Also, if the parent did not want their child paddled, there was a list of student's names indicating that. Anytime I am called tothe principal's office TODAY, my heart skips a beat. :o :D Today, there are too many EXCUSES being handed out. In the real world, those excuses mean NOTHING. The child suffers and it's a moster that the parents create. Once it is created, it becomes hard to manage. Enough of that! It's Friday, alrighty! LOL |

The parents whose kids were well behaved didn't have to worry either way, because their kids don't need the paddle. Also, not to hijack, but I remember a time when what the teacher said to the parent was gospel...if the teacher told your parents that you messed up, you messed up and were punished at home. Nowadays, it seems like the "that teacher is out to get my child..my BABY couldn't have possibly done whatever it was they are accused of" sentiment rules. |
I think corporal punishment is a different subject. I would be totally against it except for in extreme cases. I think children are punished for being children enough as it is. Things mentioned in this thread are great examples.
Yes, there is a such thing of teachers disliking children. I have had several of them waaaaay before I became a troublemaker. It got so bad that I switched schools in fourth grade. There were things happening in the classroom, and the teachers did absolutely nothing about it. An example, there was a boy who was twice our size who liked to go around picking on girls. This guy only got in trouble only when certain girls complained.  I was not one of them. My mother and grandmother complained about these teachers constantly, and the principal did nothing either. Eventually she said "there's an opening at so-and-so school, maybe your daugher would be more happy there". There's no way I will trust some of these teachers with a friggin' paddle. |
