Does anyone know if there is a website we can visit to see final lists of where each girl pledged?

BamaPhiMu 08-19-2007 02:22 PM

Bid Day is today at 5pm and I hope that all of the girls in my rec group get the house they wanted. Of the 6 girls rushing, 5 of them attending 3 pref parties and 1 of them attended 2 pref parties. One of the girls suicided and I hope she gets a bid at that house. I am not sure what time she would be notified if she did not receive a bid, but it is after 1 pm and so far no dreaded phone call.
Rush at any school is stressful, but it has become more and more competitive each year. Gone are the days of being a "shoe in" if you were a legacy. Your best bet is to have friends and connections on the inside of each house that will pull for you. We as alums can only do so much, the choice is ultimately up to the current members of that chapter to choose their new sisters.
Good Luck to all the new PNM's and their weary families today! I hope they all "squeal" with joy!

Sheesh...what was that kid thinking?

I would have guessed about 5-6 years ago, but if your daughter was there in 2001 and doesn't remember seeing or hearing anything (I'm sure the story got around the rush groups), then it must have been longer than that. Time flies when you're having fun. ;) :D

SECMom 08-19-2007 06:58 PM

OK, its been almost an hour. How long before they'll post on the panhellenic website? My daughter is calling me from church to see if I know anything!

bamaaopi 08-19-2007 07:00 PM

it takes them awhile, i know it took them a day when i rushed in 2003..

BamaPhiMu,
Bids were extended about two hours ago. Have you heard any results from your group of pnms you knew? Right now new members and families are celebrating, but some of us are wondering about recruitment numbers.
A girl I know from our local highschool is a Phi Mu legacy. I am hoping for a wonderful preference and bid for her.
Thanks for any information you can give us.

bamaaopi 08-19-2007 07:03 PM

quota for each house was 80.

Bama_Alumna 08-19-2007 07:40 PM

Actually, quota is 73. Houses were also allowed to take up to 7 "free" upperclassmen, which equals 80, but official quota is 73.

bamaaopi 08-19-2007 07:41 PM

which most do..

My daughter Kristen (DZ at the University of Alabama) is going through recruitment from the other side of the sorority house door for the first time. She is exhausted from the many days of preparation preceding recruitment and the toil of hosting 1,400 plus girls in record high temperatures. It has been fascinating to hear the stories accompanying recruitment. Without violating any DZ secrets, protocol, etc., she has generically told me tales about vomiting PNMs, her "rush crush", frozen air conditioners, voting on PNMs until 5:00 AM, and other equally notable items. Let me also say it is much easier being Sorority Dad versus PNM Dad! All the GreekChat folks are once more providing tons of support to the nail-biters frequenting the forum. Great job, Ladies and Gents! You were in my corner last year and I thank you again. Kristen has enjoyed her experience with DZ passionately, to say the least. Good luck to all the Bama PNMs and their supportive parents!

David (BamaDad DZ)

Yeah! BamaDad -you're back! I am so glad. I loved your posts when I was "still lurking." It's great having a parent's perspective on what it means to be Greek. All pnm's and current active members should have a dad who is as interested in their Greek experience as you are.:)

BamaPhiMu 08-19-2007 11:53 PM

I have just returned from Bid Day at Alabama and it was a very exciting day! All of the girls in my rec group received bids and they are all elated! One of them even pledged Phi Mu! I believe quota was 80, with 73 being freshman and 7 upperclassmen. Congratulations to all the new members and I wish them a happy 4 years in their new homes!

Zillini 08-20-2007 08:23 AM

I've heard that 12 of the 14 Chapters participating in Recruitment made quota. But that is not confirmed.

I do know that my own ADPi made Quota plus 1 Freshmen Quota Addition. Yeah!

FSUZeta 08-20-2007 08:57 AM

congratulations to all the chapters at bama and especially to zillini for guiding her girls to another successful recruitment!

any idea when they will post the bid list?

Gamma Phi

I think there is something like 62 listed for Gamma Phi, but last I heard the number was actually 65, and up to about 70-73 total last night.

MVisKD 08-20-2007 11:46 AM

Update

Of the girls in my "rec group"...
1 pledged KD (yea!!!!)
2 pledged XO
1 pledged Tri Delt and
2 pledged ZTA

All got their first choices and had a fabulous rush!

If any of you watched the Hoover high school Two-A-Days on MTV, I saw that Brittany Benton (the beautiful head cheerleader) pledge AXO! Go Alpha Chi - she was adorable!!!!

bamabelle99 08-20-2007 11:54 AM

Zeta got 81!

Roll Tide!!

Indeed!

I think some of the girls are cut off in this photo, and like I said, the number is even higher than this... :p

The young lady I wrote a rec for this year at Alabama, she dropped out of recruitment before pref. She was released from her top house but she is okay and apparently a bunch of her friends dropped out too.

kelcaopi 08-20-2007 03:44 PM

You know you're bored at work when...

AXO - 81

AOPi - 80
Chi O - 78
Tri Delt - 75

GPB - 62
Theta - 81
KD - 69 (not sure what happened there...)
KKG - 75
Phi Mu - 81
Pi Phi - 79

PenguinTrax 08-20-2007 03:53 PM

SDT doesn't participate in formal, I take it?

Here are recruitment stats from previous years, if anyone is interested:

Gotta love Excel, right?

I know kk_bama mentioned earlier that they got more girls after last night (70, I think). Way to go, Gamma Phi Beta! Go Triad!

I had to rub my eyes when I saw that a girl from Honolulu, HI pledged AXO! I heard rumors of a local girl rushing at 'Bama...we don't get that too often around here. Her alma mater's just right down the street from my house! Hopefully we'll get to meet her at the next APH luncheon!

Yeah as far as I know the number was up to 65, if not 70 or so. They were still snap bidding, as far as I know. Sometimes Panhellenic says they will call these girls and it doesn't happen in all the craziness.

I honestly don't know if we will be actively participating in COR ... even if we didn't hit official quota of 73, 65-70 women is a lot to handle for any chapter, not to mention 81.

banditone 08-20-2007 04:07 PM

Holy Crap, they're going to have to build those girls Skyscraper houses soon.

BSCAXO 08-20-2007 05:03 PM

KD

Does anyone know what happened with the KD numbers? That's low and surprising. I heard they invited back only 150 on pref and most invite back 200? Not sure about that though as I know KD is usually a much desired house. Perhaps they wanted smaller numbers and just certain girls?

I think this is correct. The larger houses are starting to get so big that they cannot handle the logistics of conducting chapter meetings, housing the girls, etc. I think quality of life is diminished when there are so many girls!

Jill1228 08-20-2007 05:41 PM

I see one local girl (in my area) went Phi Mu :)

ZTAmillz 08-20-2007 06:00 PM

I am so happy. The girl I wrote a rec for is now a GPhiB!! Not too bad for a girl from Philly! I was so nervous for her after reading all the posts about northern girls going through a southern recruitment like this.

She emailed me this afternoon and said it was a TOUGH week but so worth it since she is now a GPhiB! It was great to see her find her sorority home.

Congrats to all the New Members!

Great Job ZTA for quota!!!

As far as I know, KD is still as good as it always was - but then again, I am biased! :) We made quota all 4 years but that was back when 45 girls was ALOT!!! I honestly hadn't heard that KD didn't make quota, b.c the girls I have talked to said that they got the "best pledge class in 4 years" and that every single girl they really really wanted ended up on the lawn. I will try to investigate! :)

MVisKD 08-20-2007 08:41 PM

KD

I will also say that KD is usually very selective and aren't scared to release a lot of girls!! Maybe they released too many and then some girls they invited back cut them?

OleMissGlitter 08-20-2007 08:46 PM

GO AOII! I'm so happy for Alpha Delta Chapter :)
