Yeah, that's the one...I hate that one with a passion.

LMAO at GP's Dan Fogelberg distaste. Where the heck does he live that he buys a 6 pack at the liquor store? (unless he means a 6 pack of Thunderbird bottles, which makes the song almost cool)

Due to the ever-earlier pimping of the season I hate pretty much every Christmas song except church stuff (in church) and Sleigh Ride, but Santa Baby by Madonna will be what they play continually in the eighth circle of hell if I end up there.

Although I was privileged to be present at the debut of a new song by a local songwriter called "Merry F&*#ing Christmas." Yes, this is as good as it sounds, and I wish I had a recording of it.

I hate "Little Drummer Boy"

neonsparkles 11-30-2004 02:26 AM

I cannot stand "The Little Drummer Boy" or"Feliz Navidad"
I also hate when a christmas carol that I love is remade be an artist and they turn the song into crap... especially when they completely disregard the melody in favor of yelling a long string of notes.

I have a love/hate relationship with "My Grown-Up Christmas List"... because that song is so horribly cheesy, yet it always makes me sad because I do want the world to be all peaceful and happy lol.

On a positive note.. I love O Holy Night... I will never get tired of that song (although I do cringe when I think about high school choir concerts and people singing the song who clearly should not have been....)

ADqtPiMel 11-30-2004 02:47 AM

Hate. Santa. Baby. Hate.

emleepc 12-01-2004 06:46 PM

Can't stand: The comedy carols---any of 'em---I don't like 'em!

And when somebody records one of my favorites and totally butchers it........AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Dionysus 12-01-2004 06:47 PM

Silent Night

carnation 12-01-2004 07:11 PM

I want to know who suddenly decided that "My Favorite Things" is a Christmas song. In the Sound of Music, it's sung in the summer.

Cosign, big time.

Except The First Noel and O Little Town of Bethlehem, both of which I hate with a white hot passion. blech.

The Dan Fogelberg song makes me all nostalgic, though, and I'm really developing a love for a lot of the songs on Love, Actually.

I am going to gouge my eyes out with a stiletto.

Also I finally downloaded this Dominick the Donkey thing and it's ridiculous.

I can't stand it, can't stand it, can't stand it. It's even worse when the radio station plays the crappy "I hate Christmas" version of it...where children are screaming and men are screaming and babies are crying and the lights don't work etc. URG! It's like they play that right before Christmas just to piss everyone off that has to go out into the malls and so that mood just lingers with them and then they take it out on me when they can't find what they want because they've procrastinated too long~ but that's a whole different retail Christmas story!

For the record, the song is called "The Twelve Pains of Christmas" performed by The Bob Rivers Comedy Group, and I absolutely LOVE that song! I was laughing my butt off when I heard that song, and look forward to whenever my radio station plays it (WSNY-Sunny 95, Columbus, Ohio).

I also love Blue Christmas by Seymour Swine (Porky Pig under a different name)

Songs I hate.

Jingle Bells barked by dogs.

Jingle Bells "sang" by a laughing guy.

Santa Baby by Madonna (Eartha Kitt is THE ONLY one who should be legally permitted to sing that song. She is the best!!)

Santa Claus is Coming To Town, if performed by anyone other than the Jackson 5 or The Pointer Sisters

O Holy Night by anyone other than Mariah Carey (I love how she hits the ultra-high notes).

Jiggety Jig HEE HAW! The Italian christmas donkey!

It's on right now, I can hear the TKE house from my office! :)

norcalchick 12-02-2004 08:18 PM

Any of the ones Jessica Simpson sings. She sounds horrible! She's trying way too hard and trying to be too sexy with that whispery thing she does. She also over ennuciates (Sp?) words. Like Santa Clause. She says it Santa Clows.

I saw a tv commercial advertising her new christmas album and also poked myself in the eye with a rusty butter knife:p

My least favorite song would be Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

abaici 12-05-2004 10:54 PM

That Bing Crosby/David Bowie song creeps me out!

mmcat 12-06-2004 08:47 AM

grandma got run over by a reindeer.
ditto the dogs, add in a few chipmunk carols.

aephi alum 12-06-2004 11:18 AM

I like most carols. It's the other Christmas songs I can't stand...

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Most wonderful time of the year
Jingle bell rock
Santa baby
I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus
Santa Claus is coming to town
Have yourself a merry little Christmas

AUGH!!!

Most of the local radio stations alternate regular pop music with Christmas music between Thanksgiving and Christmas. One station (which I usually like) is playing ONLY Christmas music, 24/7. Looks like I got my iPod just in time... while ya'll are learning all about Grandma getting run over by a reindeer, I'll be listening to 3 Doors Down. :p

cutiepatootie 12-07-2004 05:27 PM

"Feliz Navidad"

Optimist Prime 12-08-2004 06:41 PM

there is a "country" (quotes because Hank Williams would turn over in his grave if heard it) song called "Leroy the redneck reindeer" or something god awful like that. Cristmas Time is Here from Charlie Brown plays all the time at work, so I hate that one the most right now.

carnation 11-08-2005 10:10 PM

Oh. No.

My least favorite carol actually came on tonight. 94.9 has started playing some Christmas music and I turned on the radio just in time , BOOOOOO! to catch the first lines. The family is laughing at me.

My husband thinks that stupid line about scary ghost stories refers to A Christmas Carol....

BWAAAAHAHAHA! My mom adores that song and turns it up every time it's on. I actually can't help but laugh every time I hear it because it's such an absurd song! I'm so hearing the HeeHaw HeeHaw in my head right now. :D

33girl 11-08-2005 10:35 PM

Maybe it's the fact that I have had a couple beers but I am laughing very loudly at this thread. I want to hear the Dominic the Donkey song.

honeychile 11-08-2005 10:45 PM

In all seriousness, if I ever truly go for the one way ticket to Hotel Silly, "Dominick the Donkey" will probably be playing in the background! Words cannot describe how much I hate that song!!

docetboy 11-08-2005 10:48 PM

All of them.

Beanblossom1 11-08-2005 10:58 PM

The song about 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire'. I'm so tired of hearing about Chet's Nuts I could scream. ;)

KatieKate1244 11-09-2005 04:34 PM

That damn "Christmas Shoes" song. I get violent everytime I hear it.

queequek 11-09-2005 11:28 PM

I hate any Christmas songs before Thanksgiving season. Why would you sing Christmas songs in October?!

Last weekend, one of the radio stations was having a "holiday preview listening weekend". Nothing but Christmas all weekend--I was not in the mood, so ditched the station.

I hate Christmas carols before Thanksgiving!

We have a radio station that started playing 100% Christmas music on November 1st. I will not listen to them AT ALL until the day after Thanksgiving.

JennRN 11-10-2005 10:01 AM

What is the "Christmas Shoes" song??
I don't think I've ever heard that one.

And I have to agree with everyone else about playing carols in October or November-last week, one of the radio stations started to play them, and I had road rage. I don't need 2 months of the same songs over and over!!

I have a special reason to hate this song, as it came out a couple months after my daddy died. In fact, I have tears in my eyes as I copy this. You have to put the right amount of whine & pathos into this:

Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time
there I stood in another line
tryin to buy that last gift or two
not really in the Christmas mood
standing right in front of me
was a little boy waiting anxiously
pacing around like little boys do
and in his hand he held
a pair of shoes

and his clothes were worn and old
he was dirty from head to toe
and when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
it's Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and I know these shoes will make her smile
and I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets Jesus tonight

they counted pennies for what seemed like years
and the cashier said son there's not enough here
he searched his pockets frantically
and he turned and he looked at me
and he said momma made Christmas good at our house
most years she just did without
tell me sir
what am I gonna do?
some how I gotta buy her these Christmas shoes

so I laid the money down
I just had to help him out
and I'll never forget
the look on his face
when he said momma's gonna look so great

sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
it's Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and I know these shoes will make her smile
and I want her to look beautiful
if momma meets Jesus tonight

I knew i caught a glimpse of heaven's love as he thanked me and ran out
I know that God has sent that little boy to remind me
what Christmas is all about

sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my momma please
it's Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir?
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while

i hate pretty much all Christmas music. I just cannot stand it. A few songs i like, but not many. bad thing...my mom LOVES Christmas music. she has MULTIPLE cd's with the stuff and will actually listen to it in the car. she's a nut but i love her.

i especially hate when they start with the christmas song before thanksgiving. that is just wrong. so is putting up a tree before thanksgiving.

Sister Havana 11-10-2005 01:56 PM

I'm so glad I've never heard the Christmas donkey song. Or Christmas Shoes. :)

My least favorites:

"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" - It's the most overplayed song of the season!

"Jingle Bell Rock" - I used to like this song until a few years ago, when I was at a restaurant with my ex-boyfriend. We were seated right near the entrance, and there was a motion-sensitive Dancing Santa that played that song if someone walked by. It was a pretty busy night...so we got to hear it over and over and over and OVER...I seriously wanted to throw that Santa out the window.

"Little Saint Nick" - Beach Boys
"Wonderful Christmastime" - Paul McCartney
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" - Mariah Carey
"I'll Be Home For Christmas"

Any Christmas song played before Thanksgiving or after Christmas.
By mid-December I hate almost all of it because I've heard it way too much! :D

kstar 11-10-2005 07:01 PM

Not exactly a Christmas song, but I HATE Adam Sandler's Channukah Song.

It's like he's tone deaf.

Also:

The First Noel
Mariah Carey singing All I Want for Christmas, anyone else is okay.
Happy Holidays
the Christmas song to the tune of Greensleeves
Anything by Julio Inglesias, ESPECIALLY Feliz Navidad

And of course: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I happen to like Grandma got run Over by a Reindeer and Rusty Chevrolet

tinydancer 11-10-2005 10:23 PM

Today the music teacher had all her classes singing Jingle Bells. The library is right next to the auditorium so I got to hear it all day. By 3:00 I was ready to twist off on someone.

Oh my gawwwwd...I think I'm going to go open a vein now.
That's depressing! Nothing like a steaming hot helping of guilt to go along with the holidays.

LightBulb 11-11-2005 12:11 PM

Man, this is hard! I love Christmas music. I'm sure I'll think of some in a few weeks though. :p

I guess "O Christmas Tree"... that one's kind of boring.
