To Lucky Shamrock

You work at Sonic? What happened to their piccalos? That was my favorite menu item (way back in high school) and I actually had Sonic for the first time in YEARS not too long ago and they didn't have any piccalos!!!!

Nichole

It's always reassuring when someone who has worked at a restaurant still eats there. I've known too many people who, once they see it on the "inside", refuse to eat there. But, that's a whole 'nother thread. ;)

So, looks like I can continue eating Sonic.

Oh, and by the way, I've never had Ocean Water. The name of it sounds so completely unappetizing that I've never had the guts to try it. I've been waiting for them to introduce Pond Scum or something equally gross sounding. But, I guess it's tasty.

Buttonz 06-16-2006 01:49 AM

We see ads for them all the time up in RI but there isn't one anywhere close by. Same iwth Red Lobster.

I think think think I ate in one back in Toronto in '97, but I could be wrong (probably am). I'd love to try the food

cutiepatootie 06-16-2006 10:05 AM

yummmm

I thought i posted in here but i guess not. Yeah i miss sonic and when i see those commericals here in so cal on Dish sat. i get hungry. I remember those from my college days in arkansas and living in Oklahoma city. Rt 44 cherry limeaide.....YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! or a sweetheart shake. But those coneys ( hot dogs ) and cheese tots:):)

I get a sonic craving i head to In and Out

Xylochick216 06-16-2006 02:22 PM

I love Sonic. I've never had anything bad from the restaurant. My favorite thing is being able to get a REAL cherry Coke. Nothing beats that :)

KSUViolet06 06-16-2006 02:28 PM

I'm in northeastern Ohio and although I constantly see the commercials, there's no Sonic here

flirt5721 06-16-2006 02:38 PM

Sonic is the best. I love their slushes. Especially their Limon-Berry slush.

UofISigKap 06-16-2006 02:46 PM

I keep waiting for Sonic to be here. The middle of Virginia along 95 has been developing like mad for the past few years. There have been at least three HUGE elaborate shopping centers/beasts that have exploded in the last four years, and more are on the way. Two of which are under significant construction still. You would think with all the devopment we'd have a Sonic coming. So far, no... When do I get my cherry limeade? Where's mine!?

MaryAmanda 06-16-2006 03:26 PM

You know, we have plenty of Sonics here in Georgia, but I had never eaten at one until about a month ago. I didn't know what I was missing! They've got some of the best fast food burgers out there. Almost as good as Checkers... :)

DolphinChicaDDD 06-16-2006 06:34 PM

OMG I TOTALLY MADE MY FRIEND GO TO SONIC WHEN I VISTED HER IN GEORGIA!!
The commercials are ALL OVER NJ, despite the closest location being in one of the Carolinas (I think, maybe even Virginia). So I made her go. I was not dissappointed for a fast food place.

Kinda reminded me of Checkers.

KillarneyRose 06-18-2006 12:06 AM

Wow, this is an old thread but definitely worth reviving!

I eventually did get to try Sonic a couple of years after I started this thread. My husband was doing a monthlong Navy stint in Memphis, TN and I found Sonic when I went down to visit him.

I fell in love with both Sonic and Tennessee that week :)

AXi1257 06-19-2006 09:03 AM

I haven't had Sonic for SO long! We don't have any close by, but when I lived in Kansas I went there all the time! Nothing better than a real cherry Coke or cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper! It was all pretty darn good!!

Xylochick216 06-19-2006 10:20 AM

We definitely have them in Virginia :) Thank God for Sonic.

Where we will be moving, there will be one about 20 miles away

adpiucf 06-19-2006 12:00 PM

I've never had Sonic.

AlphaFrog 06-19-2006 01:06 PM

There's one down the street from me. We hardly ever go there because they're slow. The food is ok, and the prices are ok, but it's nothing special. Except the limeades. A Med. strawberry limeade is like $0.69 cents with tax.

tunatartare 06-19-2006 01:14 PM

Ok I'm from New York where there isn't a Sonic nearby for hours. Yet for some reason they put their commercials all over our tv stations. I gotta ask why? It's not like I'm gonna see their commercial and go "oh that burger looks good. Let me drive down to North Carolina to get one." If anything, I'll see it and go "ooh that burger looks good, let me go to the McDonald's across the street."

AlphaFrog 06-19-2006 01:18 PM

Ok, I just looked for the hell of it. There are 6 Sonics within 20 miles of me.

The closest Sonic to NYC is around Lancaster, PA. See...it's not THAT far.:p

I looked it up on mapquest. Lancaster, PA is three hours from my house. The McDonald's across the street from me is still closer.

tld221 06-19-2006 01:33 PM

funny, because, as another New Yorker, ive seen commercials for Sonic, Checkers, and for some crazy ass reason, In-n-out. There are a few checkers in LI. The only Sonic i've been to is in South Carolina. and when i went to LA, i BEGGED my friends to go to In-n-out.

moral of the story: don't believe the hype. they all are mediocre at best.

Sonic's burgers are flavorless and are small. and i think they put mustard on their burgers.
Checker's - same thing.
In-n-out - the milkshake was thick, but warm. the fries are supposedely "fresh" but just taste like nothing. and the burger, again was just mediocre. and those who say its "cheaper than regular fast food" lied, because it is just as much as a Mcdonalds or BK meal.

however, i just came from Baltimore and had Mcdonalds, and why was it AMAZING?! the burger actually tasted like a burger, and the fries were crisp, not too oily at all. and yes there was mustard on the burger.

(which apparently is done EVERYWHERE ELSE except NYC, according to the person who took my order when i went back to them screaming "WTF is there mustard on my burger?!")

KillarneyRose 06-19-2006 02:34 PM

For you metro New Yorkers out there...

When I was a kid and my cousin's family got cable television for the first time one of the stations they got was WOR channel 9 out of New York. I always saw commercials for Carvel, which they didn't have where I lived, and I was obsessed with the idea of ice cream cakes!!!

I think that, in the back of my mind, that the real reason I moved to NYC after college was so that I would have access to Carvel

You think that a burger from McDonalds is better than In N Out? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I think you're the first person I've ever come into contact with who does not enjoy the wonderfulness that is In N Out. You prefer a puny frozen hamburger patty on a cold bun with a little squirt of ketchup and mustard, a sprinkle of onions, and 2 pickle slices over an In N Out double double with two slices of melted cheese, secret sauce, fresh lettuce and tomato slices, and grilled or fresh onions on a fresh toasted bun? You must have gone to a bad one or something.

On the topic of Sonic - I love their mini banana splits! I still need to try the Chocolate Caramel one.

funny, cause everyone i know from the west coast recommended a "double double whatever whatever" and it was just meh.

that's not to say i think mcdonalds is better, cause ive had some horrible McD. im just saying one isnt better than the other.

Dionysus 06-19-2006 08:17 PM

Have you guys tried Steak & Shake?

I don't like burgers, but I like everything else they have, just like sonic.

The milkshake was thick, but warm? How is that possiblay?

Burger was mediocre!?! In N Out...mediocre? You need your taste buds checked lady!

I'll agree that their fries suck though. They are fresh, but they suck. I'm not sure if anyone said if it is was cheap or whatever, but it is more expensive than any other regular fast food place. I think In N Out is hyped, not because of media or anything (seriously, they don't advertise that much as other fast food places), but they are hyped by word of mouth. Grassroots baby.

That's another place that I wish we would get out here. I love their milkshakes and skinny fries.

MaryAmanda 06-20-2006 12:01 AM

Oooh, I love Steak & Shake. It's great for a late night milkshake-fix!

There's no In-N-Out 'round these parts, and I've never seen one while traveling around the country either...but I've definitely heard of them.

Xylochick216 06-20-2006 10:07 AM

Ugh, I can't stand Steak & Shake. There was one near my university and I ate there twice. It was disgusting both times. I prefered milkshakes from Cookout. Now THAT place is heavenly :)

We don't have Sonic, Carl's Jr/Hardees, Waffle House, White Castle, Checkers, Steak and Shake, or In n Out in Seattle, but that's OK because we have our three beloved local chains, Burgermaster, Kidd Valley and Dick's! The first has car-hops, and the last doesn't do any special orders and still takes only cash.

I do miss In n Out from my college days, though. When I visit Calif. I make a run.

ziasha07 06-06-2007 08:08 AM

I love Sonic! A few years ago they just started popping up all of a sudden! It's great. I love their food. There are around 6 within 10-15 miles from me. Nothing beats a double cheeseburger and medium fries (I'm a Dollar Menunaire) from McDonald's though. I mean Sonic's burgers are pretty freakin good but I love McD.

Here we have Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, McD, Sonic, Carvel, TCBY, Chilk-Fil-A, Hardees, KFC, Popeye's, Subway, Quizno's, Blimpie', Schlotzky's, Fazoli's, Sbarro, and a few others.

We don't have Sonic here in Annapolis, Maryland and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what areas DO have it? Just curious and, yes, perhaps I DO have too much time on my hands! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

hahaha YEAH. They make it look SO delicious! The closest one to me is like 2 hours. Definitely not going to make that drive just for Sonic's.

I totally thought the same thing about the shake.
I disagree about the price. I think In N Out is generally cheaper... but I don't get the double double.. just a cheeseburger...and you have to order your fries "well done" they are crispier that way.. and add salt because they don't. my complaint about in N out though... they are SLOOOOWWW and CROWDED.
