My chapter doesn't have a specific teen group. We have a debutante program, however. We have clearly warned participants against using our hand signals or doing our call when they participate in San Diego's MLK parade. Because these are teen girls, however, we have to reinforce the warnings.

How disrespectful that those girls even have a pyramid on their shirts and attempt to throw up the pyramid. I have friends who worked hard to have that right to associate with Delta Sigma Theta. I'm now motivated to be the high school wanna be greek and grown task force. That's right, all by myself. Anybody want to join, just jack a child up. Don't ask any questions, just jack 'em up.

my ex college roomate is a Delta and she had this really nice Delta duvet/blanket that was either on the foot of her bed or on the bed... when ever we used to have our girl talks in her room, and I would always request that she move the duvet so I could sit on her bed, and she would say nah girl it's cool, but it didn't sit with me, so I always sat on computer chair :)

LMAO!!!:D School started for us this week and I have a few AKA items in my classroom. Class was about to end and these girls asked me if they could start a teen chapter "fo' da AKA and Deltas and dem".
Then the images from the chicken grease lip girl and the 'bout to be beat down wanna be Delta girls ran through my head. I told them what they needed to be worried about starting was a tutoring group for eachother to practice saying "for". All they did was laugh. *sigh* And this is the future....:(

But since our hand sign, call etc. are "unofficial", the by-laws probably don't speak directly to this. That is one of those things where chapter members should use their discretion as to what IS and IS NOT appropriate. Are there any sorors who can help me out with this one?

As co-chair of my chapter's Delta Debutante program, I can tell you that we spell out in the program information folder and in the contract that Delta insignia is not to be used by program participants for any reason. Fortunately, I have been working with the program for about six years now and have never had a problem with any of the young ladies attempting to use calls or anything of the sort. On the other hand, I have had several mothers approach me with membership questions.

Make sure you get the switches that are living branches. The ones where the switch itself is green. Those hurt the worst. We used to try and pick the dead branches that would break on the first impact...UH UH:( Go get the live branches--the ones that leave the welts!

If you want to beat someone down, beat down the MEMBERS who have mentored these CHILDREN and TAUGHT and ALLOWED them to mimick our organizations.

KAY10 08-26-2006 04:03 AM

My whole family is greek with the exception of my mom and sister. So everyone knows better. If there was a sudden down pour or something though, of course I would give my mom or my sister my Nupie umbrella. Or any woman. That's what gentlemen do.

My Kanes are locked away so people don't touch. My paddle is out in the open. I always tell people they can touch it, but they have to give me three 1st, and they better not pop out of the Kut.;)

I have a friend who is a DST who I caught trying to twirl my Kane. She put it away when I caught her though. I told her she could play with my paddle though.:D 3:p

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 08-26-2006 07:30 PM

nalia...

I have to admit that I've slept in an ex's Kappa t shirt before...I would never attempt to wear one in public though...he's shown me how to cane in the past, but I believe that was kinda like "pillow talk"....his mother and 3 out of 4 sisters are Deltas so his nosey a$S use to try to get a rise out of me by trying to spit DST knowledge...that's a place I would never go with him though..."loose lips.." ya know....my daughter has one "future" shirt that she sleeps in....when she was like 3 or 4 yrs old she would say that she was a Delta like mommy and auntie _____, one of my LSs...she's 7 and I've already shut that down...now she knows to say that she HOPES to be a Delta like mommy one day....Hey just trying to avoid my baby calling home from college after catching a beatdown....she's going to have to work like mommy did to get her letters!!!;)

My sister says she saw a homeless man in the city where she lives with an AKA shirt on. That is the only thing I have heard of though. My initial question was how did it get in the trash for him to get it?

My D&G loafers need a shine. I might just steal some off her lips. That pic kills me!!! I'm not even an AKA and I find myself wanting to slap the mess out of her. I tell you I hear her chanting. 4 plus 4 is 8, 1 more's 9...

KAY10 08-28-2006 10:17 PM

I'll never forget this. When I was a neo, I saw this girl wearing a shirt with E.W. Diggs on it, and the rest of the founders were surrounding him. I asked her to go to the bathroom and take it off. She refused. I offered her the shirt off my back, which happen to be an expensive Ralph Lauren shirt, but I didn't care. I wanted that shirt off of her. She still refused. At this point I was getting mad. I asked her where she got it, and she said she got it at a greek shop at Ohio State. I went and told an older brother about her, and he came out to try to get her to take it off. She still wouldn't take it off. We told her that it's best she leaves the campus because most of the other brothers were out of town at another chapter, and they were on their way back. Some of them are just plain krazy and would have ripped it off of her. Well, that's how people end up in jail. She could have said we tried to rape her or something. To make a long story short, she ended up leaving. She later came back and the shirt was off. That was a situation where I was really ticked off but there was nothing I could do about it.
