His ADO will start when he signs into the new unit. One year from that day is what he will owe the Army. Is he a Captain. If he is did he take the bonus money?

SthrnZeta 12-03-2007 03:23 PM

Yes he is and no he didn't take the money. He didn't feel it was an adequate amount and not worth the extra time in he'd owe for it.

I'm deploying to the middle east next week, and I need a POA before I leave. It's something I've avoided for years because I'm single but I finally chose my brother. I think it should be someone who you trust and will act in YOUR best interest, which isn't always your spouse ;).

That's very true. I've seen spouses cheat, try to clean the soldier out, and run. That behavior is definitely not in the best interest of the person giving POA.

But I don't think ArmyWife '79 meant that, exactly. We were talking of a girl who was not yet engaged (but is now!! ;)). A single soldier is another ball of wax.

I hope your deployment goes well. Stay low.

Be safe my Greek Brother!

Take care! We'll be thinking of you!

SthrnZeta 01-10-2008 10:13 PM

Thanks, SC! And, no, I do not have POA. But he has given my contact info to the FRG there so I am his contact and we are both on title on OUR new house. I think it's perfectly ok for his parents to have POA for now.

PiKA, good luck over there! Our thoughts and prayers are with you! And thanks for all you're doing!

61 days until my first deployment. BOO.

LPIDelta 02-07-2008 03:57 PM

Well he's still not home yet--in fact, I have no idea where he *actually* is... but what's new about that, right? Anyway--thanks for the celebratory wishes.

Sig Kap--enjoy every minute that you can. Hang in there.

SthrnZeta 02-07-2008 03:59 PM

That's wonderful news! I wish you and him a very happy homecoming!

SthrnZeta 02-16-2008 09:22 AM

J is deploying this week. Please everyone pray for a safe flight "over there" and a safe and soon return home! It looks like about 12-15 months... :(

LPIDelta 02-16-2008 11:23 AM

Hang in there girl... :) The best advice I can give you is to talk now about how you're going to keep your love alive while he is gone. Its easy to let the daily stuff and the mundane, and the idea of not wanting to bother him, get in the way of communicating. And know that there are lots of people here if you need someone to talk to...

Army Wife'79 02-16-2008 12:05 PM

Zeta, you are about to become a military wife, the "backbone of the military". We are the strong ones who keep the home fires burning and don't give our men any stress while they are gone so they can focus on the mission. Keep your letters/emails positive and cheerful and full of "happy happy joy joy" (as we Army wives call it) even if the dog died, kids have the chicken pox and the basement is flooded. This is where your G/F's come in, you call them to complain about the "crap" happening in your life but NEVER EVER the military guy who needs to keep 100% of his brain focused on the mission.
I'll keep him in my prayers along with a lot of my other friends over there.

SigKapAngel767 02-16-2008 04:13 PM

Ladies, we have, without a doubt, the most difficult job in the world. We are the reason our spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends/etc. can do their job. Our sacrifices will never be in vain. I salute you all! 48 days until my first deployment, OH BOY! =-o

Love,
SigKapAngel

So Jonathan left a couple days ago and I got my first phone call this morning. I had missed his call at 6:30 but I turned my ringer up after I woke up at 7 while I was getting ready for work and he was able to call again so I got about 10 minutes on the phone with him! :-) He hasn't reached his final destination yet, sounds like he won't fly out until tomorrow maybe. I hate how it's so delayed on the phone but maybe this well help him from constantly talking over me since he knows he needs to pause! LOL. Next summer can't come soon enough so we can finally get hitched!!

txdiva 02-21-2008 02:16 PM

(((((military spouses, parents, families, all!))))) :D

My husband and I are Air Force veterans; I served from 1997-2007 (separated last October) and my husband served from 1996-2007 (separated last June but went into the Air Force Reserves in July).

I leave for R&R in a few days...I can't wait for 15 days of freedom...its been 7 months since I had a real day off...we work 12 hr days 6 days a week and the 7th is about an 8 hr day...my goal....not to set the alarm clock once.

Coramoor 02-24-2008 10:33 AM

afboiler, Where are you at over here?

Army Wife '79...I wish they gave classes on what you said to my soldier's wives. It has been nothing but trouble since we got on ground. All of the single soldiers are actually quite happy they are single right now!!

Letters in the mail are great to get. So are local newspapers.
