ImaDeeGee 08-20-2006 10:29 AM

Good luck today!!

Ocalagirl 08-20-2006 10:33 AM

well no phone call yet so no news is good news and bid day starts in a hour and a half!

pinkyphimu 08-20-2006 10:53 AM

that is good news! i hope you have a great day today!

Ocalagirl 08-20-2006 11:11 AM

well i just got the dreaded phone call and I have been released from recruitment...

UGAalum94 08-20-2006 11:19 AM

Oh no!

I'm sorry to hear your news. I've been carefully following your story here and wished you the best; I know you are disappointed.

Right now, it probably seems the worst it ever will. As time goes by, it won't matter so much. If later you are still interested, you may have some COB opportunites.

Good luck!

tunatartare 08-20-2006 11:19 AM

Aw sorry hun (((hugs))). Are you going to participate in COB/COR?

BetteDavisEyes 08-20-2006 11:52 AM

I'm sorry. :( I read this entire thread & was hoping things would turn out well for you.

KSUViolet06 08-20-2006 12:59 PM

I'm sorry things didn't work out. I'm not sure if many UCF chapters have COB, but if they do, I suggest checking it out. I joined my chapter through COB in the spring and it was the best thing I ever did!

pinkyphimu 08-20-2006 01:05 PM

i am sorry that things didn't work out! good luck with whatever you choose to do!

BamaDad 08-20-2006 01:05 PM

Best of luck to you, young lady, from a very sympathetic father whose daughter is going through recruitment. UCF is a great school. I hope you succeed in all your endeavors there. We will keep our fingers crossed that you get picked up by one of the alternative methods.

adpiucf 08-20-2006 01:18 PM

I'm sorry. I promise, life does go on, but it is perfectly normal and ok to be disappointed right now. Good luck at UCF. It's a great university and I'm sure once you've cleared this roadblock you'll find where you're meant to be.

UCFalumna 08-20-2006 01:37 PM

I'm sorry that things didn't work out for you. I hope you throw yourself into the upcoming semester and get involved on campus. If you decide to pursue COB or rush again in the fall, these things will greatly help you.

We probably won't know for a week or so... I hope it's not out of line for me to make an educated guess based on the CR trends of the past few years. This year may be a little different than last year, as more PNMs came out to recruitment this year than last. Also, based on the stats from last spring's GPA placements, most of the chapters were just at or over chapter total-- it would really depend on who makes quota and who's over total (and how many seniors graduated out of a chapter last spring).

ADPi Conniebama 08-20-2006 01:56 PM

liltrixx - thank you for everything and I am sure you will see that everything is fine - I am sure your are not happy now but go to a good mexican restaruant with a great friend and pass the time away on nachos and hot sauce - I know that might not make sense now but keep yourself busy today. (of course you don't have to take my advice but)

WE ALL WISH THE BEST FOR YOU NOW and in the future.

FloridaTish 08-20-2006 02:57 PM

I'm sorry to hear that things didn;t work out for you, but if you have the opportunity to sign up for COB, please be sure to think of that option! I'm sure the Greek Life Office will have information about any sororities participating after recruitment is over.

Speechpath 08-20-2006 06:18 PM

Very sorry things did not work out for you. Hopefully perhaps COR will bring a welcome outcome.

this group I don't think I ever felt truly comfortable with. as much as I liked them, I felt like the minority since they were founded by jewish women and a lot of the women in this chapter are jewish.
Since you're not Jewish, I'm sorry you were uncomfortable with people of a different faith. I know that many sororities were founded on Christian ideals but that doesn't present problems for sisters who are of Jewish, Islamic, Hindu or Bhuddist faiths from joining and feeling 100% at home. I may be off on this but I belive that one of the founding members of AOII was Jewish and founded a great sorority alongside her Christian sisters. For that matter, the badge of my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta has Hebrew letters on it and we're not a "traditionally Jewish" sorority.

I guess to each their own...

adpiucf 08-20-2006 09:39 PM

Ditto. When I went through recruitment there were also many Jewish women in the university's Pi Phi and ZTA chapters...

I'm not trying to be snarky, I just must have misread/misunderstood your quote from a previous post. Anyway, good luck to you with the rest of school and your future endeavours...

Duchovnysfan 08-20-2006 10:34 PM

*hugs* I'm so sorry it didn't work out. I just finished reading the thread I was hoping you wouldn't get the phone call and was bummed when I scrolled down a little more. It will hurt now b/c you invested a lot of time into this process and will do so for the first few weeks. I have been there myself but know that there is something for you, whether in the form of COB, next year's recruitment if you choose or really just something else non-greek org related. In college your niche exists, you just have to find it and really look for it in order to appreciate it and enjoy it.

I really liked your thread, it was honest and heartfelt and really could witness all the emotions you were going and if anything it shows you gave yourself the chance to open up and be aware of everything around you the emotions effected by it.

Good luck in whatever you choose you will be fine.

ASUADPi 08-20-2006 10:55 PM

((((((((liltrixx)))))))))

I can't give you a hug in person, so I'll do an online hug. :D

I know you are hurting right now, but always remember when one door closes another door opens.

Enjoy school and keep your wonderful positive attitude!!!!!!

sbelle223 08-22-2006 07:04 PM

I'm so sorry that your recruitment didn't work out the way you wanted it to. From your posts, it sounds like you are an amazing and intelligent woman and I'm sure you'll be fine at UCF with or without Greek Life.

Just out of curiosity, who was your Rho Gamma? I was a RG this year at UCF too.

None of our founders was Jewish. One of our founders may have had a Jewish father (conflicting stories) but the Jewish faith is passed through the mother, and this founder was a Christian and was active in a Christian group at Barnard. There is speculation that her Jewish heritage played a role in our founding though. That has never really been confirmed. Our founders were adamant, however, that religious preference play no role in inclusion in AOII.

NoleMom 08-22-2006 08:05 PM

My very best wishes go out to you in your years ahead at UCF. So sad to read your story and how your first rush turned out for you. As the mom of a pnm, I can only imagine how you feel. I can tell you are a strong young woman. Some other way or some other opportunity must be headed your way - let us hear from you later on. Good luck!

I'm sorry that happened. You'd think they'd give you a call ALOT earlier so you don't start getting ready to leave (which you probably were). :(

yeah i already had my makeup on and was fixing to get up to do my hair and already had my clothes laid out...it'll be a while before i'm able to put that recruitment shirt on.....

WhiteDaisy128 08-22-2006 10:19 PM

Hey hun...I'm so sorry that you were released...PLEASE remember the COB/CORing chapters...

DG did not participate in formal recruitment but not because of any significantly negative reason...just some growing pains inside the chapter (growing in a REALLY positive direction). We'll need some good New Members to swoop in to help carry the chapter through a period of change. There is no chance of the chapter closing or anything (so please do not think that) -- and it'd be a good opportunity to become involved quickly. I'd suggest you check out DG (among the other COB/CORing chapters). Often, as people have said, COB is so much more relaxed and you get a little better feel for the girls and they get a better feel for you.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

It very much hurt my feelings and I finally just had to hang up because I could not take it any more. I then took some Nyquil and went back to bed. But then yesterday when I woke up I was in a good mood because it was the first day of school. The only thing that was hard was seeing the new members in the bid day shirts and new member bags walking around campus. As happy as I am for them that they found their new home, it was equally as hard not to have found mine. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do yet, but have contacted a chapter about COB with them so we will see. My main focus this week will be school and making awesome grades for the long range goal of law school.

((((((hugs)))))) from one pre-law girl to another! A huge ditto to checking out COR and DG--I was a snap bid after I didn't sign a bid card, so it happens, and since I ended up in the right place, I'm sure there's one out there for you if you decide to pursue it. I hope you're doing well, and if all else fails, you're already ahead of most other fish in the school by having gone through recruitment and met a ton of amazing women! I hope this year will be a great one for you.
