappa Gamma.

In terms of programming and such, I'd have to go with Alpha Delta Pi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, or Tri Delta.

puglover 02-04-2009 11:29 PM

I would select one of the Ole Miss Chapters so that I could have an active role as an alum. My choice would be between Chi Omega b/c I love Make a Wish and Kappa Alpha Theta because of CASA. It would be difficult to choose between either organization because both have outstanding reputations. However, since I have not seen any one select Chi Omega on this thread I will go with Chi O.

BabyPiNK_FL 02-04-2009 11:30 PM

As a Phi Mu, I'd keep it in the family and choose ADPi.

If not them then DeeGee or Zeta. Then Tri Delta, Theta, or Tri Sigma or AOII. All are strong nationally and have colors, symbols, or in the case of the last two, local chapters that I saw myself in before and during recruitment.

joliebelle 02-04-2009 11:45 PM

I would pick Zeta Tau Alpha for semi-superficial reasons. I love their colors and symbols. I also love their philanthropy and every Zeta girl I know (so many from my high school) are classy, smart women.

Picking from the sororities on my campus, I would have to pick Tri Delta, because I love their open motto and the Tri Deltas that I know are fun and they have a great sisterhood

SWTXBelle 02-04-2009 11:49 PM

and don't forget - those Tri Deltas have a crescent, too.

exactly! That's one of the reason's I was drawn to Gamma Phi, since I didn't go through recruitment :)

tangelo212 02-05-2009 03:22 AM

Ok I have a few, and for all varying reasons/to different degrees.

Delta Gamma: My best friend-since-we-were-born's mom was a DG at my parents' alma mater and she is AWESOME. Growing up our families were really close, and I really admire her. I also love their open motto, Do Good, love the badge, love the anchor symbolism and that each house has one outside. Also, I feel like they were a very prominent organization in the area I grew up and I hear about them a lot; I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't know what DG was.

AOII: My mom is an AOII and I love hearing her stories, learning about sorority life, and just growing up with it. I have her old jersey that I used to wear as a PJ shirt. I know it's a little on the superficial side, but I also think it's cool that they don't have a crest/coat of arms because they are staying true to the Greek tradition; same thing with the strictness about what forms their letters can be in/on what things (my mom talks about this). I also cannot remember a time when I didn't know what AOII was. Funny, I thought I would end up at my parents' and childhood BFF's mom's alma mater and be in one of their chapters :) It didn't work out that way, but then I would never have found Alpha Phi!

Delta Delta Delta: I preffed here, so I feel a connection to it. I also love the motto, "Let us steadfastly love one another." That really gives me chills. My close family friend also just became a new member here and I couldn't be more thrilled for her!

Alpha Delta Pi: I don't know as much about this org as the others I have listed, but I think the Ronald McDonald House is a beautiful cause. I also think the history as the Adelphean Society is cool. Also, their motto is seriously my favorite (next to Union hand in hand :p), "We live for each other." Honestly, every time I read or hear that, it nearly brings tears to my eyes. It has a poetic, emotional profundity to it that just gets me.

I really like this thread. I think it is very Panhellenic :)

southernsugar 02-05-2009 05:27 AM

As a Georgia woman, I would probably have to say if I had joined a sorority besides my own, it would be Alpha Delta Pi or Phi Mu.
Tri Delta is also an amazing group- I love their philanthropy and colors, and all things ocean-y.

lovespink88 06-24-2009 08:56 PM

**Bump!**

I just came across this thread and thought it was fun!

Kappa Kappa Gamma - I loved them in recruitment, I think their house on my campus is gorgeous and I thought it was cool to hear that AXiD almost merged when them before we went national. Oh and I love their badge (I really love badges that are the shape of something!)

Delta Delta Delta - I love my Quill more than anything, but if I had to pick a second favorite, I think their badge is BAD ASS! I'm not sure if it's just an optional guard or something, but when they have the trident sticking through the back, I think it looks SO cool! Plus, of all sororities, I associate them most strongly to their philanthropy, if that makes sense. It just seems like they do so much with St. Jude's, which I find to be impressive.

And for more flat out superficial reasons:

Delta Gamma
- My third favorite badge! So pretty! And I love their hand sign (even though it's more of a hand/arm sign)

Kappa Alpha Theta - Love the black and gold! And I think the nickname "Theta" is cool too. Oh, and there was something I liked about them in recruitment: Instead of a crazy loud chant in the first round, everything was calm and quiet, and at the end they sang this very pretty little song. I don't know the name but it was like "Theta Kite". I dunno, I thought it was so cute!

Wow what an interesting thread!

Hmmm...here are my choices.

ZTA- When I was freshman they were colonizing and I made friends with one of them in my oceanography class. Such a sweet girl!! I also rushed them in Spring 2006 before I went through Fall recruitment. I could only attend one of their open houses out of 3 so that might have been my downfall. LOVE the strawberry story and the fact that the crown HAS to have 5 pts!

KD-Such sweet and smart girls on my campus! They were my absolute fave up until Pref Day..I felt so comfy there. I really like that they have so many philanthropies and there crest is so beautiful!! I think that their letters just flow ya know? OH and because when I was a Pi Chi my twin aka partner was a KD and she was AMAZING!

DG-I've always been a fan of anything nautical. Cute colors. VERY catchy songs. The chapter at my school had one of their sisters pass away nearly 2 yrs ago and I just remember how classy the girls were and how the entire Greek community was there for them. Very sweet and outgoing ladies! PLUS the interior of their house was my fave out of all the houses lol.

Honorable mention: SDT- I preffed this house and got along with them great. There philanthropy event is the most popular on my campus. My roommate is one as well!

Because of their badges and colors: DDD, KKG, Pi Phi, DZ

BaltoAlphaPsi 06-25-2009 08:26 AM

I would have to say AXiD, because my sister is one, and she is 2 years older than me. I love how she grew when she joined. And I am always welcome on her campus as a little sis. Also, they do have a great alum network, and I always loved her badge. Plus, their motto "the pen is mightier than the sword" is part of my life even with out me being a legacy to Alpha Xi Delta.

lauralaylin 06-25-2009 09:49 AM

Probably Chi Omega because my boyfriend's (now husband) mother (who passed away when he was 4) was one, and I would want to try to continue that tradition since her four daughters didn't go Greek. I also think there's a good chance if I had gone through formal recruitment, I would have joined them.

ThetaPrincess24 06-25-2009 12:23 PM

Such a hard question!

I think I still would have Kappa Alpha Theta on the top of my list!

But others would probably be:

Kappa Kappa Gamma
Delta Delta Delta
Chi Omega
Kappa Delta

I like their colors, symbols, and philanthropies. I cant remember any I've met to this point I havent liked and/or admired.

IUHoosiergirl88 06-25-2009 02:31 PM

Even being only 2 years removed from age 18...I have to say I'd have picked:

Kappa Kappa Gamma: They have such an extensive alumni network and every Kappa I know is what I envision a sorority woman to be. Gorgeous and classy women, and the Golden Key is the same

Phi Mu: Love their colors, loved the chapter during recruitment, and I have to keep it in the Macon Magnolia family!

Kappa Alpha Theta: Their song is still stuck in my head (I'm a Theta, she's a Theta, wouldn't you like to be a Theta?) and they're also an extremely classy and intelligent chapter

Zeta Tau Alpha: Their philanthropy is huge at my university, and I love their dedication to the breast cancer cause. It really holds personal value to me.

If I had to go on purely superficial reasons: Tri Delta or DZ

BUT I love love love my ADPi :]

unicorn 06-25-2009 05:41 PM

Kappa - I think the fleur de lis and the blue/blue are super pretty, and it seems like I always see Kappas in letters, which I just love. I also like the single-letter nickname!
Theta - I love that their pansy matches their colors. And again, the single-letter nickname.
Tri Delta - Their pin is really pretty, and it would have been neat to be my older cousin's sister. Oh, and the line from A Southern Belle's Primer... "Delta Delta Delta, can we help ya, help ya, help ya?" Awesome.
AOII - Another cousin is one (we went through recruitment the same year, though), and I think it's neat how they write their pi - II.
DG and AST - I like anchors a lot, and both groups have really nice mottos which correspond to their letters.

It's definitely funny enough to be from SNL! It cracks me up, every time.

LionTamer 06-28-2009 08:17 PM

Hard to tease out from the chapter images at my school, which had most of them.

#1 would be Delta Sigma Theta, (hey, we're being hypothetical here). All the DSTs I've met in my industry (phamaceutical/biotech) are amazing women, and for DST (and all the BGLOs), sorority truly is a lifetime of sisterhood and service.

Also Chi Omega, because damn, I wanted an owl lavalier, and not just the same old two or three greek letters

Tri-Delt and Theta have a lot of famous alumni

Although I complain about ASA being a relatively small national, and although I don't know anyone's ritual but my own, without giving anything away, I'd be harded pressed to believe anyone else's ritual is as lovely and inspiring as ASA's....

Now...imagine you are 18 again (or 17 in my case) and you are going through recruitment at a university with 25 NPC sorority chapters (all but the one of which you are a member!) Which NPC group would you pledge and why?

Assume that each chapter is equal in all respects except what you find on their (inter)national websites.

I'll have to post back later once I decide!

This is fun.

Based on just going to the National HQ websites I would choose:
ZTA- it is the most eye catching and I think would appeal to new members. It was the only one that looked different from the rest and it screamed "sorority" to me.

PIN: Hmmm this is much harder because I think the majority of pins are pretty. It would probably be easier for me to pick one I didn't like.

Philanthropy: I have to go with AXO- it is timely and relevant- not that others are not, but it speaks to a lot of PNM's.

Symbol: I have several that I like: DG- anchor- you can find stuff with anchors every where. Kappa- the keys at Tiffany's are to cute! Theta- the kite- I have seen very cute things done with this one. Pi Phi- the arrow

National Organization/Reputation: Kappa, Theta, Tri Delta

When I was in school: I wanted to be an Alpha Phi when I began recruitment because I liked their house and they were perceived as the best on campus. I transferred to another school my senior year and would have chosen Pi Phi.

Thanks for coming up with this.

ChitownPiPhi 06-29-2009 04:27 PM

This is an interesting thread. Hmm....

I think several NPC groups are great for varying reasons. If I had to narrow it down to just three, these would be my selections.

1. Kappa Kappa Gamma- strong organization, drawn to the "Monmouth Duo".
2. Alpha Chi Omega- Every AXO lady I've met over the years has been very classy. A very sweet and nice group at my alma mater. Go Marquette!
3. Theta Phi Alpha- I am Catholic and love that this organization was founded for Catholic women.

However, Pi Beta Phi it is for this girl until the day I die! Happy to say that my younger sister chose Pi Phi too. Although, there are so many wonderful groups out there, I wouldn't have minded a "Panhellenic" family. Whoo-Hoo!

Cheers Ladies!

drgnlady 06-29-2009 07:29 PM

I'd choose Zeta Tau Alpha so my daughter and I could be sisters. Also, I love that crown. Zeta has hands down the best symbol for a "girlie girl."

Tippiechick 06-30-2009 03:18 AM

Hmmm. Based on colors/symbols/all other superficial shit and NOT having to do with what I actually thought of the groups on campus...

Kappa Kappa Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Delta Zeta

But, I would really have only wanted to have joined KKG, KAT, and AOPi (at Ole Miss) besides ZTA. (XO, AOPi, and DZ at MTSU)

********All groups aforementioned are breathing a collective sigh of relief that they didn't bid me... Lollers!******************************

Too funny, Tippiechick!

jessica.lanelle 06-30-2009 11:14 AM

What a fun thread!
I would have liked ZTA based on their colors, symbol, philanthropy, and b/c they are also part of the Farmville Four :) .
I have also always liked Pi Beta Phi, because a girl that was one of my friend's roommates in college had transferred to our school, and where she came from she was a Pi Phi, so I got to see the colors and badge of a sorority I was not very familiar with at the time.
I also like Chi Omega, since their colors are really pretty, have a cute mascot, and also since they were founded at University of Arkansas, home of my favorite football team!

khlkcca 07-02-2009 04:52 PM

I would have been a Theta Phi Alpha because I like the way the letters look on shirts and their Creed.

However, I love Delta Zeta's house at Purdue!

I totally agree with your observation of the ZTA web site! I'm actually surprised more groups haven't changed their sites to be more "sorority" like for the PNM's who may be getting on them.

mystikchick 07-08-2009 11:04 AM

This thread has been great to read.

So, if my campus had had a Greek system, and I could have had my pick of any of the NPCs, my first choice would unquestionably be Alpha Gamma Delta. Hands down. They have a hugely special place in my heart because of the links between the organization, its founders, and Wesleyan, and the diabetes philanthropy is meaningful because diabetes affects my family.

Other than that, for purely superficial reasons:

DPhiE - I like their history and I think the purple and gold is really striking together. Plus I think the nickname "Deephers" is really cute.

KKG - I adore their colors, the fleur-de-lis, and the symbols.

KD - The Dove commercial with the little girls makes me cry each and every single time I see it, and I can't think of a better cause to be involved in than helping to build the self-esteem and self-worth of little girls. And there just seems to be something so elegant about KD, just based on what I've seen here on GC and on their website.

kellyelizabeth7 07-13-2009 08:29 PM

Kappa Delta because their philanthropy is dedicated to preventing child abuse. As a certified sexual assault/domestic violence advocate, I love their cause.

Though nothing could separate me from those DDD's ;)

perfectinpurple 07-15-2009 09:39 PM

I would have definitely gone AOPi....

My aunt was one and I can remember she had so many good memories and pictures of all the fun she had. I was dying to be an AOPi when I went through recruitment!!

ILoveMyKey 07-31-2009 09:25 PM

First time poster! Woot!

If I had to choose any other chapter besides my beloved Kappa I'd have to say:

ZTA: My grandmother was a Zeta and I value family traditions alot, so being a sister with my grandmother would have meant something to me. Plus their symbol is so cute.

ADPi: Began in Macon, which is like my second home to me. Adore their colors! They scream "I'm a sorority girl" to me.

DZ: Really connected with them during rush. Have yet to meet one I do not like. Another chapter I'm a legacy to. Man my daughter will have choices ha.

I'd just like to say its really a beautiful thing to see members from all different chapters come together and promote Panhellenic spirit. Its something that should be embraced on all campuses.

Psi U MC Vito 08-02-2009 01:21 AM

Well since I'm not the only guy. If I had a daughter I wouldn't want herto join a sorority (Sorry ladies). I would want her to join Psi Upsilon more then anything else. (Beautiful thing about being coed. At certain schools at least, any child would be a potential legacy. )
