GL Moderators, aren't racist and bigoted comments a violation of the ToS?

True, many do not know one Greek from another and do not really care.

The main thing is that we are all Greeks of the Social Nature.

While We may have our differences among groups, we still have the Brotherhood/Sisterhood that is supposed to be amongst us.

Many comments are taken and blown out of proportation as such.:o

There will be fights and discusscions between people as we are all just a little/lot different and always will be.

That why for the most part that this is a very wide open site.

A round of applause for you, my dear...because you're not even an American and you know the history!

I wonder where my mom has her copy of Patrick Swayze's North and South?

What I find ironic is that I have at least 2 male ancestors who were Confederate Officers during the War...

Unfortunately, my greatgrandmother who looked like J-Lo when she was young, was too dark to pass...

I am a dis-honor huh? Wow, I dont know how i will continue to live b/c an SAE from Washington has insulted me, oh lord, what am I to do? By the way, My family came from England in the early 1700's. I am 100% WASP. And yes we did have a plantation, but we dont look to highly on that about our history. We are proud that when our rights were threatned of our existence and how we lived and how we functioned as a society, we fought back. Yes we lost, there is no way in hell we could have won, but we fought for what we believed in. Lay off, relax, our beloved south will never be again, we all know this. So why dont you just chill out and understand that there are other people who know whats right and you dont. I respect your wrong opinion.

TopSider 12-25-2006 03:31 AM

Ok guys, we cant screw with yall anymore. If anyone has taken us seriously, you guys are stupid. My brothers and I thought it would be funny to see how mad people get over the internet. Get a life, you guys took us waaayyyy too seriously.

Get a Life. If you couldnt tell we were kidding, you are beyond retarded.

I have traveled a great deal-I will leave it at that.
Besides, you seem to have poor understanding of Greek History as well as US History.
But since you just stated as a fact(?) that your family has been here since 1700's-
what I said about DNA is very true-even if it does not hold true to you:p

There were many Black Confederate soldiers, even officers. Most current blacks tend to forget this.

Elephant Walk;
I support you. This issue just became "main-stream" over the past few years. Civil War News had several articals and Letters to Ed past few months. Prior to that, I have seen Blacks in Civil War Re-enactments wearing Gray.

Just to further round out this history class: Women fought on both sides, Indians fought on both sides as well as against both sides-the war in the West while smaller in scope was just as bad. In fact there was an Indian Confederate General.

Indeed but maybe she assumed that you should assume her ancestors were black. That wouldn't have been a safe assumption but who knows what she assumed that you should assume.

But you're preaching to the choir because "most" current blacks don't forget that fact. The context of their soldier status is well remembered as inequality under the Confederacy, which is why being a "proud" Confederate soldier and waving the Confederate flag is baffling to many blacks.

The "topic at hand" is a nontopic so this thread should evolve into something more informative and/or entertaining.

Possibly in the eye of the beholder?

Many seem to want to gloss over the actual facts and use them as they see fit.

History is History and will always be History no matter how some want to rewrite it.

DSTCHAOS 12-27-2006 04:31 PM

How did I know that Tom Earp was going to run in here and respond to me? :D

If "history is history" then perhaps "more informative and/or entertaining" is not in the eye of the beholder. There is very little objectivity in things that we label as "actual facts."

I don't know. If I label something as an actual fact, my assesment is usually objective. I might omit every single detail because I'm not sure about them, but if I see enough primary evidence, I'll accept some things as facts and not opinions, especially in the scientific realm. Then, it is a fact until proven otherwise. What was the thread about again?

From England, huh? Well, Britain was part of the Roman Empire for some time. You could have some Italian (or even Middle Eastern/North African) in you from way back.

Topshider, you've done it again boy. You have succeeded in distracting grown folks while grown folks are talking. I think your knowledge of history is nill. Your knowledge of our American history, is only reflective of your knowledge of race relations. Sit back and learn son, you are missing some of the gems of life, especially in regards to the gift of 'the melting pot' that you exist in.

We aren't talking the natural sciences here--of course some of that is also subjective and a social construction.

We're talking about "historical facts" of which the exclusion or inclusion of certain details and standpoints can make a helluva difference.

You're right about "historical" facts. "Winners" and "losers" usually have different interpretations about actual events. I do accept actual facts to be true, no matter what the outcome is, if I have did enough cross-referencing. But since history concerns past events, no reenactment can change what happened.

Actually, I think that this country is more of a melting pot than some would like to believe. I mean, I love Chinese and Italian food, Canadian whiskey, and a lot of my clothes are made in Taiwan. Now, it's not like everyone likes each other or anything all sugary, but Americans are influenced by many different cultures. It's not neccesarily a social melting pot but American society does not occur in a vaccum.

:) I'm glad you concluded with this b/c I was about to ask if you were serious in confessing your taste in food and clothing. Melting pot isn't about "liking" anyone or even about cultural influence. Sure, there are Mexicans working at On The Border and I drink Chai Tea almost everyday but who cares? These groups are still identifiable as distinct racial and ethnic entities, and often subjected to inequality under a privileged race and class system, so the U.S. is more of a "salad bowl" than a "melting pot."

My jogging pants were made in China, in case anyone cares.

When a person speaks of the term or phrase "melting pot", they are only speaking of the cultrually mixed affect of the "melting pot". Discussions about this "pot" are not usually the foundation of the socio-econ-political strata and state of being in our country. Nonetheless, we have to with lucid clarity, acknowledge that the "melting pot" exist. This issue of existence,sub-existences, priviledge, and what not, is a whole other discussion.
