Ya'll I have to be honest and say that since I work at a plumbing company, and you never know when you're going to have to check in material, or drop material off at a job site, I wear cheap clothes to work (unless I have a meeting to go to that day, or someone special coming into the office) so I won't get my nice ones ripped or dirty. I have boobs and butt and I'm 5'2'', but I get my cheap clothes from Walmart and I never have a problem finding things that fit perfectly.

Wait, are you seriously complaining that her sister did something constructive about the terrible dilemma of petite clothing? It sounds like you feel that Peaches-n-Cream's sister, someone who has never met you, owes you, as a petite woman, some kind of duty to buy off-the-rack petite clothing so you and other similarly situated petite women might have an easier time finding petite clothing. Is that what you're saying?

Are you also saying that other petite women are too stupid to know what's out there in terms of clothing sizes?

To all you vertically challenged folks, I think the rest of us "average" and taller folks will pitch in and buy one of these that you can all use to help solve your clothing woes:

Even still, I think it's easier for us than plus size women, because if our clothes are too big, we can always alter. If a plus woman's size is too small, she (or I really should be saying we LOL) can't add fabric to the clothing. It's easier for me to fit something too long than something too tight.

I'd rather see someone with their shirt hanging down to their knees and their pants trailing behind them then a girl lookin like a plus size pig in a baby sized blanket.

Other posters better than I have said it before. Everyone has flaws. You play the hand you're dealt and adapt accordingly. Before specialty departments, women went to tailors or knew how to sew their own clothes.

Average, petite, plus sized and tall women are just as educated as to which designers carry what sizes or which stores no longer carry them. Only 3 expensive stores stopped carrying petites. If not being able to shop at Neiman's, Saks, or Bloomies is your biggest problem then I don't know what to say.

ADPiShannan 06-01-2006 03:19 PM

That pic was horrible. I am short and dont want that lol.

Ok I look in the petite section, but they dont have clothes I like. I am only 25, I dont wear clothes my mom or grandma wears so I dont end up buying from there. My grandma is very small and shops in the petite section and when I look in there everything I see reminds me of her or I wonder if she will have the same outfit if I buy it. Ive found in some sections they sell pants with elactic waists and well I am not that old to wear that yet.

Its just hard to shop in petites. I am sorry to see it go at a lot of places, but I cant really shop there because I wont wear the older looking clothes. Not that anything is wrong with the clothes, just not my style.

I am in the part of my life where I dont want to wear a Juicy across my butt or boobs, but I dont want to wear older lady clothing either.

I agree with buying pants and getting them tailored. I have to do that no matter what though so its something I do. I see cute clothes and buy them then take all the pants home and have my grandma alter them unless I need a tailor to do something extensive.

I think everyone has problems. I wish they could come up with a way so everyone could find clothing that looked good. Its frustrating and annoying but it happens to us all and its something I dont see changing anytime soon. Guys have it so much easier and I envy that. I wish I could just look on a rack for my size and never try it on because I know it will fit. I spend hours in the dressing room trying all all trypes of clothes.

Not only do I have problems with the pants but I have the big boob problem too so I have to try on shirt to make sure they arent suctioned to me. More likely I get a Large or XL depending on where its from and it fits the boobs but is way too long to too big at the bottom...

I cant win lol...

Desingers need a way to make it so we can all find our size.

tunatartare 06-01-2006 03:24 PM

Ok so I'm a cyclops and I only have three legs and I have to say that this thread is incredibly unfair to my kind. Do you know how hard it is to find pants with three legs or a pair of glasses that only covers one eye? Designers are discriminating against me just because I was born with a horrible birth defect. I say we stop the madness, protest their actions, and get the ACLU involved!!!!!

and now back to your regularly scheduled thread

CTFFFU!!! This thread is too funny. But you're right, I'd rather see that too. You know the saying, just because they make it in our size doesn't mean we should be wearing it! LOL

I doubt my little sister is that powerful. And she would kick your butt for calling her little. ;)

ETA: Seriously, if this is the worst thing in your life or your biggest complaint, count yourself lucky.

kddani 06-01-2006 04:13 PM

You know, these sorts of things are market driven. They don't decide to cut product lines for no good reason. Maybe the wealthier women who shop in these stores (which are all more upscale than a lot of people can afford) prefer to get their things tailored. So I guess it's the short people's fault for not buying the stuff, dammit!

And skirts, because they're often designed for women with "child bearing hips," and my hips ain't birthin' no child, thanks. So OMGWTF I have it worse than everybody! Larger girls can just wear mumus! OMG! And short girls can buy skirts and pull them up to their armpits and pass them off as dresses! See?! I'm so jealous! If I wear something fitted, I look like a porn star! And if I wear something baggy, it looks like a tent! OH NOES!

Nobody is as worked up about this as you are because the rest of us realize that we ALL HAVE PROBLEMS.

CTHU @ "And skirts, because they're often designed for women with "child bearing hips," and my hips ain't birthin' no child, thanks."

I'm 5'7 with small breasts, small waist and big butt. Trust me when I tell you how much I despise shopping sometimes. Because of my waist size, I mostly have to get pants and skirts with belt loops, or else I'll be showing my goodies (my mother has the same waist issue and she's shorter than I am.) or having my skirt twist on me while I'm walking down the street. *sigh*

Is there a correlation between height and wealth? If so, is it because petite women lack the skills of average-heighted women when it comes to careers and/or marrying wealthy men? Is it because of prejudism facing those viewed as height-impaired by the dominant forces in our society? Don't these women owe a duty to each other and society as a whole to earn more money and spend it such that designers and stores take notice and supply plentiful fashion options for them? Perhaps we could implement scholarship programs to enable this to happen, or create television shows whereby petite women can compete for the chance to become a designer or marry a man with enough money to buy all the fashionable clothing they could ever desire! The hills are alive with the possibilities of petite fashion revolution!

And I think we have a winner. I am no longer a retail writer, but markets and buying patterns are key. Buyers and managers take a look at what's selling, and make decisions on adding or eliminating lines based on that.

With plus, of course, there is also aesthetic prejudice, but I will leave that alone.

The petite sections in most stores only carry up to a size 14 - if that. Anything over that, forget it.

Petite plus is not terribly common. But some of the more traditional/classic lines (Talbots, Jones New York) have plus petites. If you do follow trends, you will have issues.

There are lots of people who don't realize that petite sizes exist. I think wealthier women would rather have trendy clothes altered because higher end petite clothes generally are cut very matronly, and even baby-boomers refuse to wear them (well, my mom refuses to wear them, anyway)! Really, if more petite sizes are trendier, then people would buy. I seriously believe that they limit petite sizes/make them matronly to upset shorter women. I really hope that petite issues are some day presented like plus-sized women. Too bad I'm an awful designer. Otherwise, I would seriously create a petite line and have the world's first 5'3 supermodel.

Wow, you must think people are that stupid. Actually, you're the one who's starting to sound like you don't have much going on upstairs saying things like this. Short people don't realize petite sizes exist.... RIGHT. Really, i've never thought of you as unintelligent, but this post is changing my mind.

And yes, they purposely try to upset shorter women--- WTF? How does that make any sense? IT'S TEH CONSPIRACY!!!! Yes, they're after you. Go hide yourself in a bunker somewhere.

There are plenty of other stores with petite sizes and cute stuff. Get off your lazy behind and go find them or quit your bitching.

If people are too stupid to realize petite sizes exist (really, it's not like they hide them in a dark corner somehow) then they don't deserve to have clothes that fit.

astroAPhi 06-02-2006 07:32 AM

That sucks for me.

The problem with a petite woman buying average length pants is that the fit is still off in other places. In high school I would buy flared jeans and alter them, but the flare would be in the wrong spot... about halfway down my calf instead of at the knee. Capris also look ridiculous on me... they look like pants in the length but the legs look all wrong because they're only supposed to come somewhere between your knee and halfway down your calf.

I'll just have to hope that they keep carrying petite sizes at the places I shop.

Ummm...we have not touched on shoes!

They have shoe sizes for those who have feet the same size of pinky finger all the way up to the size my thigh....but they don't have any shoes for people who wear two sizes.

My left foot is 6 1/2 and my right foot is 7 1/2.
