Could Jr. Drive a Ford?

While talks between Dale Earnhardt Jr. and DEI continue, officials are now talking with other Nextel Cup teams about a partnership, one which could lead to a switch from Chevrolet to Ford.

Try Robert Yates racing.

Anyone hear about this?

shinerbock 05-06-2007 11:45 AM

Jr. said yesterday that the prospect of DEI switching to Ford was laughable, and that there's no way he's in anything but a Chevy. I think Yates switching is much more likely, despite his comments. However, Ford, Dodge and Toyota are all getting dominated right now, so I imagine Ford wouldn't let Yates go w/o a fight.

Kyle Busch is such a tool. I hate that kid, and he really is dangerous on the track. The only person I think is a more dangerous driver is Jason Leffler.

Sucks about RIR getting rained out, I won't get to see it now.

MJo19 05-09-2007 09:05 PM

Hold on Jr. fans...speculations are that tomorrow during his 11am press conference he will announce he is leaving DEI. Truex is going with him. He and Truex will run next year for JR Motorsports and use Hendrick built engines. Woah. Again this is all speculation, but multiple news agencies are reporting close to the same thing... Can I nominate Teresa for dumbass of the year now?

I nominate her for the same award. She sucks as an owner and she has no clue how to run a business. Jr. and Truex are smart for leaving if this is true. If Big E was still around none of this would be happening.

MJo19 05-09-2007 09:57 PM

Now I have also heard that Jr. will not be announcing where he will go (Charlotte Observer), what he will do next year. Think of him as a "free agent" Wow... Jr. the sport's most popular driver 4 times running a free agent. If Sr. were around DEI would be a little more on top of things. He needs to reach down and smack Teresa upside the head. DEI was built to ensure the success of Sr.'s children...so much for that. I wonder who DEI will try to get for when they leave.

She should try and get Kenny Wallace to race for her. He sucks. LOL.

MJo19 05-09-2007 10:04 PM

Awwww..but I like Kenny. When I was at Bristol he put on a Jr. shirt in front of the Race Day crowd. It was pretty cool. Maybe some of the current Toyota drivers will be fed up with Toyota to go drive for DEI. I am sad to *possibly* see the #8 go. What number will Jr. drive? Is there still a # 08 available?

Yeah, I would hate to see the #8 go too. The only thing about Kenny that's cool is he's funny as hell. Not quite as funny as Waltrip, but he's funny. Most of these guys race just for the money. They don't care about winning. I think about maybe 10% of the drivers today race to win. Back in the day I think the percentage was much higher.

Hey, has Waltrip even qualified for a race this year. He really sucks. LOL. I think the whole Toyota team with the exception of Vickers isn't that good. Dale Jarrett doesn't count. He's just getting old. He won the Winston cup in 99, so he's had his day.

MJo19 05-09-2007 10:16 PM

Again so true. I could see DEI reaching out to a younger driver like Vickers and even pulling at DJ to come over. Poor Mickey. I miss his after race talks where he mentions every sponsor on his car. I enjoyed that. I am just very disappointed the Jr. might be leaving. I can't wait to see what Darrell has to say about this whole situation.

DW is the funniest guy in NASCAR. I laugh everytime he's on. I remember when Ken Schrader was racing the Little Debbie car last season, and everytime he made a pass, DW was saying that Little Debbie is smiling and saying "Great job Kenny." That was funny. Yeah, I remember when Waltrip used to name all of his sponsors on his car. That was hilarious.

I agree, that would be a smart move to pull Vickers into DEI. He's a good driver.

I think the only reason why Jr. hasn't won a championship is because of Teresa. If it wasn't for her poor management I think he would have at least 2 Nextel Cups by now.

I think Gordon is doing well, but I would be surprised if he wins a Nextel Cup this season. The way they changed the the Chase format, I think Johnson will get another one. I never have been a big fan of the Chase format. Yes, it makes it more exciting, but I think it's unfair to the sponsors.

MJo19 05-09-2007 10:32 PM

The only thing that might even possibly hurt Gordo a little bit is the birth of his little girl (I'm rooting for Victoria Lane or Talladega as a name..haha). If he misses a race or two, it could hurt him in the long run when it really comes down to point crunching time. Maybe even get the #00 in at DEI (I am not even going to attempt to spell his last name). I don't know what exactly goes on at DEI, but I agree that the car testing and engine testing have not been up to par. DW is going to get Teresa Saturday night..ooo I can't wait.:D

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. JG will definitely miss some races. He's done. I think Daytona would be a good name for his kid. LOL.

You mean David Ruitiman. I don't know too much about him, other than the fact that he drives the 00 Dominos Toyota. If I were Teresa, I would start getting good Busch series drivers rather than Nextel Cup drivers who really aren't that great. The good Nextel drivers won't leave their teams if they're getting a good car every week. A good Busch driver would be hungry to win or run up front a lot.

MJo19 05-09-2007 10:48 PM

Yes Busch drivers. Maybe Regan Smith, Jason Leffler, or *can I throw it out* Steven Wallace..long shot at the last choice, but I don't' see the #2 at Penske opening any time soon.

LOL. Damn! I totally forgot about Steven Wallace. Good observation. I think he would do DEI some serious justice. He's young and he's got Rusty in his corner. He would be good. I'm not a big fan of Leffler. He didn't do well in 05 for Joe Gibbs at all. He got fired before the season ended. LOL.

That would be cool if Steven Wallace drove the #2, but KB's butt is glued in that seat. What do you think about Newman? I remember when he was winning poles and a ton of races. He won 8 races in 03, now he's not really doing well. I know it can't be him though.

GC member shiner is missing out on all of this. I know he's got a ton of opinions. LOL.

MJo19 05-09-2007 11:13 PM

Hopefully he will share in the comments when he gets on GC. Don't forget about the other Earnhardt son..Kerry. If all else fails they can bring him back. Teresa might get real desperate if her 2 best drivers walk out the door, so she might take anyone..including Leffler. Plus, we all forget about the possible combo with Yates. When the Yates drivers come over, there could be your new DEI. Hmmm..anyone else think this is more then a coincidence and that maybe Jr. leaving DEI has been known in the company for awhile. Is why there is talk of merger? Just throwing that out there....

I don't know that much about Kerry Earnhardt, but I think if he's got the right equipment under him he might do o.k. If TE hires Leffler, she's totally desperate. That guy sucks so bad. If Yates merges with DEI, why would they have to drive Fords? Chevy dominates NASCAR, so I think it would be smart to stick with that manufacturer. I was reading that they would drive Fords.

MJo19 05-09-2007 11:22 PM

I haven't heard of that. I could see where Teresa might want to start totally fresh and new if/when Jr. leaves and that could include a new manufacturer. Maybe there is some contract thing with Yates and Ford. I have not read anything info on that.

I've got an article on it. I wish there was a way I could scan it and post it. It's just speculation though. I think Jr. should carry the 8 over with him though. That's like Big E with out the 3, King Petty without the 43 and JG without the 24.

PrettyBoy 06-03-2007 07:34 PM

Newman got the pole at Dover. Who do you think will win the race?

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-03-2007 07:37 PM

As much as I hate to see it, I am betting on Hendrick domination (in the form of Gordon). Even though I would love to see a Dale Jr. victory or even a Tony victory, those dang Hendrick boys have this COT figured out!

PrettyBoy 06-03-2007 07:41 PM

Yeah, the whole Hendrick team is good at Dover, but I'm not sure about Casey Mears though. You're right, I think Newman will fall to the back and a Hendrick car will win it or maybe even Jr. because he's good there. To break it down though, I think Johnson is going to take it home.

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-04-2007 01:31 AM

I'm thinking Gordon if it is a Hendrick driver winning.

PrettyBoy 06-04-2007 01:37 AM

I'm glad it got rained out, because I had a ton of work to do Sunday, but I'll be watching it Monday at noon.:)

I would like Gordon to win. He's been my driver since his rookie year 93'.

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-04-2007 02:23 PM

They just came on and said Bill France Jr. died. How sad. He seemed like a great guy (not to mention he was vice chairman of NASCAR and is credited to really helping the sport become what it is today).

I'm not a fan of NASCAR, but it's incredible what he was able to do with the sport. He really oversaw so much of its growth, to its popularity today.

May he rest in peace.

Thetagirl218 06-04-2007 11:56 PM

I finally found a NASCAR thread...I am so glad!!! I have been born and bred a Gordon fan!!! I remember when I was a little kid, sitting and watching the race with my dad and rooting for Gordon!!! Great Memories!

Nowdays, I like most of the drivers that are not total ^&^%&%^. Two of them today decided to be jerks again....Did anyone happy to see the little tiff Kurt and Tony had? I honestly thing both of them should have been blackflaged, not just Kurt. I am glad a rookie won again! It is great to see new guys winning the races.

Oh and of course...

Rest in Peace Mr. France, you did so much for our sport!

Bill France Jr. 1933-2007 rest in peace.

Yeah, Gordon is the man. I saw the race today, but I don't think Tony did anything wrong. The front of his car was already committed and then Kurt got into him. Kurt was dead wrong. I think he's an arrogant prick. It was cool to see Truex Jr. get his 1st win in cup racing, but he's not a rookie.;)

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-05-2007 01:26 AM

I really don't like any of the Busch brothers.

PrettyBoy 06-05-2007 08:41 PM

I don't like Kurt. He's a dick. When Jeff Gordon retires, then Kyle will be my driver. I see a ton of talent in him. His driving style reminds me of the young Jeff Gordon. I've been following and studying NASCAR since I was 6. I watched Kyle and Jeff as rookies and I can always tell when a driver is going to be good. Kyle just needs to mature a lot more and then, Watch Out!:)

shinerbock 06-05-2007 08:44 PM

Kyle Busch is a danger to everyone on the track. The guy is an absolute moron.

Yeah, I agree. Kyle's dangerous right now, but I think once he matures he'll be awesome.

Does anyone ever watch the truck series races? I would like to but I don't have the speed channel.

PrettyBoy 06-10-2007 01:17 AM

NASCAR's older drivers gotta go.

Everytime I watch a race, I often wonder why these old drivers are still racing? Well, of course they drive for a paycheck, but why do the owners even keep them employed? They're past news. Years ago NASCAR was made up of older out of shape drivers, but now it's a young man's game. Drivers 40 and older still make up a healthy portion of the 43 car field in any given race. Think about it, at the start of the 2007 season, 15 such drivers were in full-time rides, including three. Dale Jarrett, Ricky Rudd and Ken Schrader who happened to be 50 or older. While visits to victory lane by the group may not have completely dried up, such appearances have certainly become less frequent. Dale Jarrett is the sports most recent winner from the over 40 crowd, when he won at the fall Dega race in 2005. Rudd hasn't won a race since 2002, and Schrader since 1991. I would say Mark Martin is the only old driver who is still successful. Not only has he qualified for the Chase three consecutive years, but he led the points after three of this years first five races, and like Jarrett he hasn't had a victory since 2005, but he's the only older driver who can give the younger drivers a run for their money.

I think it's a changing landscape, and one that's vastly different from a number of years ago, when veterans ruled the sport. It's not like that anymore. In 93' Jeff Gordon was the youngest driver in the sport at the time, and after 94' Big E, NASCAR's most dominant driver before Gordon wouldn't win another championship. Back in the day drivers had to earn good cup rides with experience. Now younger drivers with less experience are given top notch gear from superior teams. I think Gordon is a good driver, but a lot of that is because he was given good equipment. Big E didn't start off with great equipment. He earned good rides and worked his way up. NASCAR is just a different sport now than it was 20 and 30 years ago.
