Was this episode on TV yesterday?
I think I overheard something about this while my hubby was watching it

No need to start a new thread about this. I heard of the term of LUG and BUG the other night on MTV. It supposedly stands for Lesbian Until Graduation and Bisexual Until Graduation.

Has anyone heard of this? Or know women who were LUG/BUGs? I find this strange, because half of the lesbians I know were actually "straight" during their high school and college years, not the other way around. Are these the same girls who do it because it is trendy? Or were they geniunely lesbian or bi and went straight because they thought they'll catch more drama in the "real world" for their orientation?

I had a friend who was a BUG in college

Also - I was a "Fruit Fly" in college.
And I did a report on GID for one of my Psychology classes

According to one of my friends, who has a lot more knowledge about LGBT issues than I do....the Kinsey Scale is based on experience, and not desire.

If that is true, I don't find the Kinsey Scale valid at all, if experience is supposed to dictate your orientation. That would put me at 0, eventhough my sexual attraction to the opposite sex is relatively low.

What is a fruit fly?

I would assume it is one who flies around fruits (i.e. homosexuals) with frequency.

Now that you say that, I remember a L&O:SVU episode about that. How the parents chose to make their baby a girl and get rid of the extra, um, appendage - and apparently they chose wrong...

This thread is interesting. As for the intersex issue, my husband is a pediatric endocrinology fellow at Johns Hopkins where he works with Dr. Claude Migeon, an expert in "ambiguous genitalia." My husband was quite shocked to become "that kind of doctor" but says that the diseases that cause ambiguous genitalia are fascinating. The experts still recommend that most of these patients be assigned the female gender, and despite all of the popular media displaying story after story of bad outcomes, the truth is that the VAST majority of these people go on to live fulfilled, happy lives as women whether or not they are genetically male. There is a slightly higher rate of homosexuality and transgender issues in these assigned females than in the general population, but these cases are heard from more than the 98% who are fine. In the end, reconstructing male genitalia is nearly impossible with very poor surgical outcomes. That is why they assign female gender most frequently. This is a very, very complicated medical condition, but the medical community does its best to give these patients a normal life.

As for "fruit flies," I'm a proud "fruit fly" since I'm close friends with three gay men who I consider family.

As for the Kinsey scale, I'm a Kinsey 0. Sorry, ladies, you don't do it for me at all!
