Did anyone catch last night's episode?

When talking about her parents, sometimes I wish she'd just say "I'm ashamed of mom and dad and this is why..." so she can save others from Googling it. Don't know how valid that answer is (especially the part about the no teeth), but the generic answer she always gives and the look she has when she gives it leads me to believe that she's totally hiding them on purpose.

I agree. Plus the whole "Nana Janet" thing always throws my wife and me off.

I'm curious as to how they got people to sign up to help in the first place.

I know that, with other multiples (namely the Dilley 6 and McCaughey 7), members of their church took shifts in feeding and changing.

The way Kate put it out there last night, it seemed like they put out an open call for help. Immediate family need not apply.

What I understood from last night's episode was that Nana Janet, Beth, etc were people who contacted Kate to help. Kate mentioned that she met Nana Janet when right after she had the twins (Nana Janet would cook her meals and bring them to her), so i'm assuming Nana Janet just volunteered to help. Kate also mentioned that Beth volunteered to help her.

The Gosselins church is 30 mins or 1 hour away (i can't remember which Jon said) so I don't know if any of the congregation ever helped.

Plus Nana Janet, Beth, Carla and Aunt Jodi all live in the same area---the latter three (if i remember correctly) live within houses of each other.

Can I just say that i'm falling more and more for Aaden. Leah was my favorite but Aaden and his "professor" glasses get me every time! I think he's just ADORABLE!!

That explains things alot. I always found her answers to the "Why aren't your parents on the show?" question to be a little weird, like she was hiding something. It was never just like "Oh they live far away." or "We don't talk much." That's pretty normal. It's always something like "It's just better off at this point in time for them to not be around." That leads people to believe that there's something going on with them.

Sidenote: I loved seeing their home videos. I'll say it again, John and Kate were totally hot before they had kids.

Right, but remember, the 6 lived in that old house for their first year. Wyomissing, I think?

Beth, if I'm not mistaken, lives on those acres of land.

Jon's story is more believeable -- my mom works a lot.

Kate's dad's face was even blurred out in the wedding video.

I absolutely love Beth's house. I wish I were one of Beth and Bob's kids sometimes. Also, I think Jon works for Beth's husband, if I'm not mistaken.

I read on another message board that Jon did work for Bob after he quit his government job, but he's started his own business and works from home now.

I know they were married in Wyomissing, not sure if that was where their first house was....but it would make a little more sense since Jon's dad was always around and also Nana Joan (i think that is her name).

But I know that Beth moved. I remember her talking about it in one episode. Idk if she still lives in Wyomissing. I would find it strange if she lives in Wyomissing b/c Jon made it seem like it was sooo far away (that is where they saw the 4th of July parade) and they always drop the kids off at Beth's.

epchick 06-17-2008 05:37 PM

Question for all of you.....do you think since the sextuplets are going to preschool soon, do you think they'll continue w/ the show? If yes, how do you think they'll film it?

They have said that they'd like to keep going with the show as long as they are able. Kate has said that would like to do preschool at home for the little kids but I guess we'll see.

I recall seeing the "Wyomissing, PA" banner in the Surviving Sextuplets and Twins specials. In the ones after that, they've simply read "Central Pennsylvania"...probably good reason for nosy people like us. :p

Beth's still in that gorgeous house, right? After all, who'd want to move and give up all that space?

I've read Wyomissing, Lancaster, Hershey...all over, but some other stalkerrific fan posted they live in Elizabethtown, PA on another site. I also take it that not too many people who live in those areas aren't real fans of Kate or the show.

ETA: Being that others are posting the family's and Aunt Jodi's home addresses on another site, I wonder if the show provides security for them?

Wow, whoever wrote that blog seems pretty passionate about Kate not letting the kids use markers at the crayon factory. LOL.

I know that people love the show and stuff, but I think it's really stalkerrific of people to put their home addresses out there, particularly since there are so many people who (as seen in the blog) don't like them at all.

That link is insane. Is Kate's financial record on public display or something? how do they claim to know so much? Jealousy is such an ugly color on people.

I wanna say their how is in Lancaster b/c I think it during the episode that they went to that "gymboree" place, the workers said Lancaster. Although i'm not too familiar with PA, so i'm not sure how close all these places are at.

I always thought they were in Reading.

About Beth, I believe the house she moved into was the one at the top of the hill....its huge and beautiful. I think you and I are thinking of the same one, OTW.

ETA: I was unaware that, after reading the comments on that URL, Kate getting a haircut every now and then is WRONG!!!!!! For shame Kate!! Apparently Kate has sooo much money that she spends all her time at the salon, bitching at Jon and her housekeepers (!!). Since when does Kate have housekeepers? I serioulsy don't consider Beth, Carla or Nana Janet a housekeeper. She does have someone come once a month to clean the house. Wow, biiiiiig spender!! lol

About Beth, i'm not sure which house you are referring to. The house they moved into i believe is the house they showed on the episode when they were filming the new opening scenes. Its the house that at the top of a big winding road hill.

Yep, that's the house I'm talking about.

I thought they were in Reading, too, until the WDW episode where Jon says he has to pick up the trailer in Reading.

If you thought the above link was bad, check out what they're saying here. These people make us on GC look like saints!

SoCalGirl 06-17-2008 06:12 PM

Why did so many people say that Kate and John live in a "mansion"? Their house is far from a mansion. It's not even a McMansion.

Wow. One of those people even said something like, "How about the way she abuses her kids and her husband?"

From what I've seen, she's far from an abusive parent, I mean unless you count "time-out" as abuse.

They also keep talking about how she lives in a "mansion." I think they live in a modest home. I wonder where some of those ladies on the above blog live where they think that house is so amazing. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but these people make it sound like she is living it up in the Hearst mansion or something.

Dunno yo, her "stern look" is pretty scary. Just kidding.

Those two are far from abusive, and I'm sure that commenter pulled that one out of her ass.

I had to really LOL at the original blogger who claims having only twins is the same as having 8 kids. I'm sorry but the number of kids is not irrelevant. I'm pretty sure you can do, and afford, A LOT more with 2 kids, than you can do with 8.

I'm not exactly sure what "product placement" there is besides what they are talking about, but yesterday's episode had some of the labels blocked out.

Really though i agree w/ some of the comments---if product placement is gonna help the 8 get through college, then go for it!

ETA: about the "abusive" ways of Kate. I'm kinda tired of hearing people bitching about the way she talks to Jon. yeah she bitches, but i'm pretty sure its something those commenters do as well. Shoot my mom and dad (who are well in their late 50s early 60s) still bitch at each other like Jon and Kate. I like how people keep saying "mansion." In their episodes they show some of the neighboring houses and I think Jon & Kate's house is the most lack-luster of them all.

Ok, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Feeding and clothing 2 kids is not the same as feeding and clothing 8. She should go to the store, and buy a box of cereal, then go and buy like 5 boxes of the same cereal (about what that big of a family probably needs) and see which costs more. She should also go and buy 2 boxes of diapers, and then buy 6, and see the difference.

All I had to do was see the title, "Parenting Squad", to know what I was in for reading that article. One LOL moment, when she blithely said how the # of kids is "irrelevant" when discussing multiples (as though 2 in any way compares with EIGHT), and the irony of her ad-supported blog taking Kate and the show to task for being supported by ads.

Her dad's face might be blurred in the wedding video because (if I remember my TCOM Law & Regs correctly- but it's been 16 yrs since that class) he would have to sign off on having his image shown on TV (since it is not a news/sports program and he would not be an incidental background person). So her parents might not want to be on TV and therefor they legally have to blur out his face.

As for the blog, wow, I think I need to go bleach my brain after reading some of that.

I still love the show and I don't care how many freebies they get.

Oh, I wasn't even thinking that. I was thinking more along the lines of "I'm ashamed of family and I don't want anyone to know how they look like."

I just saw Jon's hair transplant episode and it made me think of the HAIR TRANSPLANTS ARE THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE! thread. I laughed at Kevin's "the things you do for your sister!" remark.

I don't care about how many freebies they get, either. If someone offered me free stuff, I'd take it in a heartbeat...and I know many of you would, too.

When the McCaughey's had the septuplets years ago, they got all kinds of free stuff including a house!

Honestly, they'd better take all the freebies they can get. Can you imagine what it will cost them to send all of their kids to college?

ForeverRoses 06-20-2008 08:47 AM

^^ According to the blog OTW posted, they have college savings accounts or something set up, but still... People were up in arms about that. Seriously, would you rather these 8 kids go to college from college funds set up based on donations or end up deadbeats with no future (which would cost taxpayers more in the long run).

And as a mom to 3 kids, I would love for someone (anyone??) to come and help me with my laundry and fold clothes. And I don't think I have EVER ironed any of my kids clothes. I don't have time! I can only imagine the amount of laundry 10 people produce!

Well the people were upset because the college accounts were set up by the state of PA, and supposedly Jon & Kate deny their existence.

I can't even understand why get sooo upset for little things. Supposedly one person emailed Kate to ask what the kids wanted for their birthday. Kate asked for a gift card to Walmart/Target so that she could get the kids what they wanted/needed when they needed it. This lady (and a lot of others) got soooo upset, saying all Kate want is money & that they are living off the kids yada yada yada.

Apparently I was unaware that Jon is unemployed & that they are mooching off their kids to make money.

Eh, I'd take whatever's said on those blogs with a grain of salt. I've seen some websites where people have posted complete untruths about the family. Beth comes along and puts the smackdown on a lot of it.

ForeverRoses 06-20-2008 03:59 PM

I thought Jon was working either for Bob (Beth's husband) or as a web developer at home. And so they get paid for having a TV show. It's the highest rated show on TLC right now. They had better get paid well! And I don't consider the TV show as living off their kids.

No, they wouldn't have a show without the kids, but some of the appeal of the show is Jon and Kate.

I have tried to watch shows on the Duggars and even the one about the quints (Quint-essential I think it was called) in Illinois, but the adults annoyed me too much to keep watching.

I also like watching shows on the Dilley six-pack as well. And those kids have been on Campbells soup commercials and even a made for TV movie about them.

SWTXBelle 06-20-2008 04:09 PM

Jealousy blogs

Here's an idea - if you don't like Jon and Kate, DON'T WATCH THE SHOW. Seriously, how much time and energy have these people spent working up a good head of steam towards hating Jon and Kate? Get a life, folks!

I'm not a regular watcher of the show, but let me put in my vote that the show should continue until the kids go off to college. Can you imagine high school dating/prom in this family? How about college visits?

In an episode last season, Kate couldn't believe at the number of phone calls the twins were getting at age 7. Jon said, "at least it wasn't a boy..."

I may get flamed for saying this, but I wouldn't be surprised if Joel is gay when he gets older.

I could have sworn that was Collin...I can't remember.

J&K like to say that Joel's into fashion and hair like Daddy. I don't know if it's possible to get that "vibe" from a 4 year old, but that's what I get!
