A wonderful wonderful friend of mine from high school is a KKG at FSU! I'll send you a PM!
Congratulations to your daughter!

Congratulations to your daughter and Kappa Kappa Gamma!!!:D:D

Fleur de Lis 08-26-2007 03:56 PM

Yay for another KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA!

I like how she didn't feel she clicked with them at the beginning, but it turned out to be the right fit. Who was the Eiffel Tower?

It actually may be a benefit for Your Girl not to have Roomie and Friends rushing.

No pressure if her roomie has a terrible rush and hers is great, no pressure if roomie gets DD's first choice and DD doesn't, friends who aren't Greek as well as those who are. I think she's got the best of both worlds. Very good luck to her and here's some sleepy dust for you to use in the days ahead. It's hard to be too far to put your arms around them but they seem to do just fine.

House Names

I'm going to go ahead and list all the houses and their French names even though due to lack of details from MyGirl I never even mentioned some of them.

Please remember that anything that may be deemed as a negative remark was simply the impressions of a stressed out 18 year old PNM.

Here they are:
Luxembourg Gardens - AXO
Louvre - ADPi
Disneyland Paris - AGD
River Seine - XO
Arc de Triomphe - DDD
Fountain Saint Michel - DG
Montmatre - DZ
The Concorde - GPhiB
Notre Dame Cathedral - KAT
Pompideu Centre - KD
Champs-Elysees - KKG
Eiffel Tower - PhiM
Palace of Versaille - PiBPhi
Sorbonne - SDT
Orsay Museum - ZTA

Thanks for allowing me to share my adventure with you! I'll be sure to do the same when My Darling rushes next year. :D

Barbara, do you have the stats? How many girls rushed, how many dropped, quota?

I am looking forward to Parents Weekend and seeing all the new girls.

Not yet...hoping to get the stats before the end of the week. I'll post when I do.

Congrats to My Girl and KKG!

Woo! Congrats to your daughter and KKG!

Ok, here's a partial update from FSU.

Quota was 51. ALL chapters made quota. Some chapters took quota plus. I don't know which ones, yet, but when I find out, I'll post.

In browsing last year's Panhellenic minutes, there appears to be an extension exploratory committee forming. So, it appears that a 16th group might join the campus sometime in 2009.

Cane94G8r97 08-27-2007 04:09 PM

THAT IS FANTASTIC

I think its wonderful for the Greek System as a whole that all the chapters made quota. I am always sad to see any chapter struggling because I think in the long run it affects the whole Greek system.

Thanks for the update, Barbara!

Wow! How awesome for all of the groups at FSU! Congrats to all of them and their new members!!! :)

PenguinTrax 08-27-2007 04:23 PM

Yes, this is great for the campus. There were one or two chapters that have struggled the past few years, so it's good to know all their hard work has paid off.

SoCalGirl 08-27-2007 10:01 PM

Barbara,

I know SK and Tri Sigma left campus almost 10 years ago. Do you know if either still owns their respective houses?

I know Phi Mu had quota plus 3.
A Gamma Phi Beta came in the store and told me they had quota plus.
ADPi had exactly 51.
I'm not sure of anyone else. I'll post as I hear more.

AGDee 08-27-2007 10:37 PM

That's awesome to hear that all the chapters made quota. I've got to fire off an email to one of my sisters who was a live in leadership advisor to our chapter there. She'll be so excited! She really loved the girls in the chapter and thought they could do it. Woohoo!

AnchorAlum 08-27-2007 11:00 PM

Waaaaay back in the day, we had 18 national GLO's at FSU and I hope that some of these groups will find their way back to our beautiful campus.

I'm so glad to hear that all of our sister GLO's made quota. Go Noles!!!!

The Sigma Kappa house is now owned by the ATO's I believe. It is an absolutely gorgeous Tudor style house built around 1913, if I'm not mistaken.

The Tri Sigs had a newer brick house that was lovely, but I can't recall who's occupying it now.

FSUZeta 08-28-2007 07:48 AM

sigma delta tau is in the tri sigma house.

PenguinTrax 08-28-2007 08:32 AM

And both housing corps still own the houses to the best of my knowledge. The Sigma Kappa house is right behind the ZTA house and has had a number of fraternity tenants since SK left campus in 1999.

Wouldn't that be grand? The size of the incoming classes keeps climbing, as does the quality. They said this year's cumulative GPA was the highest ever for an incoming class.

I just received an email from the recruitment advisor for AXO at Florida. She says quota was 55 (which is different from what we've heard in this thread... no clue who is right) and they matched quota plus 3 for a total of 58.

I'm glad everyone made quota! That's fantastic.

greeksup 08-28-2007 11:12 AM

Any other news with Uof F recruitment?

Any other news with Uof F recruitment? How did other houses do? Is there a list out?

Ocalagirl 08-28-2007 11:56 AM

I was wondering the same thing...

Much of this thread is about Florida State, not the University of Florida.

Quota at Florida State (FSU) was 51
Quota at the University of Florida (UF) was 55.

That might be your confusion.
Sounds like AXO made quota at UF. Congrats to them!

DMCBlondie 08-29-2007 01:24 AM

Quota at FSU was 51 and was based on how many PNM's attended Pref Day parties. Houses could only take more girls if they weren't even with their chapter total. For instance, a chapter could take quota plus if their house was not at capacity to make up for missing members.

I just talked to my friend who is a Sig Delt and she is hoping that Tri Sigma is not the house that comes back on campus in the future. Sig Delt had the house professionally decorated (I think) and spent a lot of time and money on renovations. Since Tri Sig still owns the house, Sig Delt is getting kicked out if they come back on campus. That is all way in the future though. There is still at least 2 more votes before anything is finalized (They just finished the Exploratory Committee and I believe there will be a vote for a new chapter and then which chapter it will be).

Ah, yes. My mistake.

ErinIsBadNews 08-29-2007 07:34 PM

Do you have the actual number of girls y'all got. Yesturday one of your members told me it was quota + 5 and then another one said y'all had quota + 11????

Update

Well everyone, we are at the end of September, and I just wanted to give everyone an update.

My Girl is very happy with her new sisters. She is always doing things with them. Funny enough if I press for information, I get the following line:

"Mum, I can't talk too much about it. It's sorority secrets!"

I may not be Greek, but I do know that events of a night out with the girls is not necessarily as you girls say "ritual". ;)

She seems to be having a wonderful time, and being in a sorority seems to have made the transition to college smoother. Several of her sisters are in the same major,s o she has had much practical advice.

My Girly Girl even went to a football game with her sorority. I never thought I'd see the day! Her father is a big sports guy, and she never was interested before. I'm happy so is coming into her own.

We will be going up to visit next weekend. I'm very excited to meet her new friends, and see were she spend much of her time.

As a side note, her twin brother who goes to a different school has announced that he intends to rush next semester. It seems that he has befriended a Pike who has been courting him with the wonderfulness that is fraternal life.

Argh! I hope that goes well. I have even less knowledge of fraternities as I do of sororities, but I do know him. He just keeps telling me that it's not the same. The dues and fees sure are cheaper though! :D

Thank you all again for walking me through recruitment this year. I willbe back next year with my next girl!

Scandia 09-29-2007 08:24 PM

Congratulations to your daughter and Kappa Kappa Gamma!!!

Haha, my D replied similarily when I would inquire about her internship this summer. "It's classified. You don't have a clearance so I can't talk about it." :)
