the only colors I dont care to see in the summer months are black and navy. My cousin had her wedding in july a few years ago and she had red bridesmaids dresses and they looked AWESOME! they all carried big yellow sunflowers, and had bright bold colors in their centerpiece flowers (gerber daisies I think... red, orange, yellow, and some bright blue flower, all in red glass vases. looked very summery). I wish I had pictures, i should go creep her FB page and see if she has any...
I say, go for it, and dress it up with bright accents! (though i'm not sure i would use red roses for the bridesmaids... in traditional pictures, it would be hard to see red roses against a red dress. but the bride in white could carry them and it would tie everything together!) |
Meh. I'm not really a fan of red, but it of course is YOUR event and you as a couple should do whatever you want.
|
You could use brighter shades of red (think 4th of July) as opposed to deeper shades to make it more summery. But at the end of the day, I think it's your wedding and you should choose colors that make you and your fiance happy. :)

this is a wedding i went to last year, and I loved the color theme. white and green, with accents of a soft pink... looked great!

I've seen a zillion red weddings in summer. (ASA sisters, duh ;) ) As long as you don't use crimson velvet, it'll be fine. Don't have the maids carry red roses if they're wearing solid red dresses though.

With weddings, the Golden Rule prevails: Whoever has the gold, makes the rules. If your mother insists on orange bridesmaids' dresses with neon green sashes and lavender shoes, she has to be willing to PAY for the orange dresses, neon green sashes, and lavender shoes - otherwise she can suck it up and deal with the fact that your bridesmaids will wear red. |
I think now-a-days, weddings have become more flexible then ever before..a lot of couples deviate from tradition.
Ive seen PLENTY of red color schemes for summer..I say go for it! Try bright red with teal..its one of those "hot color combos" right now..looks really classy!! Remember, its your day not your moms or anyone elses! Heck my BFF is getting married in November and her colors are baby pink and tiffany blue, that doesnt exactly scream "fall" ya know? Anyways, my colors are navy blue and pink and Im planning an October 2011 wedding. |

We didn't do a theme wedding but we had a fun theme rehersal dinner as an ice breaker. (My family and his family didn't really know each other at all, and we had 38 people in the wedding party... lol.) We did a "Redneck Wedding" dress up contest and ate at a real country themed restaurant that is a lot of fun. Everyone LOVED it. We gave out prizes and worked as an ice breaker.
Our wedding colors were coral and periwinkle-- colors from the Florida sunset. |

But if my theoretical-bridesmaids piss me off, I'm TOTALLY going to make them dress like the statue of liberty, and hold their flowers over their heads the entire time. |
I just saw pics on FB of a friend who was in a wedding down in New Orleans over the weekend. The bridesmaids wore a bright red (like someone else said 4th of July red). It looked great! I think as long as you aren't doing a deep deep red or a burgundy you should be fine! I think a bright red with lots of summer time flowers would look gorgeous!

LOL I know that the current style is the short stemmed, ribbon tied bouquets, and yes, they would have to be carried in a clutch move. But in case you doubt me (I learned this trick from my aunts, one who studied to become a Miss America) (they were both models):
If you work in a city, buy a bouquet of flowers and walk down the street holding them in the one way, then do it again, holding them in another. Men will almost always comment on flowers carried over the arm (Miss America), not-so-much on the clutch or Statue of Liberty style. Or, as my one aunt would say, how would you carry a box of flowers? Up and down? Personally, I think it's that your self confidence level is much higher, but of course, I could be wrong. *** Speaking of colors, I told my guy that, since I've already been married, the only wedding I'm willing to have is a late November/early December wedding. My theory is, the church is already decorated, so I've just saved about $1k in flowers there. I have to find out the colors that his church uses (mine is burgandy & gold, but again, this is for him). I'm thinking either a hunter green with gold and tartan, or light blue with silver and white. There WILL be dozens of crystal snowflakes scattered about the reception and on the cake! |
I think I'm still confused about why I'd want men to comment on my flowers, but I'll just chalk it up to something I'm not getting.
If I ever get married (and sometimes I think why bother) I'm picking my colors based on my colors and not the time of year. |
Whether flowers are carried over the arm or in front of you depends on the bouquet shape and the type of flower. The tulips in the photo above are a "presentation bouquet" - you often see calla lillies held in the same way. However, it would not look right to hold a round bouquet, which is hand-tied and wired, and has shorter stems, in the same way.
For my October wedding, I'm going with fall colors - deep reds, fiery orange, gold and plum. My bridesmaid dresses are "Scarlet." |

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to try out the bright red and teal. David's Bridal has an online app where you can dress up a wedding party to see how the colors look.... Its too much fun. |

I was at a store today, and saw some beautiful Gerbera Daisies. Yes, they look lovely in a short stemmed, ribbon tied bouquet, and they'd look stupid carried over the arm, as there's no "drape" to them. Same with some other flowers. But roses or any other normally long stemmed flowers look so much more elegant when cradled in the arm. For an example, here are two bouquets, in basically the same colors: http://www.hollandavenueflowers.com/...F172_02_EH.jpg http://www.hollandavenueflowers.com/imgs/HWE_34849.jpg Don't you think that the top one looks more elegant? |
I just like the flowers in the top one better. I have no sense of elegance. But I've NEVER seen that sort of bouquet at a wedding around here.
|
After a lot of arm pulling, our wedding colors will be navy and pink. We're not having a theme to our wedding simply because I don't want to get caught up in the details.

Bridesmaid dresses, cumberbunds/ties. Not navy, more of a royal or marine blue. Check the ribbon on the bouquet below for a more exact shade. Accents like napkins. In, um, Azure? For the flowers, I'd like the old fashioned cream, pale pink and white roses, with magnolias or gardenias. Picture the following with pinks & creams instead of all white, green, & purple flowers. At least, something on that line: http://www.yourspecialflowers.com/pb...10876e8d1d.jpg White twig trees as centerpieces with a very slight dusting of glitter, with crystal snowflakes. Of course, we do need to set a date yet - which I won't do until we set a few other things! |
I really like that one ^. I'm really partial to Bells of Ireland though. Here's a pic of my bouquet, which was white roses (for TD), bells of Ireland (proposed to in Ireland and lived there), thistles (for Scotland live/d there) and little sprigs of wheat. My bridesmaids just had plain wheat bouquets.

Christmas season weddings have to be the easiest to plan for decorations. The church was set to go, and since our wedding was so close to Christmas (Dec. 16), the local craft store was having a blowout sale on decorations. We did our entire reception hall for about 50 bucks. Our colors were cranberry, dark mint green and silver. The cake had sugar snowflakes and glittery sugar sprinkled all over it, with an acrylic topper that looked like an ice sculpture of a bride and groom dancing. Wouldn't change a thing if I did it all over again. Except the groom. I would have a different groom...

My sister's doing a peacock theme. Greens, blues, teals, and peacock feathers. I'll let y'all know specifics closer to Sept.

One of my best friends got married the weekend before christmas. it was beautiful! I was supposed to be in the wedding, but I had to drop out as her wedding date was 7 days after my pregnancy due date. (unplanned pregnancy...no idea if i would still be preggo, or have a newborn. i ended up going to the wedding on saturday evening, and going into labor on monday). She had champange colored bridesmaid dresses, with a black sash around the middle. everything was done in black and cream colors. favors were adorable christmas ornaments that said "Tis the season to be married." they had an eggnog fountain, too, which was a huge hit. i wish i had pictures!

Navy/pink must be a really popular color combo right now. The last wedding I went to (4th of July weekend) was a navy/pink wedding too.

IMO, that is navy and fuchsia...I was thinking of doing a more soft pink.
I need those Louboutins in my life...and the money to buy them. |
More like this-ish?
http://www.simplyswellevents.com/wp-...inkandblue.jpg Another really popular color combo lately is pink and brown: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3061/...1c4dc8fb_o.jpg |
Yep! I love pink and brown, but I didn't want to do it because I associate it so much with Gamma Phi.
Pink and gray is also becoming more common as seen here |
