However, due to some comments made about my identity I have chosen not to post my story. I honestly don't feel that it is safe for me to share my opinions on this forum. I don't see anything wrong with that. I honestly hope that most sororities don't treat all PNMs this way.

I was at UCLA on Sunday and all the ladies have banners and balloons outside of their houses and were practicing on the steps :) Very cute! I was in town visiting some friends and had the chance to attend our Alumnae Preview. Good luck to CAGirl and all of the UCLA chapters!

Natalie Portman in a sorority?

Am I misreading here? Are these actresses Greeks or are you just using their names to correlate to houses?

quote=CaliforniaGirl7;1325146]It's not difficult at all to figure out where I go to school. But like I said, there are so many girls rushing nobody is going to know it's me. I decided to name my houses after my favorite celebrities. This is Southern California afterall!

So here they are:

Reese Witherspoon - legacy through sister
Jennifer Anniston - legacy through mom
Natalie Portman
Mischa Barton
Rachel McAdams
Scarlett Johansson
Sarah Jessica Parker
Beyonce
Gwenyth Paltrow
Cameron Diaz
Kate Hudson

I'm getting so excited. Thanks for your support.[/quote]

The OP (as well as the majority of GC PNMs) use code names to hide the identity of the houses.

My recruitment

Thanks for everyone who left kind words for me. Recruitment went really well today. Because so many people have requested to hear my story via PM, I'm going to leave some very discrete comments.

Reese Witherspoon - The girls here were very sweet. I love their philanthropy, and everyone was very friendly. I liked them.

Jennifer Anniston - The girls here were very fun. I really liked the way they have participated in many activities on campus, and I really got along well with one girl I talked to. I loved them.

Natalie Portman - The girls here were so excited. I was so excited to hear their cheers, and I thought they were all so cute. I loved them.

Mischa Barton - The girls here were so friendly. I like how each girl was really unique, I also had a lot in common with one girl I chatted with. I loved them.

Rachel McAdams - The girls here were very put together. I really liked how much spirit they had, and how organized they were. I liked them.

Scarlett Johansson - The girls here were very outgoing. I really liked how everyone I talked to seemed excited to see me, and I loved their outfits. I loved them.

Sarah Jessica Parker - The girls here were very smart. I talked to a pre-med major and a pre-law major. They all were very well-spoken. I liked them.

Beyonce- The girls here were very enthusiastic about their sorority. I liked how close the girls seemed, and the conversation topics were interesting. I liked them.

Gwenyth Paltrow - The girls here were really spirited. I talked to a former cheerleader, and their excitement was so contagious. I loved them.

Cameron Diaz - The girls here were really funny. I loved how the sisters cracked jokes with eachother, and I was laughing almost the entire time. I liked them.

Kate Hudson - The girls here were so down-to-earth. I really liked how proud they seemed of their sorority heritage, and everyone was very sweet. I liked them.

I'm sorry I can't offer you more. But I figured something is better than nothing. I'm exhausted, and I'll let everyone know where I go back. If you PM me about a specific sorority/actress name I can give you some more details. Hope everyone had a great day.

Love,

Cali girl

Buttonz 09-26-2006 11:25 PM

Glad you had a good day, now get some rest!

why wear white

This is from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_d...fter_Labor_Day

"An old custom prohibits the wearing of white after Labor Day. The custom is rooted in nothing more than popular fashion etiquette.[1] In actuality, the etiquette originally stated that white shoes were the taboo while white or "winter white" clothes were acceptable.[2] This custom is fading from popularity as it continues to be questioned and challenged, particularly by leaders in the fashion world. "Fashion magazines are jumping on this growing trend, calling people who 'dare' to wear white after Labor Day innovative, creative, and bold. Slowly but surely, white is beginning to break free from its box, and is becoming acceptable to wear whenever one pleases. This etiquette is also compared to the Canadian fashion rule of not wearing green after Rememberance day. "[3]"

This article cites another web article which I think sums up the rule perfectly:
"We can only surmise that the point of this rule is to ensure that people only wear summer fashions during the actual summer months. The opposite probably applies as well, but people generally don't need to be reminded to avoid wearing a goose-down parka in 100-degree weather."

I know a lot of people in the fashion industry and white is perfectly acceptable to wear right now. Should you wear white linen pants when it's 60 degrees? I would vote no. A high fashion mod white dress, I vote YES! :)

adpiucf 09-27-2006 12:43 PM

Unless you are attending UCLA Presents and you're a new member... in which case, yes, you wear white after Labor Day! ;)

I agree...I have a gorgeous white coat that is ONLY appropriate for winter. It seems to be more about the material than the color. Just as white linen would be odd in winter, a white wool sweater would be odd in summer.

No white is supposed to only apply from the waist down - and wouldn't include sweaters & coats. I've also heard that many people exclude white tennis shoes as well.

/I was trying not to hijack this thread, but it doesn't look like the OP is coming back anyway...

I was thinking that as I was typing...but I think she was scared off. Hopefully she's having a good rush and we'll hear where she ends up.

SigKapSweetie 09-27-2006 12:58 PM

I'm guessing it's much less strict in California than in the South. Here, it's pretty much winter white or no white at all. And I agree with the above - no white below the waist!!!

KDLady06 09-27-2006 01:02 PM

Why do you think she's not coming back? She posted an update last night saying she would tell us today where she went to for day 2.

adpiucf 09-27-2006 01:04 PM

You took the words right out of my mouth! She's likely getting ready for recruitment events and parties right now, or in classes.

AlphaFrog 09-27-2006 01:07 PM

LOVE the skirt - HATE the blouse.

ETA: I'm not really sure about it being a fall outfit though...being sleeveless and all.

Not a fan at all. Generally I don't mind Derek Lam at all, but that outfit annoys me to no end. Personally, I am a huge fan of Michael Kors. Huge fan.

BamaDad DZ 09-27-2006 01:59 PM

I went down for a Bama football game two weeks ago. My DZ daughter asked what I was wearing from the hotel and urged me not to wear white safari shorts or I risked embarassing her when we traveled over to the DZ sorority house. Needless to say, I wore my khaki safari shorts so my poor daughter would not risk a humbling experience. She told me she would still love me either way. Apparently the white autumn curfew is real big in Alabama.

KDLady06 09-27-2006 03:04 PM

Sorry your thread got hijacked Cali girl. We would still love to hear about how your day went when you get back tonight.

I think that's awesome. I've learned to love my parents' (sometimes awkward) fashion choices.

I agree. I feel bad we got into the clothing discussion... :)

REE1993 09-27-2006 05:33 PM

I am scratching my head. I though that girls rushing NPC soroorities wore white dresses on induction/pinning night, the night they become pledges. I have seen this in person.

Is that no longer tradition?

Each NPC sorority has their own policies regarding attire for their New Member ceremonies. Not all of us wear white.

And they're not technically "rushing" once they get to Bid Day/Night.

OMG that is HOT. I love it -- but then, I think "rules" like no white after Labor Day are made to be broken.

And, um, yay recruitment!

honeychile 09-29-2006 12:00 AM

I feel as if I've hijacking this away from fashion!

Pref is Friday night, and Bid Day on Saturday!

CaliGirl, I hope you haven't been scared away, and will be back to let us know how everything went - Good Luck!!

Hegemon 09-29-2006 01:18 PM

Good luck CaliGirl!!!

adpiucf 09-29-2006 01:42 PM

To my knowledge, most of the UCLA chapters wear black for their new member ceremonies, and during Presents new initiates wear white.

I hope our UCLA PNM is having a great week and enjoying meeting the chapters. Bid Day will soon be here. UCLA is on a quarter system, and many chapters COB each quarter in addition to participating in formal recruitment.

sdsuchelle 09-30-2006 07:59 PM

IT'S BID DAY! I WANNA KNOW! :D

CaliforniaGirl7 09-30-2006 10:08 PM
