Pi Kappa Alpha colonizing at U. of Minnesota
Apparently the Pikes still own a house near campus, according to the article in the October 13 '06 Minnesota Daily. That might make a successful return to the school a little easier. http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2006/10/13/69382 |

University of South Carolina
Does anyone know if the University of SC will be opening for expansion? I would love to see Phi Mu there!
|
I doubt it because Gamma Phi Beta was colonized about a year or so ago, something like that

Omega Phi Alpha just received its newest chapter, Alpha Zeta, at Kennesaw State University. I now am trying to colonize OPA at the school I just transfered to, NC State!
|
The Beta Zeta chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi at North Carolina State University was just rechartered on October 21st. My brother's chapter gets their charter this saturday, I'm excited!!!

Sidenote: Do any of you ladies know how Alpha Chi Omega did at Univ. of West Florida? or how Sigma Delta Tau did at Pace University? I believe they both had their expansions within the last 2 months. |

Sigma Chi coming back to University of Oklahoma.
For the record--In July 2005, Pres. Boren at Oklahoma University sent a letter to Sigma Chi HQ inviting the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi to return as a "recognized Student Organization" after January 17, 2006 upon completion of six state requirements. In February 2006, after completing 5 of the 6, and on the eve of commencement of the 6th, he changed his mind (after 17 presidents of the other on campus fraternities complained) and re-scheduled the chapter's return as a Student Organization for the spring of 2007 and return to the Chapter House for the fall of 2007. |
Possible NPC Expansion at U. of Southern California (USC)
The college Panhellenic is supporting a local sorority at the U. of Southern California that wants to become a chapter of an NPC group. Reportedly the local is especially interested in either Alpha Epsilon Phi or Sigma Delta Tau. The local regards those sororities as being most closely aligned with the values and emphases of the local. An article in student paper mentions the proccess that will be followed to seek affiliation with a national: http://www.dailytrojan.com/media/sto...ailytrojan.com |

ASU used to have a jewish sorority, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi...but they decided to affiliate with Alpha Epsilon Phi

My brother's chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi was finally re-chartered on Nov. 4th:
MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The Old Gal welcomed 27 new brothers into the Mystic Circle and officially re-chartered the Delta Beta Chapter at Northern Michigan University on Saturday, November 4, 2006. A day three years in the making started with the initiation of our newest brothers into the Delta Beta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. The day’s events culminated with a formal banquet of over fifty people at the Radisson in downtown Marquette later that evening. The banquet was attended by Delta Beta alumni, undergraduate Delta Beta brothers and dates, representatives from other Greek organizations, and parents. Gus Rydholm, Northern Michigan ’80 served as the emcee for the chartering banquet. The re-chartering of Delta Beta was a tremendous day for the “Old Gal” and specifically the Brothers of the Delta Beta Chapter. Through the steady stewardship of the undergraduate Brothers, alumni Brothers, Northern Michigan University and the Alpha Sigma Phi National Office, the Delta Beta Chapter has begun a new era with renewed strength. |
Sorority Expansion Opportunity at Texas Christian
Panhellenic at Texas Christian U. ("TCU") has voted (9-1) for expansion. The student paper's November 9 '06 issue has an article giving an overview of the basics of the usual NPC expansion process and some indications of a possible timeline: http://www.tcudailyskiff.com/media/s...dailyskiff.com |

The University of Maryland, College Park is considering the possibility of extension. I am on the newly formed extension exploration committee. The Panhellenic President says that the delegates will probably be able to vote on whether we will open for extension by March.

So supposedly it is a moot point! Bored so have to post something! ;) Other than some of the things I cannot talk about, My lips are sealed!:) |
For the record (because it's been buggin' me)...
Expansion: When a university or college decides to invite a new sorority or fraternity on campus. Extension: When a GLO decides to establish a chapter on a campus. |
[quote=Tom Earp;1357387]Actually there is no supposed Jewish or related GLO.
So supposedly it is a moot point! -------------------------------------- Actually, AEPhi *is* a historically, predominantly Jewish NPC sorority -- and a pretty neat, classy sorority overall too, I think. :-) (It also shares in common with AOII its origins at academically prestigious Barnard College and first extension to Sophie Newcomb College in Louisiana. Other cool fact: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an initiated member. Go AEPhi!) Panhellenically, |
So, does that mean they do not take non jewish members?

Why not when they pronounce themselves as such?
You cannot have it both ways can you? |
Just so everyone can get their balls and/or ovaries out of a knot...I in no way meant to imply that AEPhi or SDT ONLY take Jewish members. I was good-naturedly ribbing exlurker for being so overly PC. :D

I just looked at the list. Wow, TKE has 9 colonies!

Murray State University (Murray, Kentucky)
Kappa Sigma (colony)
Tau Kappa Epsilon (re-colonizing) |

This sounds like a great chance for one of these groups to colonize over there. What are the current houses there? And, for the record, SDT is also historically Jewish just like AEPhi :) My chapter was split about 50/50 though neither us or AEPhi would hold parties and stuff onFri nights or jewish holidays, and we took it as far as no pledge events or anything. |
AOII is recolonizing at Virginia Commonwealth University - Fall 2007.

Just to clarify the confusion about AEPhi.
Nationally AEPhi uses the term "Jewish sorority" not "historically Jewish sorority" though we do not consider ourselves a religious organization. Since AEPhi was founded as a result of discrimination against Jews it has never required members to be Jewish because we don't want to practice discrimination ourselves. Chapters obviously should be familiar with our Jewish background and history but chapters are not required to be a certain percentage Jewish or anything like that. We have chapters with very few or no Jewish members and that is fine with national organization. In terms of USC I would be super excited if we recolonized there. It was our Xi chapter and was our second chapter out west and our first chapter in California. |
Sigma Chi's Colony at University of Tennessee-Martin will receive their charter this January.
Sigma Pi has announced that they will be establishing a colony at Florida State this spring. This will be a re-charter. They have been off campus since 2001. |
Delta Chi was selected to colonize at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in fall 2007. KA Order and Chi Phi also presented. Expansion has not occurred since the original colonization of the campus in Fall 1998. Our campus population has nearly doubled since then, so it's about time!
|
Wow... I'm surprised with how few men a lot of these colonies are chartering with. I'm in the new Sigma Pi colony at K-State, and we won't be allowed to charter until we have 67...

As for Siggy_lxvi's "question": different GLOs and different campuses insist on a certain level of interest prior to allowing a colony to be initiated members. Whichever is the larger number is what the colony needs to proceed. |

Delt colonization report...
Expansion Update
The expansion team at Appalachian State University wrapped up its efforts when it pledged 70 new members on Saturday, Nov. 11. The men represent sophomores, juniors and seniors. An academic leader in the fraternity world, the colony continues to promote the values of Delta Tau Delta with a 3.14 composite GPA, the highest on campus. The men of the ASU began their efforts with a six-hour retreat on Sunday, Nov. 12. The retreat focused on goal setting, vision, crafting a mission statement and discussing hurdles to the colony's success. In other expansion news, the Delta colonization at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor concluded Oct. 12 when the Fraternity pledged 53 men with a composite GPA of 3.3. The Gamma Tau colonization at University of Kansas completed Sept. 28. The colony began with 41 men with a 3.14 composite GPA. Welcome new brothers, and way to go! |
