I think that Faith4Keep put Red as her #1 and orange as #2.
Go Red! And, good call not going into work today! Watch Dr. Phil for me! :p |

It's different when a PNM is interested in a chapter because of the values, programming, etc associated with the national. From what I've gathered, this is what the driving force behind how most NPHCers choose their GLOs. |

1) Red 2) Orange and a Bid at Orange Let me tell you, I cried like a little bitch at my pref for my org. from the minute I walked in the door. I had pledge sisters who were at my pref. say that they were like "what's wrong with that girl". I made the sister who was preffing me cry! Crying at pref. is usually a good sign. (LOL-I still have mad love for my good sister who had to take my ultra-snotty tissue from me since I couldn't leave with a napkin! "Rush infraction!") |
BID DAY!!
...
|
i felt your excitement as i was ready about your bid day! a great story!congratulations.
but i also noted that npc rules state that on bid day there should be no men or alcohol-how did(or does) ucf get away with that? |
:) Yay!
|
I really enjoyed your story since I was there. It was very well written and I am glad you found your home in Theta. I knew a couple of pledge class sisters and they were great. Have fun with rush this year:)

As for the men, the fraternities usually just hang around to see the girls run down Greek Park, congratulate them, and then leave so that each sorority can start their Bid Day festivities with their new members. It is/should be widely known on campus that alcohol should not be a part of Bid Day, so I don't have an answer for that one. |
Congratulations to you and THETA!!!
|
YAY FOR KAPPA ALPHA THETA!!! :D:cool:
I have an old childhood friend that is a Theta at a school up north. |
Just because the rented out a bar doesn't necessarily mean that they had alcohol. Maybe they needed a "fun" type of environment with lots of space and that bar was a good option.
|
I absolutely LOVED your retro-recruitment thread! I'm so glad you found your home.
And the sorority bar thing-most of the sororities at my school do that as well. Mostly for space issues and the environment, plus they're pretty strict on the sisters under 21 about drinking. |

Yay for KAQ!
|
Just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed reading your thread. It was fun to read a recruitment story that ended up with Theta!
|
wasn't hating on the thetas or ucf, but i was surprised about the men on the lawn, interacting with the women and holding a bid day celebration at a bar, although the type of venue where bidday celebrations are held is usually dictated more by campus culture than anything else, so i would imagine that others did so too. i am a recruitment advisor and it is drilled into our heads, and consequently the collegians heads, that those two things are big no-nos.
and yes, they really are in the green book. |
Bid Day and Bid Night are dry at UCF. The chapters go out to celebrate around Orlando at dinners or attractions like House of Blues, Planet Hollywood, Disney Quest, Hard Rock Cafe, etc.
These are sisterhood events. The fraternity guys hang around outside of the sorority houses when the new members make their run down Greek Park. Outside there is a lot of chaos as the new members join their chapters, find their Bid Day Buddies and take photos with a professional photog. Some chapters rent a bouncehouse or get a local radio station to park their party bus and broadcast from the street. It's a lot of fun to run across the street and take photos with your friends in different chapters! The fraternity guys fade out once the Bid Day festivities move into the actual houses. They aren't part of the actual Bid Day... they just traditionally park themselves outside the door of the Homecoming Partners/Girlfriends/Lil or Big Sis's chapter to hang out for a little while and congratulate the chapter on a great recruitment. ETA: a lot of other schools get really dressed up for Bid Day. At UCF, Bid Day is split into two parts. Actual Bid Day is super casual with t-shirts and shorts-- this is the first time you get to wear a letter t-shirt!!! :) After a break where everyone goes home and changes into cute dresses, we all go out to dinner. It isn't unusual to run into another sorority celebrating their Bid Day at the same venue. |
PS: I totally knew Blue was ADPi!
We've been doing the same door song on Day 1 for a very long time... 11 years that I know of, possibly for the last 25! :) |
i loled when i read that some chapters rent bounce houses-my first thought was no wonder those men aer hanging around!
|
Welcome to the sisterhood!!!!!
I just went back an re-read the thread knowing which chapters were which, and I knew most of them before your reveal. Somethings just dont change!!!! Congrats !!! |
Some things never change... others do!
|
Great story! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on Theta!!!!! :)

You should definitely still have a candle pass. Our chapter has had sisters that were so close to engaged that any time a candle pass was announced, sisters were looking at their hand for a ring! They still had a candle pass, so you should too! |
can i get a definition of what a candle pass is?
|
It varies a little from sorority to sorority and from campus to campus, but generally when a sister gets lavaliered or engaged, a candle pass is held. The sister will privately tell the chapter president that she needs a candle pass, and with my chapter they were generally held right after chapter meetings.
We would gather in a rather large circle, and a lit candle (fake, unfortunately) would be passed from sister to sister while we sang a Kappa song. The candle would be passed once for a lavaliere or twice for an engagment. (TrueBlueKappa, correct me if I'm wrong cause I can't count!) When it arrived at the sister who the candle pass was for, she would blow the candle out. (Or in our case, turn the candle off.) It's amazing how much less romantic a candle pass is with modern technology. :D |
