I really don't know much other than the stuff I see girls wearing and what women in the family wear....so my knowledge is limited.

I guess I was surprised to see the old money/new money thing get thrown out. Thought it was rather humorous.

As a lover of the Tahitian Black Pearl, I find the following atrocious and Mr. Yurman should be shot:

I kinda like the first one. Might be nice if the setting was a bit smaller though.

Dionysus 01-11-2007 05:34 PM

I don't understand some guys obsession with classy women. They don't seem like good sex partners. If you're too classy smoke, cuss, fight, and wear cheap jewelry brands...you're too classy to be a freak in the bed.

See over here, the bigger the Tahitian pearl, the better.

If anyone got caught wearing that crap here, they'd get taunted for sure.

I also couldn't help but shake my head at his prices. He's robbing the customers blind for what he charges.

Good thing I get mine straight from my friend's family's pearl farm! :D

tunatartare 01-11-2007 05:41 PM

I got a gorgeous black pearl and diamond ring for my HS graduation. The band is tiny, which makes the pearl look even bigger. :D

Right - but you wouldn't wear it every day...

Well, they do make fabulous men's pieces such as:

The last one looks like it belongs on a Russian mobster talking on his Nokia in Brighton Beach. I personally can't stand jewelry on men. If you ask me, the only jewelry a man should be allowed to wear is watch, wedding ring, cufflinks, fraternity pin. The ex boyfriend had this tacky gold chain that his mom got him one year (that should have been the first sign that the relationship wasn't going to work out) that try as hard as I could, I couldn't persuade him to take it off.

I thought the same thing. :p I bearly buy Jewelery anyway... I'd rather have designer purses and shoes. I lose jewelry all the time, and I get more use out of purses and shoes.
Although I do own Tiffany's silver AND I still wear it, just not the bracelet and necklace together.

I like jewelry on men. Of course not the type that "looks like it belongs on a Russian mobster talking on his Nokia in Brighton Beach", but something like small hoop earrings and certain types of body piercing is ok. I find nipple piercing on men hot. :o

I think it could probably also work on an NJ Guido. ;)

Of course not. But then, I don't wear any piece of jewelry every day.

macallan25 01-11-2007 07:59 PM

Seriously......you picked out a few things out of a huge selection to base you claims. You are being ridiculous. The cuff links you picked.....there are quite a few different pairs to choose from. I have a cuff link set from Yurman and stud set that look nothing like those, aren't flashy, and are very casual. Honestly though, with the right suit and color combination those would probobly go just fine. The cross?? It is extremely tiny. I didn't even know it was for men. My sister had one when she was mabe 6 or 7. Explain to me what is wrong with a tiny silver cross. If you are a guy wearing most of that jewelry besides cuff links.....chances are you are a flaming homosexual anyways. The only think I would buy from Yurman for myself would be their cufflinks or watches. I like the watches quite a bit along with some from Cartier.

Heres a hideous pair of flamboyant pants from Brooks Brothers. Better stop wearing their clothes because of them.

tunatartare 01-11-2007 08:07 PM

Wow.

I believe those pants belong in the "what is a poser?" thread.

macallan25 01-11-2007 08:11 PM

Exactly, or maybe "throw yourself in a fire if you wear this" thread.

Again, they are disgusting. Brooks Brothers as a whole though (among others) is about as classy and quality as you can get for men's clothing.

GeekyPenguin 01-11-2007 09:35 PM

I think those pants would look quite dapper at a Packer game.

I don't think Tiffany has anything to worry about.Anyone who's been in a Tiffany store knows that silver is only a small part of its collection, and if you haven't been in a Tiffany store, well, you're probably not in its target market anyway.

If I was LV, I would be worried. Girls in middle school carrying an adult purse, just because "everyone has one!"? That's very anti-luxury, and therefore hurts the LV brand. Why does it matter more for LV than Tiffany? Because the bulk of LV's bags and luggage are "signature" bags...there just isn't variety like at Tiffany. I just bought a beautiful, more expensive Marc Jacobs bag because I would never pay $1,000 for a bag that everyone else has. Coach can get away with it because Coach is only marginally "designer"...most of its bags are in the $275-$400 range. I have several Coach bags, but I carry them because they're classic and professional, not to show off. It is not as much of a status symbol as a LV bag is supposed to be. But now LV is no longer a status symbol...everyone has one, or a knockoff that most people probably think is a real one. The LV store on Rodeo Drive sees a ridiculous amount of foot traffic.

You said what I was thinking. :p

 Wow. Anyone who pays $89 for those monstrosities should be tested for color blindness.

I find some piercings hot too. A necklace is different...ear piercings, I'm down with. Even a nipple piercing. The boyf has an ear piercing and wears three different rings everyday, one of which I constantly steal to play with. It's got a spinny band thing on it!

PeppyGPhiB 01-11-2007 11:30 PM

Wow, so I just checked out the prices for the gemstone rings. $3,000-$4,000 is WAY too much for a citrine ring set in 18-karat gold. Citrine is a pretty, but cheap, gemstone. No reason for it to cost that much.

And that's part of my beef! :) Macy's actually has some fun citrine rings that are much more reasonably priced.

PeppyGPhiB 01-11-2007 11:49 PM

I have a citrine pendant and citrine earrings that together were only a tiny fraction of that price.

I really wouldn't want an 18K ring anyway... way too soft. Rings take a lot of abuse. Most of their "gemstones" are of the cheap variety. Totally overpriced and I think most of the stuff is tacky looking. I liked one necklace, but I wouldn't pay $700 for sterling silver with blue topaz. Or $500 for the matching earrings.

Looking at the Yurman website... seems like the bigger the better for them. Rather ostentatious. Lots of mixed color jewels (personally not a fan of, IMO a lot of it is rather tacky), a lot of mixed metal (which I hate! I hate gold and silver colors together on a piece of jewelry).

I'm not THAT picky about jewelry, but there's not much on that site that I'd wear

I've never liked the big gaudy crap that rappers wear because the jewelry overshadows them - people should wear jewelry, jewelry shouldn't wear people. I have no problem with expensive jewelry if it's worth the price, but I think Yurman is paying for a name and nothing else.

Exactly. A class or signet ring (on the right hand if there's a wedding ring on the left hand) is also acceptable. But no more than two rings total.

This is one funny thread. And mac, those Brooks Brothers pants are giving me very scary flashbacks to patchwork corduroy and madras clothes of the 70s and early 80s.

33girl 01-12-2007 12:21 PM

This whole thread is starting to sound like The Official Preppy Handbook v. 2.0.

Considering most of the dudes I hang with don't even wear watches, I don't think I have to worry about this.

You clearly don't understand, Lil' Hannah. I am just laughing at you now. You probably wear JNCOs with Kathy Ireland sweaters. Blaze orange is a neutral, you moron.

Why in the hell do people at Lambeau wear orange? Did they see the light and become Bears fans or what?

Haha, you wish. ;) I think it's because the orange is really warm since they wear it traipsing around hunting so it's the warmest, most waterproof clothing those guys have. When we went to a game, the Conservinator just wore his orange, a sweatshirt, and long underwear and he was roasting....meanwhile, I was wearing a NF, a sweatshirt, a t-shirt, a long-sleeved t-shirt, long underwear, and jeans and I froze. However, I still don't think I'll ever wear orange. ;)
