So, what else is in this season according to InStyle?

adpiucf 08-18-2006 02:23 PM

I feel like Stacy and Clinton are about to bust into this thread!

The first one looks way too 80s and I can only think of one person who would wear it- Ivana Trump.

The second one is kinda cool- except for the frumpy part on the front of the skirt. Had it had a simpler cut, it would be better.

And those pants with those shoes look like what Peg Bundy wears.

The layered clothes look like they are refugees who threw the clothes they owned on their backs and caught the first plane out of the country.

I do like to keep up with trends, but I'll tell you all right now that I am having NONE OF THESE SKINNY PANTS. Ew.

There's also a HUGE difference in what is show in high fashion and what people actually wear.

tunatartare 08-18-2006 02:32 PM

well the crazy Zabar's lady really does wear that

amycat412 08-18-2006 02:37 PM

If iN Style showed a jumper it is likely to be Chloe, Stella McCartney or even perhaps Galliano. And done ironically, cut, tailored and accessoried to look like anything BUT a jumper.

A denim jumper is always wrong.

tunatartare 08-18-2006 02:40 PM

I had a denim jumper when I was in fourth grade. It had a big sunflower pin that came with it. Oh yea, I was stylin'.

Was it acidwashed?

Not acid washed, but light denim. With clips at the shoulders. The kind that overalls have. Oh yea. You know you're jealous.

Scandia 08-18-2006 02:54 PM

No acid washed denim, PLEASE! I hated those back in the 80s (not that I had a pair- thank goodness). I still hate it. Looks tacky and cheap.

Even worse are those jeans that look like you fell in a prickly pear bush that tore them up with a bunch of thorns.

We need to start a "bad fashions of the 80s" thread. Don't remember many problematic ones from the 90s other than the grunge look.

You could just update your wardrobe to this:

why carry a purse when you've got handy pockets like that?

lol It's the "Hi I never want to be desirable or attractive or sexy again" way of dressing.

Well, that might be effective birth control. Even with all those pockets, there really isn't room for another kid.

Jen 08-18-2006 07:21 PM

I still can't get over the fact the '80s are in again.

tunatartare 08-18-2006 07:45 PM

On my way home from work I say a girl wearing a t shirt that said "my stylist told me to wear this shirt." I was so tempted to come up to her and say "your stylist should be shot."

I am laughing hysterically, and my niece (who is the first of FIVE children) is asking me why -- I don't know how to explain this to a 9 year old!!

And whomever posted the Jim Bob Duggar poster really should be shot - you owe me a clean computer screen for that one!! :D

Taualumna 08-18-2006 09:37 PM

Whatever you do DO NOT WEAR CROCS (or their rip-offs)!

To work/ church or errands? Because I own some crocs that I wear just on lazy days and I constantly get compliments on them. Since I got mine my best friend has bought a pair and my mom bought some yesterday. They are inexpensive, comfortable and have good support without being tennis shoes for running errands in. I hated them when I first saw them, but as time went on they grew on me.

tunatartare 08-18-2006 10:50 PM

So I was on the Nordstrom website looking for a cute dress, and instead, what do I see? This monstrosity.
http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955...7/_5209957.jpg
It's available in denim, black, plum, berry, ink, and willow.

I think I'm going to cry now.

My high school teachers have to buy their frocks somewhere.

And again, just because it's for sale in a store does NOT mean it is in style and you should wear it.

And if it were a pretty jumper, I would find it passable. But that seam in the middle kills it. They need to put darts instead of the seam. And perhaps lace it up as well. It would fit so much better.

JUMPERS ARE NOT OKAY AFTER AGE 5.

That seam in the middle is not the only thing that's wrong with it. That whole ensemble should have never been created.

I agree about the clog/mary jane types but what about the flip flop versions? :(

This just made me vomit.

adpiucf 08-19-2006 12:10 AM

My mother insisted on wearing that nonsense when she worked with kindergarteners in public school. She dressed much better once she got to private school.

I would say the 80's are in again as far as music and blowing coke are concerned. Dress though I find a little hard to believe.

amycat412 08-19-2006 01:08 AM

Just because Nordstroms sells it doesn't mean you have to buy it.

Just say no to Jumpers.

Jumpers with darts and lace? Are you 60? Most people over 60 wouldn't even wear that. If you want people to take you seriously, start dressing your age. Say goodbye to the jumpers and invest in a few nice pieces of clothing. You can't use being a librarian as an excuse as my biological sister is a children's librarian and dresses MUCH better.

Scandia 08-19-2006 07:32 AM

Don't worry, it's not like I wear jumpers like that to work or ANYWHERE.

I was just suggesting things that could make such a piece of clothing remotely passable. Something that would remotely suggest that the woman wearing it actually has A FIGURE.

But that thing is all function and no style. I like my clothes to have aesthetic appeal, thank you very much.
