Congratulations!
|
We had a great night.... after being tackled by my new family we had pictures, then went back to the house and had cake. We got our 'goodie' bags and shirts. We then went to all of the fraternity houses where all the guys sang songs and gave us flowers... we had a great time.
There was a little bit of a ruffle because one of the other sororities did dirty rushing with a large group of girls... basically telling them to suicide and they'd pick them too.... and didn't, so a HUGE number of girls got dropped... it was not only sad for those girls because it ruined the whole experience for them and didn't get placed, but it upset the other sororities on campus.... I'd say they convinced a good 20 girls to suicide... and only took 6. |
First off, congratulations to you and Gamma Phi Beta!
Can/will there be any action taken against the house that dirty rushed? I feel sorry for the girls involved and hope the experience doesn't sour them on sorority life forever. |
Congratulations to you and Gamma Phi!
|
I know they were reported, but the word out last night was that there was an alumnae (spelling??) at pref night and they told the girls that at the pref night party... not the active girls....so b/c someone didn't witness it (girls that suicided told a rho when they called to tell them they didn't get a bid that it was OK and they told her they'd go get her at midnight...) they can't do anything about it???
Is that right?? It just doesn't seem fair that they can "use" the system like that. (not to mention the PNM's that went through recruitment) |
Congratulations to you and Gamma Phi Beta!!!
Hope you enjoy the New Member Period! |
I knew no news would be good news for you! Was this A or E...? I forgot your lettering system :-P
Congrats to you and Gamma Phi Beta! |
It was my A... my top choice all week. When it came down to it, it was a hard choice in the end... but I knew I'd be happy with either one!
|
Yeah for our new Gammie!!!! Welcome to the sisterhood!:D
|

Congratulations to you and Gamma Phi. I am happy you found a wonderful home.
|
Congratulations to you and Gamma Phi Beta! I'm glad you were able to find a chapter to call home, and especially a chapter that you've loved all week!
That really sucks about the chapter that dirty rushed so many girls. I can't believe they would tell them to suicide! What would a chapter have to gain by telling them to suicide? I could see if they were just like "Oh put us first, we love you" (dirty rushing yes, but nowhere near as bad as telling girls to suicide). |
To UWO_2007: Congrats on Gamma Phi! They're a really strong sorority all across Wisconsin, and I'm sure you'll have fun meeting your sisters from all over the state.
To everyone else: I'm reading this thread for the first time, and you guys have been insanely rude to a rushee for no reason once again. For the record, I don't think that the age gap between someone in their mid-20s and an 18-year-old is necessarily a big deal. Maturity gap, sure. But I know 28-year-olds who would fit in just fine in a pledge class of 18-year-olds, and I know 16-year-olds who have already bypassed that stage in their lives. Age ain't nothin' but a number. I don't know how old the original poster said she was, but if she's having a successful rush and getting invited back to houses, it seems clear to me that she's clicking with these ladies on some level. If she was being a condescending buzzkill, they wouldn't be inviting her back. Furthermore, if the rushee is at a Wisconsin system school that is not UW-Madison, it is unlikely that her pledge class will consist entirely of 18-year-olds anyway. Many of the system schools have smaller Greek systems with less traditional pledge classes. Sure, there will be plenty of 18-year-olds, but there will also be a decent amount of upperclassmen and juniors rushing, both transfer students and non-transfers, and it's not out of the ordinary for these students to be older than is traditional for students to be. I rushed at Madison, the biggest and most traditional Greek system in the state, and my pledge class was still almost half sophomores with a smattering of juniors. I really wish people would not try to speak for campuses where they aren't familiar with the Greek system. |

I'm glad things worked out for you & you found a home in Gamma Phi Beta.
And I agree w/ AOIIAngel -- none of the posts were meant to be ugly or rude, just a warning that groups may/may not be able to pledge her or that she may find it hard to identify with 18 yr olds. Then there was some concern over some of the comments the OP made about wanting to work with them as a counselor type, but I think all that got cleared up too? |

I'm not saying that every group will ignore age like mine did, but age tells you way less about someone's maturity level than I used to think. ________ KATVLAROP CAM |
Congrats and welcome.

Congrats to you and welcome to our sisterhood!!!
My chapter had a member who was a senior when I pledged; she was in her late 20s, married, with two children and was SUPER involved. She even allowed us to use her home for events, which was IMHO above and beyond the call of sisterhood. Reading your story I'm sure you will be an amazingly valuable sister! Congrats again! |
